racing games - no not racist games you fucking ni

Midnight Club: Los Angeles has the best open world in any racing game to date. R* did not cut corners with representing Los Angeles as accurately as humanly possible. Its product placement makes the world feel alive without any compromises. Pizza Hut, Best Buy, even local landmarks like AT&T Center and Carney's are included.

Wish Midnight Club could come back.

This shit right here is what got me into driving games. I've asked some of my friends if they remember anything about this game and they act like I just made it up out of thin air.

This was a free-to-play driving "MMO" hosted by Ijji. The gameplay feels like a precursor to games like Forza Horizon today. A lot of the gameplay revolved around missions that play out like Driver scenarios, such as chasing down vehicles, reaching checkpoints, tailing vehicles, racing, etc. There was also a good range of content you would take in group formats, such a world bosses that would essentially be a large scale "PvE" Burnout type event.

Most of the vehicles were knockoffs of real life vehicles, though they had sponsorships with Chrysler, Dodge, Volkswagon, and a few others. You'd have an accurate model of 300S, VW beetles, Vipers, and a few others. Other cars resembled real-world counterparts to vehicles they didn't have licensing rights to, such a Lamborghinis, Porsches, and Nissans.

The social aspect was a big part of the game because naturally, this type of game drew in the tuner and car enthusiasts. The customization was deep enough that you could make any vehicle look exactly how you wanted it. Some of the best memories I have of the game are just chilling out in the social hubs and talking to people about car shit and cruising with my club members in matching colors to flex on people in the open world.

There's apparently private servers that have a small playerbase still, but I haven't checked in to it. The game has been dead for quite a while in any official capacity. Absolute shame too, truly a gem of my teen years.
  • You'll need a Discord account to bind with their registration site as your cloud save data storage. If you still wanna try it, be sure create an account with burner mail (and probably burner phone number too).
  • The game used to run on Ijji's engine, but has been upgraded to GamesCampus's engine.
  • The grind is now more reasonable and most P2W elements have been removed. RMT is prohibited.
  • Almost all game modes now have purpose both for grind and fun thanks to the rebalances applied by the community devs.

Someone leaked a photo of a dev build of the upcoming Forza Motorsport game, which features the Audi RS3 LMS:

This picture does not look assuring of the game coming out in a good state. And given how Gran Turismo 7 turned out to be a disappointment, unless T10 REALLY polishes the game up on launch, this will end up being a massive missed opportunity, given that they had 6 years to make the game, while GT7 was made in 5 years.

i just want another futuristic arcade racing game like f zero or wipeout to come out cause those were fun. imagine releasing one of those with modern graphics and gay tracing n shit

There's the Wipeout: Omega Collection which is sadly PS4 exclusive. There's also Redout & Redout 2 which are great. Then there's BallisticNG, which is pretty good too. Distance is technically part of this specific genre too.

The new Forza Motorsport game will have Blind Driving assists, which seems like an odd feature to prioritize, compared to pretty much anything else about a racing game:

F1 23 will also be releasing on June 16, and the Breaking Point Story Mode will be returning to the game:

On a side note, for those of you who own Gran Turismo 7, is there a way to view liveries created by other players, on the GT website, if you don't own the game?

F1 23 will also be releasing on June 16, and the Breaking Point Story Mode will be returning to the game:
Here's what's going to be in the new game with near certainty:
-Return of red flags
-Return/continuation of Braking Point
-A LOT of new Icons (Braking Point main characters, Nigel Mansell, Pastor Maldonado, Kamui Kobayashi, however more confusingly Jamie Chadwick?)

And the optimistic :optimistic: parts I've figured out:
-FOM car will probably finally have a proper nose solution instead of the fat fuck we had for F1 22 (going off of the Konnersport car in this trailer).
-There were absolutely no mentions of F1 Life and the supercars that were pushed to all hell in 22. However, My Team didn't get mentioned either, so it could be that they've overlooked those features in the trailer.

Classic cars will probably not make a return to any further F1 games, F1 2020 will still be the go-to game for this kind of stuff.
I don't have any expectations for this at all, F1 22's launch was a disaster, it took Codies a half-year to iron out all the launch bugs, there's no guarantee that this won't be the same.

This might be interesting, but call me a Negative Nancy and all, but I don't know if the devs will ever commit to it.

No offense, but why on Earth does a racing game of all genres need a "blind driver" assist? Don't you need to SEE to drive a vehicle?

Maybe it could be a speedrun strat.

I always liked the destruction modes in these games. Burnout did this pretty well. And I mentioned it once before but there was this old cereal box sort of game called Hot Wheels Crash that was all about earning points by destroying the environment.

This game is really cool! I wasn't sure if I imagined it until this guy made a video about it.

But yes, I remember Hot Wheels Crash the same way I remembered the first three Burnout games and also Re/Volt

I blame in on how accessibility happy PPG is with Horizon.
I still laugh at how the auto-drive bit them in the ass.

That revolt game looks neat!
Re/Volt was a game from my childhood and was, to me, my personal crack cocaine. It's surprisingly available to download for free as the original developer and publisher, Acclaim, was shut down 5 years after the game's release (the CEO Howard Marks purchased the Acclaim name after its shutdown and was revived as an entity of its own in 2006, but was acquired and shut down in 2010 by a different company). And as of 2022, it's also available on Steam. and was brought back onto GOG.com.
