I wonder if Borb confused his autism with a fatal brain disorder and thought Chris wouldn't live past childhood, hence the not even trying when it came to patenting him.

I bet he bought a hard copy AND an eShop copy.revengeofphil said:You think Chris bought the new animal crossing? You know he loves that shit
"Memorable" is probably why the name stuck. We know she lost a crap ton of weight (though given her positioning when the picture was taken makes all the claims about her being huge debatable) thanks to wasting butt disease but I think Barb is still called Snorlax because she is a Snorlax...NobleGreyHorse said:Why does everyone think Barb is still fat? We certainly have that one Grandma Snorlax picture of her, but more recent ones reflect the weight loss from the colitis, as do Cyan and Indigo's reports. I'm just curious about how perception is working here -- is it just that the previous image was so strongly memorable?
Uhh, I don't know where you draw the line for fat. I mostly think about her compared to her past fatness, plus how I'd perceive her in public. I wouldn't call her fat nowadays. Actually, you'd be surprised if you saw her now.Mr. 0 said:"Memorable" is probably why the name stuck. Also isn't she technically fat at present? A fat old lady? I imagine she got the name in the first place because of how obese that picture made her look. When was it taken, anyway?

Who takes a pic of their mother sleeping while chilling with a cat?BALLZ-BROKEN said:Mr. 0 said:"Memorable" is probably why the name stuck. I think that pic was taken around the time of the house videos.
You gotta realize, in that "memorable" pic she's laying down and wearing unflattering clothing, so that'll add 20 pounds. The camera also adds another 20 pounds, especially when the backdrop is a fat cat and 20 cubic yards of thrift store pillows and afghans.

Stratochu said:I went to a local hobby store today for the first time to buy some Hex Bug toy robots (saw them online and was interested). The resemblance to THe GAMe PLACe, right down to the merchandise, was stunning, except that there was no rental party room, and the place was one part asspie child's paradise (general toy/Playmobil/Lego/Brio and educational toy areas) and the rest neckbeard paradise (model kits, RC cars, model railroad stuff, robotics supplies, role-playing games, card games, etc), with every part of the store containing numerous things that Our Pet Lolcow would enjoy. The endcap of the military model kit/diecast car aisle was a Lego Friends display.
If the local hobby store here is representative of Our Pet Lolcow Eden, imagine what the current iteration of THe GAMe PLACe would be.
edit: Totally makes sense, right down to Eugene basically being the West Coast's equivalent to Charlottesville. Very old college town with a historic attraction (in Eugene's case, several historic cemeteries), high enough concentration of autistic residents and neckbeards to support a virtual copy of THe GAMe PLACe with a music and vidya store next door and a card game/RPG specialist toy store 2 doors down, but superior as far as gastropubs, vineyards and microbreweries go) Eugene even has its own "Ruckersville", actually several of them- Springfield, Cottage Grove, Veneta, Junction City, Creswell and Oakridge.
Most likely it is mainly rich neckbeards, tugboat-wasting neckbeards and trust-fund neckbeards with a few rich yuppie parents who can afford already overpriced toys at premium prices that aren't cheap plastic Toys-R-Us/Wal-Mart grade crap, RC car/RC airplane repair, and a few weeaboos buying JRPGs and mangas there.Holdek said:Stratochu said:I went to a local hobby store today for the first time to buy some Hex Bug toy robots (saw them online and was interested). Your post makes me curious how these shops stay open amid most mom-and-pop stores closing due to big box and online competition.
This. The game store I frequent for Pokemon TCG league is right next to Drexel University, which I guarantee is (along with Temple University) a large part of what keeps them open. And then the league I go to while at school is at a game store just a few miles from my school... which has a pretty sizable game development program, so yeah. Lots of my classmates shop there for Magic, Settlers of Catan, etc. etc.... (Some of them even work there.)Stratochu said:edit: The University of Oregon is almost certainly a major reason why Eugene Toy & Hobby stays open, I'm guessing they get a lot of robotics supply things through them and almost certainly get materials for architectural models from them, their childcare facility also may contain their merchandise. The University of Virginia possibly has a similar contract with Michael Snyder.
Agreed on the students boosting sales too. Between my local store, its small but fairly extensive selection of mangas and nerd toys, and the card game/RPG store that sells graphic novels, mangas and regular comics that's 2 doors down, nerds and otaku/weebos from the University, and the two Christian schools (one faith-based university, one bible school) and the community college boosting sales for similar things to the University of Oregon.Himawari said:This. I think maybe about 20 years ago, before CCGs really boomed, there was probably a bit of lull in profitability for game and hobby stores. That's when my grandfather had to sell his hobby shops, at least.
