racing games - no not racist games you fucking ni

The patch for TDUSC is out now, and while it appears to be 50/50 at :optimistic: in terms of what was actually fixed, Nacon also raised the prices on some cars, while lowering the payouts on some races. Did they not realize how hard Polyphony Digital got shit on when they did that exact thing in GT7? But since this is Nacon that we're talking about, expect them to shrug off the complaints about INFLATION IN A RACING GAME.

Assetto Corsa EVO will be entering Early Access on January 16, next year:

And here are the cars that were increased in price in TDUSC's major patch:

The fact that a "Special" Audi R8 costs more than a Bugatti Veyron is completely mind-boggling, as if KT is making these changes on purpose so that the game tanks and then shutdown, and probably won't refund players if it shuts down, like how Concord and The Day Before gave out refunds.

Gran Turismo 7's October update goes live shortly, featuring YET ANOTHER R35, YET ANOTHER LANCER EVO, and a Toyota van, in typical GT fashion:

Season 1 of TDUSC is now live, and the Solar Pass is one of the lowest effort that I've ever seen.

1727937225103.jpeg

It's only 25 levels (but they did say that Season 3's one will have 50 levels, and have both Free and Paid versions), and contains mostly stickers, a paint job, rims, emotes, clothing, and only ONE CAR, the Audi RS e-Tron GT.

The ranked season is also live, and players that reach the Solar Court rank will get a car, the 2021 Pininfarina Battista. Other players can purchase it for credits in the next season, so it is not completely exclusive. The bigger issue, is that with the game being both region and platform-locked, many players CAN'T EVEN FIND RANKED MATCHES TO PLAY. But then again, aside from exclusively competitive racing games such as Gran Turismo and Sim Racing, most players usually don't care about ranked ladders in racing games.

Someone made a Spec II mod for GT4:

I finally got around to giving this a shot, and it's outstanding. A few big improvements I noticed right out the gate:

  • Trigger pressure deadzones actually work now so you aren't getting 90% of your braking and acceleration in the first 10% of your trigger range. This alone has made this feel like a whole new experience to me.
  • Races pay out a more reasonable amount so you don't have to grind for pennies.
  • Event Synthesizer from GT3 has been added, which generates a race based on a difficulty slider focused around the car you're currently in. Really nice for car classes that don't come up much in events, and having a random track is a nice addition.
  • A lot of cars got improved engine, tire, and transmission sounds.
  • You can now use whatever rims you want instead of being limited to your vehicle's manufacturer.
  • A toggleable prize car randomizer has been added to get new random cars for series completions. This can be turned off to get cars that are still improved over the base game rewards.
  • A rearview mirror panel has been added for bumper, hood, and front camera angles.
  • Cockpit view has been added, but the textures can be a little rough on some cars, and cars with tint are a bit of a pain in the ass. Still, it's a cool quality of life addition for a 20 year old PS2 game.
  • All road cars start with road tires now instead of standard compound, and all rally vehicles start with mud/snow tires.
  • You can now repaint a car for a small amount of credits.
For a mod of a game this age on the PS2, there's a lot of quality work here.

Nacon is so slow to communicate about TDUSC, that it took them 5 days to post an announcement about not being able to see the Solar Pass and Live Events:

Motorsport Games has put themselves up for sale, presumably due to financial troubles. They were best known for making the disastrous NASCAR 21: Ignition, which was THIS awful on launch, and the many patches still didn't fix the game:

Ignition being that massive disaster also made them lose the NASCAR license, and iRacing now has the NASCAR license and is working on a new NASCAR game.

Motorsport Games also snatched the WEC license to make LeMans Ultimate, an Early Access game based on the rFactor2 engine that they sold DLCs and a subscription for, as well as their cancelled IndyCar and BTCC games. (I think)

And Nacon's incompetence continues, as the server maintenance to fix the Solar Pass and Weekly Events not appearing bug was postponed because they couldn't even get that fix done right without breaking something else, but it appears to be set to roll out today then:

The Weekly event for TDUSC includes the lowest of effort reward in stickers:

Have they hired the devs from The Division 2?! lmao

GT7's November update will feature 5 new cars, Rotiform wheels, and 2 more tracks will be compatible with Sophy AI.

The update is 32 GB in size, and apparently a pre-load is available for this patch. PD didn't confirm if this includes PS5 Pro support though.

NFS Unbound is currently on sale on the EA App for only $5:

Volume 9 for Unbound was also revealed, which adds the Lockdown game mode, and adds a motorbike to the game as an NFS first.

And TDUSC's Thanksgiving event gives you a sweater. A SWEATER.

Nacon announced that Season 2 of TDUSC, which includes the town of Ibiza, will be going live on December 11:

1732329964956.jpeg

And note that this is only the TOWN of Ibiza, and not the whole island, meaning that it will likely to be smaller than Maui island in The Crew Motorfest, and is a seperate map/area, compared to how Maui is connected to Oahu with a bridge, and you can also fly your plane/drive your boat between the two islands.

The latest GT7 patch does include PS5 Pro support, but it appears that PSSR is buggy right now, since it muddles the textures and makes the game look like a lower resolution.

MXGP 24 will also be releasing on Thanksgiving Day, but since KT Racing is working on the game, and the footage shown looks rough, it's probably going to be another fail like TDUSC:

How Forza Horizon "evolved" from its humble beginnings as a car festival racing game to a bloated live service open world racing game shows how corporate and sanitized racing games turned into.
RIP to both Forza and Gran Turismo as great racing game franchises. Time to go back to playing Wipeout 2048.

It's alright, I still have a vast backlog of older racing games to try out, along with the ones I still like playing every now and again that I can return to.

I feel that there's no need to seek out the truly perfect racing game as I believe a few were already made and if you still weren't playing those, what were you doing? Now I'll be returning to my game of Tokyo Xtreme Racer.

Forza Horizon 3 was probably the last good Forza game. It's a shame that Microsoft unlisted the game.

Test Drive Unlimited was also completely ruined and destroyed with the turd that is Solar Crown.

And MXGP 24 is turning out to be just as shit as TDUSC, which is expected since KT and Nacon were in charge of making it:

Forza Horizon's progression system is compromised by its "wheelspin" system. In 4 and 5, you obtain wheelspins through leveling up in the game and completing challenges/races/events. Wheelspins have you spin a slot machine for a chance to obtain credits, cosmetics, even cars. It's entirely possible through chance to get the fastest cars, a million credits, whatever rare item exists from RNG.

It's not bad in itself; it just dilutes your overall progression of a racing game. It's generous to a fault since you'd just use the same car to progress.
