I liked getting reaction alerts because it was basically a lazy way to watch a thread and know if it was active or remind me to check it out, especially if I was getting a reaction months after I left the comment.

Yes, I know there's a "watch thread" option, but, people are lazy and don't want to go the extra effort to click a button, sucks but it's true.

All that matters is what you post. You can always look at your posts and what stickers it has if that's your concern.
True, but as I said, it will be multiple step. It's not really a bad thing since it probably discourage "looking at yourself" behaviour which I feel I do it more on forums than in real life.

So to save clicking a button, they want to click a different button every time there's a reaction notif?

Does this not accomplish that?

the normal user may still feel like talking about certain subjects would give them a bad rep, or that it would be "unbecoming" of the identity they have formed in the forum to be seen writing about the subject. Thus, they form their own "sub community" with those they think they can feel free.
I don’t get the point of this. This is an autistic gossip site. If you want a community where you can feel free to express your thoughts on topics you’re passionate about, go to social media.
I think this is less of a "You" issue and more of a "If i power level about things I like too much some autistic sperg might be able to cross reference things to reveal more about my power level."

I've had that thought a few times and waffle on posting certain things about a subject, it's probably retard level autism to think that way...buuuut this is the Kiwi Farms.
This is why I do not use the off-topic boards very much, only giving very general and mundane commentary or anecdotes when I do. Don’t get me wrong, I like to lurk on them. The discussions can be very informative and fun to read. Participating in them, on the other hand? No. It’s not worth the risk.
If your niche interest is so self-identifying, talking about it in KF-adjacent whatever is not any further security.
Agreed, but that’s also why I don’t go into KF Discords and never touched the Telegram… Both of those are uninhabitable shitholes anyways, though.
how hard is it exactly to just post about your hobbies without doxing yourself?
It depends on the hobby. Even for something as broad and general as posting about your art or music hobbies, you still often have to reveal just enough information about yourself that anyone else could easily decide to use against you if they felt like it.

If I were an artfag (disclaimer: I’m not) and went to post a drawing I made in a KF thread, even one dedicated to the topic, what’s stopping someone from cross-referencing the art style or choice of software with other stuff I’ve made? How are you supposed to have in-depth hobby discussion when at any point some random could come into the thread and say “oh look this faggot left metadata on the drawing he posted, here’s his dox lol”

I like the site’s culture as is, but it also means sharing things you’re truly passionate about is just not a good idea. Lolcow discussion doesn’t have this issue.
Notifications for unread DMs are more reliable and visible than notifications for watched threads
I was going to say something like “you guys actually use the watch thread button?” but reaction alerts, which I primarily used to keep up with threads I care about, are now gone so I guess the joke’s on me. Time to start watching threads.

Would a compromise for people who want reactions be that they still get the notifications, but the overall score is still hidden? Though I question if that would deny the dopamine of reaction farmers, but who knows.

It would be very funny if site engagement plummeted because Null disabled the biggest Skinner-box driving site engagement, and all out of some intensely autistic idealism about how users should or should not engage with his site.
I loved veiled threats like this.

I am pragmatic, not idealistic, and the problem is that there are problems emerging from DM chains that would not happen if people posted in the main forum more often. I'd like to see what is going wrong that people prefer sprawling message exchanges.
