I bought and read a book on Sablin and his portrayal in TNO is retarded.
Sablin was a leninist who tried to mutiny against Brezhnev because he wasn't socialist enough, but was still very much a product of the Socialist System and not a heckin chungus libsoc. Whenever Sablin did try to show benevolence, it bit him in the ass, which is how his mutiny failed. Some guy pretended to be a sympathizer so Sablin let him run around the ship free, and he immediately radio'd Moscow to inform them of the mutiny.
I'm not saying the devs should make Sablin evil nazi commie "grr i hate freedom" either, but they should depict him as the complex character he was. Right now, Sablin seems like they just wanted a heckin wholesome leninist and picked some random schmuck for it.
As a sidenote, I know the devs have read the book I have, as Sablin's portrait is from it. They're just ignoring who he was because "Benevolent Leninism" sounds based to their Vaush-addled minds.
