I agree with @TheShortWaveCerealKiller, I used naively think Chris was the one being exploited by Barb financially but after he nonchalantly used her bank account without permission that really turned that assumption on its head since that likely wasn't the first time he's done something like this.

He was still in college at that point, and was coming off of his school years so he probably retained a lot of the "basics". Do autistic people, and retarded people, do they forget things if they're not exposed to whatever? Like could they be taught say, how to multiply numbers, get proficient at it, then completely forget it if time passes long enough?

What's your motivation for following Chris's story?

I think about this a lot too. The key for me is that it isn't any one thing but a confluence of so many things simultaneously. I try to not comment every time it comes up, but it's a pet peeve of mine when people lean towards A-logging and try to claim that Chris is an extreme outlier in any of his negative traits. Even now, Chris is not even close to the most sexually deviant person in Central Virginia, the dumbest student ever at PVCC, the laziest tugboat captain, or so on. Every jail discussion draws a lot of comments acting like chimp-outs aren't a dime-a-dozen in courts.

But Chris is unique in that he has all of these things at once. He has ludicrous delusions of grandeur and also can't even draw a single comic page. He professed nearly genocidal homophobia for years and also decided to live as a woman full time. His primary influences in his life were Saturday morning cartoons and pornography, with both treated as high quality life advice. There are thousands out there stupider, lazier, more childish, more perverse, more gender confused, or less aware of others' boundaries. This has been on my mind all day so I'm going to expand on what I said previously. Not that anyone cares that much but I still just feel like ruminating about it. At least post merge for certain, Chris is also extremely interesting to follow because his antics all occur at the edges of society, testing edge cases of how we have all structured society. Really, following Chris forces you to consider surprisingly complicated and interesting questions about social life. This includes both broad questions like how should society deal with someone who is physically and intellectually capable of menial work but is just too socially inept to be anything but a liability. It also includes granular details that pique my curiosity like a looking at a trainwreck. I probably post enough on the topic that people have figured out how fascinated I am with the collision between the justice system and mental illness in Chris's case. I never would have randomly stumbled across this topic but following Chris tends to put these thing in front of you.

Also, honestly I just like you all as a group on this forum too. I stumbled upon Chris through the Geno doc because I was depressed and it was nearly endless filler content and eventually started talking about it here. This is the most engaging forum I know. I feel like it is stunningly thoughtful given the silliness of the subject matter and that you all have a lot of interesting thoughts and commentary. My personal beliefs are pretty different from the prevailing views of the forum on nearly every hot button political or cultural issue, but I'd still rather waste my time sperging about Chris with you all than waste my time on other forums. I appreciate this weird little corner of the internet.

So does that mean that the SSDI payments have just been stacking up and would be available to collect if he gets convicted with time served? The idea of Chris getting a mega tugboat if he gets convicted with time served is terrifying. If he gets out right after the conviction and gets his hands on that money, how would he even react to seeing that much since it accumulated?

Actually, a quick update, Chris' tugboat is likely sunk. I didn't notice that if you are Incompetent to Stand Trial, your tugboat is killed after 30 days. He should still have 7 months of tugboat saved up from the time he was in jail and the first month in the hospital. He can restart his tugboat when he's out of the hospital, assuming he goes back to jail for more pre-conviction time or is immediately convicted and gets released with time served, though he will probably not think to do this unless someone is helping him.

EDIT: @The American Hedgehog I think it's safe to put on the CWCki that the tugboat has sunk. I think it's pretty safe to say that Chris is almost certainly in for IST, unless he somehow severely injured himself so badly that he's been in a hospital for more than a month.
