Psychonauts 2 will feature an invincibility toggle to enable "all ages, all possible needs" to enjoy the game
"It's an ongoing and important process for our industry and a challenge we need to meet."

Psychonauts 2 will feature an invincibility mode to enable more people to beat the game.

In response to a tweet from Xbox that said "beating the game on the lowest difficulty is still beating the game, the studio tweeted: "If you beat Psychonauts 2 with the invincibility toggle on, you still beat P2."

"All people should be able to enjoy games," a later tweet insisted (thanks, TheGamer). "All ages, all possible needs. It's an ongoing and important process for our industry and a challenge we need to me[e]t.

"End of the day? We want you to have fun, to laugh, to experience a story that affects you. On whatever terms you want."

Another tweet teased: "'Uh, excuse me I beat Sword Guy Serious Time on a no hit hard mode and if [you] didn't do that I don't respect you. and like, can you even comment on things if you're not diamond six rank in shooty mcBlam? I don't think so'. Cool bud. you're soooo cool!"

As you might well expect, the tweet has prompted the usual mix of terrible and terrific responses from fans, although which is which will depend upon your viewpoint, I guess.

Psychonauts 2 is scheduled to released on 25th August. The third-person platformer has seen a series of delays, with developer Double Fine previously explaining that it needed more time to bring it up to standard, and that the studio needed time to adjust to its acquisition by Microsoft.

When the game does land later this year, you can expect to find it on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one, and has reportedly been developed with "no crunch".

We already have that. It's called a fucking movie.

And they already said invincibility mode won't disable any trophies or achievements so what's the fucking point of them?

It's annoying we swung from one extreme to the other on this. In the eighties it was normal to not complete the vast majority of games because they were too hard and some were essentially impossible without cheat codes or game genies. Nowadays we have games where you just press the x button every ten minutes to complete it. Why can't we just settle on challenging but fair?

Hold up, wait a minute. The cheats aren't disabling trophies? I know that I haven't done compliance work for Sony in years, but that goes completely against compliance. Sony would throw a shit fit if a trophy unlocked under incorrect circumstances, let alone if cheats were used.

It's not incorrect circumstances, they just don't have any difficulty related trophies.

If you have Kill X and you do it with no death mode enabled it's the same if you do it on hard or easy since you just need to Kill X, it doesn't say how. Celeste did their trophies the same way. Their invincibility mode isn't a cheat, but a difficulty below easy. They're calling it a cheat for marketing.

It’s clearly not being treated as a “cheat” but as a game mode.

No, but during my time Sony was anal retentive about everything, and they definitely did not like cheats.
Except it's not, it's a toggled difficulty you access through the menu. They're literally making it sound more impressive than it is because the retards who buy DoubleFine games are the same people who buy VNs and find normal games too hard.

It right away mentions story, so you know the gameplay is taking a backseat.

Because 99.9% of gamers fall into one of two categories: unemployable super spergs who will mindlessly grind any game for hundreds of hours until they beat it, and normie faggots who need to be reminded not to hold the controller upside down when playing. Anything in between "mind-numbingly hard" and "press x to win" would fail to find an audience.

Meh. Why does anyone fucking care what difficulty options are in a game or not? It sounds lazy as fuck but besides that meh.

This some some autistic Mike Matei shit to actually care about. Especially for a Double Fine game of all things.
While I wont sit here and go into an autistic rage that a game has multiple difficulty options and someone played it on easiest, but I will call people retarded for playing a game on a "difficulty" mode that is basically press X to for cutscene.

You know what? Good for them. If the game studio wants to provide an ultra-easy mode for people who are bad at video games without taking away other difficulty levels in the process, go for it.
