I don't understand why anyone believes Chris is going to bunk up with Sockmess. For one thing, Chris doesn't like him. For another, they live on opposite sides of the country from each other, and Chris has only left Virginia a handful of times in his life. Virginia is all he knows.
Most likely scenario is Chris goes into deep denial and escapism when Barb dies. He refuses to ever handle problems like an adult, choosing instead to bury his head in the sand until it either goes away or someone else takes care of it. He will lock himself away in 14BC until the bank has had enough with nasty letters and phone calls trying to get him to pay the mortgage/reverse mortgage. They inform the local police or county sheriffs office that the property is theirs and Chris is illegally inhabiting the house. The police/sheriffs deputies come to the house and inform Chris he must leave. Chris will likely throw a massive tard fit and get himself arrested again for criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, and possibly assaulting a police officer. While Chris is in jail the bank comes in to clear out the hoard, either taking anything valuable to auction off to recoup some of the debt, or moving everything into storage that Chris will be on the hook for. When Chris finally gets released from jail he will be unable to pay back the fees on his storage unit(s) because his TardBux payments will have been frozen while he was incarcerated, so the storage company will have one of those "Storage Wars" type auctions and Chris loses all his toys and video games. No one will be willing to let Chris come live with them. Not trolls, not white knights, not Cole, not his half-siblings on Bob's side. Why would they want to invite someone into their life that is guaranteed to cause nothing but problems and stress while offering nothing positive in return? Would you invite Chris to live with you? And on the impossible chance that someone DID try to give Chris a place to live, he would find himself getting kicked out very quickly. This kind of thing happens all the time to people like Chris who have a mental disability and were never raised to be responsible for themselves, and then their elderly parents die and they have no one else to care for them.
