r/antiwork - Yes, it's exactly what it sounds like.

How will society function without jobs?

They think they're too good for it. I think it's especially a problem with people who never had a shitty job when they were young. They're in their 20s and embarrassed to start out at the bottom, but they need to start somewhere.
Faggots, the lot of them. Once, when I was 25 and between jobs, I took a daily newspaper route to stretch out my savings a little more. It kept me in beans for a few extra weeks, but I also got some exercise and met a few nice people while I was at it. I'd never pretend it was anything other than drudgework, but it was better than nothing.

In what world is it worth anyone's time to unionize a Starbucks store? I get that it makes conditions better for the next generation of workers, but it seems so strange to me. I am not against it at all, and most baristas should probably be paid more for what they do. I just can't understand why you'd want to take the time to educate, organize, strike, ect rather than taking some night classes at your local community college or whatever. Maybe I'm just selfish.

Do they not see working there as just a stopgap to something better? Is this their chosen career path? We need to start telling kids its ok to be a plumber again.

I do think unions are *mostly* good - they did give us the "weekend" after all. I do not care what happens to Starbucks - in my opinion the real estate they own is probably orders of magnitude more valuable than their burnt product.

Maybe to stick it to the owner and corporation because you're pissed, I guess?

Continuing my research into the antiwork moderators, because I still want to know what's going on with their mod list. I know they've since purged a lot of these account, but they are still worth looking at to determine socks, bots, etc:

Here's another r/antiwork moderator account that's interesting. 7 years old, little karma for that long of a Reddit presence, stopped posting after the antiwork drama and only recently resumed posting:

xowx
xowx
1,937 post karma
8,370 comment karma
redditor for 7 years

Very active in /r/just_post which is exactly the kind of sub you'd expect a sockpuppet account to post in if they wanted to gather an amount of karma quickly to make it seem legit. Also active in r/autism and r/nonbinary, which is the kind of sub you'd want a sockpuppet to post to make it look legit amongst the SJW crowd that celebrates mental illness.

And here is yes another account that stopped posting altogether 2 months ago:

Anarkissedddd
5,774 post karma
83 comment karma
redditor for 6 months

Though this one moderates 4 others subs so perhaps they really are trying to moderate:

r/antiwork
r/lostgeneration
r/antifastonetoss
r/Antiwork_UK

So apparently there is a British antiwork subreddit https://old.reddit.com/r/Antiwork_UK/ with nowhere near the users of the large one?
Why didn't everyone just move to this one instead?

One of the last posts in the British antiwork sub was by tobotic (who apparently is British?) and was a months ago. Almost no activity on the sub since.

Here's an account that is almost definitely a sockpuppet:

1 post karma
138 comment karma
redditor for 1 year

One comment from two months ago, barely any karma despite being a 2 year-old account... and yet they were made into a moderator?
Also, notice how it no longer mentions being an /r/antiwork moderator. It was used for its purpose and then went right back to being dormant.

Of all the acounts I've seen so far, this is most likely someone's sockpuppet.

Also a moderator of:
r/politics
r/cats
r/antiwork
r/PartyParrot
r/inthenews
r/MajorBiden
r/catsinsuits

If I'm not mistaken, the cat ones in this list are Merari01 moderated subs. Which means Merari01 brought even more people than just Bimbo along to /r/antiwork. This invidual also mods r/PartyParrot which as others have pointed out is a huge r/AHS hub.

Mostly posts in r/politics and skincare subreddits. Claims to have a 14 year old daughter:

My daughter is also 14 and she uses it. It was recommended by her pediatrician. Have her start slow to make sure her skin tolerates it. And put it on after a moisturizer to reduce the risk of side effects.

I don't see any involvement whatsoever on their part in r/antiwork, so here you have another account with no familiarity with the subreddit that was just-oh-so made into a moderator, were it not for the suggestion that this is a Merari01/AHS associate.

Another British moderator mostly active in r/AskUK and r/manchester

I found for a long time that I had plenty of money, but nothing I wanted to buy, so it just went into savings.

Eventually I was just like... Why am I working a 45 hour week?

So now I do 10 hours, and the savings just go up a lot more slowly.

The only thing I really desired was more time.

I didn't lose my virginity til I was 23. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thankfully I live in Manchester city centre, so everything I use is within a 3-4 mile walk.

I've been managing a private healthcare firm, but I'm going back to doing audio work. I'll likely make a lot less money (especially at first), but enough for the lifestyle I want.

I'm in my 30s myself

Yeah, I live alone

Not the most popular guys, these r/antiwork moderators.

Someone posted a comment to thank him for not being as entitled as the other mods (which was inevitably removed for being off-topic), and he posted an extensive response:

Hey, I figured I'd post in here just to give a wave and say thanks for bearing with, but also to just clarify / answer points raised in the comments.

First thing to clarify is that I'm not a personal friend of any of the other mods or ex-mods. To be honest, I'm actually really bad at keeping up with the mod chat, because for some reason I don't get notifications for DMs on here. I guess being out of the loop there can be both a good and bad thing.

In terms of what the sub "is" and who does or doesn't belong here - I can appreciate that the sub was formed with the idea of abolishing work altogether, and from my point of view (as a minimalist / off grid / simple living type), I'd quite happily see it all come crashing down, and get back to basics and away from this materialistic society that capitalism has brought us, where we are constantly told we're not good enough and we don't have enough.

However, I'm not as well-versed in the politics of the antiwork movement or left-wing ideologies as some of the other mods. I just believe in equality and being nice to people. So whilst I don't think improved working conditions is necessarily a satisfactory end-point, I do think it's a starting point and an achievable and realistic aim. I don't think we are ever likely to see an instant switch from the current system to the abolition of work entirely, and I think that if we can't work together to get from point A to point B, we can't expect to ever get to point C and we'll just end up arguing amongst ourselves. Once people have got to point B, they may well become believers in point C.

In terms of it being an ego post - Yeah, I guess to some extent. Whilst I have no desire to be a leader and I don't really mind who the mods are (as long as they're decent), it definitely wasn't a completely selfless post on my part. It wasn't my primary aim, but I definitely felt like I wanted to distance myself from things and try to connect in some personal way - despite being an anonymous internet user. I guess we all want to feel validated in some way, and I put my hands up to that.

Role model? Mod on the sub and not willing to do an interview. Either nut up or stfu. Everyone wants to be a part of the movement but won't take the risk, rather sit behind their screen and pretend to make a difference. Doreen is a fucking idiot and that was beyond embarrassing but at least the asshole tried.

As far as this goes... I didn't sign up to be a leader or a spokesman for the sub, just to try and keep it tidy and support people. Generally there were people who were very keen to do the interviews and be the public face (rightly or wrongly). I could go on TV and talk about my own experience and my simple living approach to it, but I don't think that's representative of the subreddit as a whole, and equally there are a lot of people messaging to say that they don't want us to represent them in any public way.

I think there's a sticky post up from one of the new guys who seems more well-versed in all the reddit moderation stuff than me, so hopefully they can help to "clean house" and restore faith in the subreddit. If that means removing all the other mods (including myself) then I'm absolutely ok with that.

He is the only one who sounds like a somewhat normal person.
I don't see why he's so drawn to r/antiwork though.

My local supermarket employs autists and retards to bag groceries, giving them gainful employment, income, and a reason to get up in the morning. It's a social service I'm glad they're willing to provide.
I'd be more supportive of this if I didn't know that labor laws don't apply to retarded people. Including minimum wage.

Technically it's a good thing since they'd lose disability if they made too much, including losing Medicaid, but it definitely feels weird to know the retard washing the windows at the grocery store is probably making like thirty cents an hour.

Honestly, I'd just be content to make sure the mentally disabled are doing something remotely productive instead of being parasites latching onto the tugboat like Chris did.

The funny thing is, what makes Starbucks a job these people want to stay at, is exactly why it is kind of a bizarre job to unionize.

  • Great healthcare. There’s a reason so many troons work there.
  • Awesome retirement benefits - high 401k match.
  • Generous education benefits, including free courses/degrees at a major state university.
  • Management track accessible and transparent.
  • For the most part, doesn’t dick over employees who legitimately want full time employment with some kind of 31.5 hour bullshit.
  • They overhire - the work pace is much friendlier than comparable businesses.

TL;DR: They’re poisoning the well with the one company their unqualified asses should be thankful exists.

In a sane society this person would be on a federal no fly list or in a mental hospital.
I scrolled through his Reddit account last night, and he’s a white guy from Buffalo, NY who posts in r/Whitepeopletwitter. So in reality he’s just the most sane New Yorker.

He’s got his license plate in the background of one photo if anyone wants to run it
