racing games - no not racist games you fucking ni

In the Crew 2 showcase, Fergus himself just confirmed Offline Mode for The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest
Also, the base game is literally 1$ rn on Steam, Epic, Xbox, & PlayStation until 23rd of September. There's a high chance they might straight-up delist it from everywhere.

Man, that Star Wars Outlaws flop really shook them up huh.

Ubisoft also got massive heat from how they handled The Crew 1's shutdown, and with the Stop Killing Games movement being a thing, are trying to re-mend trust with players by doing this. Whether or not this makes any difference, is yet to be seen, of course. And The Crew series will also finally have in-car mirrors, meaning that TDUSC has now taken the Top Spot for the Worst In-Car Mirrors in a Racing Game category.

FM2023 Update 12 is also out:

So, deal or not deal with the crew 2?
Offline mode seems interesting for me.
It's a dollar. It doesn't hurt to try it. Like The Crew 1, you could drive (and fly, and boat) around the continental United States. I bought it for my backlog.
The mess that is TDUSC continues to amaze, for the wrong reasons, as AI drivers sometimes steer to the right at the start of a race:
A racing game about luxury runs like cheap mobile crap. Ironic.

A racing game about luxury runs like cheap mobile crap. Ironic.

The irony about that statement, is that a mobile crap ported to PC game in CarX Street runs better than TDUSC, even if has stupid mobile mechanics such as tire/fuel management. And TDUSC is severely lacking in the luxury and lifestyle aspects of past TDU games, to go all-in on the racing part.

A Hong Kong resident posted this video, comparing Hong Kong Island in TDUSC, to the real location:

The summary of the video is that although some parts of the map match very well to their respective real-life locations, some parts of it don't, either due to lack of developer time (although it leaves to ask what they were doing in the 6 or so years of development), or trying to avoid copyright issues with certain locations.

The Steam Player count, while it's still not Concord-levels of shit, only peaked at around 5k players on its release day today, which is about 1k more than the pre-release peak player count:

And yes, the servers are still having issues, and it makes Nacon posting this "Accolades" Trailer even more insulting, since it only contains HEAVILY cherry-picked quotes from reviews:

One example praise quote in that Trailer is this:

And the actual quote is here, and the game only got a 6/10 from this reviewer:

The game's critic reviews aren't looking good on Metacritic either:

Nacon posted another statement regarding the server issues, but they still haven't said what will be the compensation for the Server Issues that Gold Edition players had.

The first update will contain 300 bug fixes, but it again asks why they weren't able to do that during the 6 years of development? And the fact that they clearly can't take criticism, as was mentioned in the KuruHS review (at 25:35) where they dropped him from promoting the game, because of said criticism that they just don't want to take to heart and fix, is still evident in the wording of this statement.

Anyone here ever have a fondness for the old Nascar games? I distinctly remember as a kid playing through Nascar 2007 and hearing that Diary of Jane music as I was on the main menu. I wanna try some of the older ones but I'd really like it if it was more polished and had more of a 'career' for me to sink my teeth into, like the older F1 games with their career modes. It'd be nice if any of the Kiwis here have some suggestions on any games that hit that same stride (new or old, though preferably something I can emulate)
I know this post is nearly a year old but the 00's EA titles were very good, I also enjoyed the Eutechnyx era of games (2011, Inside Line, and '14 especially) even though a lot of fans seemed to not like them as much
I'm hoping next year's game will be good because as it is the greatest NASCAR console game is now 21 years old (Thunder 2004)

After today's server maintenance for TDUSC, Nacon announced that the start date of the Solar Pass will be pushed back to October 2:

It's not as if the "major patch" is going to fix enough of the game so that people recommend it.

Someone made a Spec II mod for GT4:

Also, TDUSC currently doesn't have an anti-cheat system, so players are using hacks to freeze the AI opponents in races, since they're so fast when they're fast, that they're seconds ahead of actual players on the leaderboards, and because the game doesn't have a difficulty slider for the AI:

And a mod on the r/TDU3 subreddit is REALLY butthurt about the negative reception to TDUSC, that he lashed out in this statement:

Is the PXN V900 a good racing wheel? I lost the pedals and gear shifter for my old Logitech G25 years ago and don't feel like shelling out $500 for a replacement.

Nacon posted this Dev Diary, talking about TDUSC's launch and the next steps for the game:

The lowlights of the video include:
  • Saying that TDUSC's launch wasn't awful, because TDU2 had a worse launch, and because only "some" people had connection issues. The fact that the guy on the left also worked on TDU1 and 2 doesn't help either.
  • The devs said that the beta had slightly less issues than the launch, and the connection issues were because the devs didn't "expect" this many players.
  • The 300 bug fix patch is taking long to arrive (if it ever even arrives), is because they need "approval" for consoles. It will also release along with Season 1 of the Solar Pass.
  • They will release a later patch to specifically fix performance issues on PS5, again the release date being TBD.
  • They said that they're only considering adding an offline mode at the end of the game's life.
  • They're still emphasizing the MMO and racing parts of the game, even though TDU was known more for the lifestyle aspects.
  • They said that the game was region-locked to ensure "performance" and "integrity". They also will consider cross-play, but again it's TBD if they implement it.
  • They confirmed that the AI difficulty is determined by an internal ranking system, so as you win races, the difficulty goes up. They also didn't say thing about adding a difficulty slider, so that's unlikely to be added to the game either.
  • The Expert difficulty AI drives in ways that would be physically impossible to do IRL, i.e. Bugattis taking corners at impossible speeds, and the 2CV passing Audis because it has "upgrades". They did say that they may tone down the said godlike AI driving behavior, but again made no mention about adding a difficulty slider.
  • They said that they may nerf or buff cars that become "meta".
  • They still didn't say what will be the Compensations for Gold Edition players for the launch issues.
  • They still insist that they will not create another TDU2, so the lifestyle aspects (Casino aside, assuming the game even survives to get a Season 4) are unlikely to be re-added.
So the devs are still being stubborn and sticking to their "vision" of the game, even though TDUSC is more "Generic Racing Game" than a TDU game.

They can go fuck themselves then. I tried it during the testing period and wasn't too impressed, and seeing this makes me even less likely to pick it up. Me and my guys put a lot of hours on TDU2 cruising and spending time dicking around with the social elements. The way the driving feels is just okay, but the atmosphere of the game was peak. Even though some of the racing events ranged from just okay to outright annoying, I'll never forget blackjack and cruising the countryside with the boys in the 370z.

Maybe I'm the odd one out, but I actually enjoy social features in racing games. Community is a big part of car culture and I haven't really found anything since TDU2 to scratch that itch. I enjoy the actual driving in Forza Horizon 5, but outside of occasionally watching someone eat shit into a wall or small casual roll-races, there isn't much player interaction outside of the designated modes. I wish they had kept the car meet feature from Horizon 4 where you could park with other players and invite them to races or convoys.

Man, why couldn’t they have just made Test Drive: Eve of Destruction 2? I know Wreckfest already fills that niche of demolition derby racers but it lacks all the zany shit EoD had. I miss jamming out to Rob Zombie, Sum 41 and Hoobastank and getting mid-air collisions in figure-8 jump races or doing Chicken Battles with my buddies in a school bus and the soccer mode or doing insane races like trailer or chain races. It just isn’t the same *sigh*
