Retribution might make people feel good, but what does it actually accomplish?
I think it’s just the only punishment that works in certain cases, like say religious extremism where for example a Muslim throws acid over the face of a wife who left him, rehabilitation is unlikely to be effective and making an example of them won’t work since they care more about their religious teachings and related culture than they do the law.
That doesn't follow. You're forgetting exemplary punishment, the purpose of which is to show other would-be criminals what awaits them should they also offend. The punishment might be the same, but the purpose of the punishment is different. in fact exemplary punishment is less likely to consider mitigating factors (or crocodile tears) because letting offenders off sets a bad example.
I dunno, that doesn’t seem to be the case and I see people getting let off easy all the time, could just be because I’m in the UK though. (Not going to respond to this any more because I don’t want to spam this thread with things unrelated to Chris but you make a lot of good points)
Honestly, putting Chris on the SOR (which he won't be with the current charge) is probably entirely unnecessary at this point. Googling his name already reveals more than enough to warn off sensible people, and anyone who doesn't google him is unlikely to check the SOR either.

He's guaranteed to fuck up again. And again. And again. The rest of his life will likely be a cycle of hospitalization, incarceration, and the streets. However, unless he has access to another feeble octogenarian to victimize, Chris is far more likely to harm himself the next time he fucks up.
True, although Chris is a bit of a wildcard in that you really don’t know what he’s capable of these days, his physical ability and willpower to carry out things that require any effort is thankfully lacking.

Being permanently sent off to some loony bin is probably the best possible ending for Chris at this point. That is what the justice system should "do with him".

To answer your original question, the pox is preferable to going anywhere near any part of Chris.

Chris converts carbon from his body into CO2 that spreads across the entire planet is absorbed by plants that you eat, or in the air you breathe. Every day you are guaranteed to consume at least a few atoms that were once part of Chris. Some of that carbon is absorbed into your body, so a part of Chris is now a part of you.

Do you guys think people tried to warn Bob and Barb they were too old to have kids? Barb was 40 when she gave birth to Chris and Bob was 54. Someone had to have brought up that Bob was going to be geriatric before Chris reached adulthood. I know Chris was unplanned and two old southerners aren't going to abort their child but someone had to have said something to them.

Chris is an aberration even by old-parent standards.

Ordinarily in a family with many kids that had a kid late in life, the youngest kid would have a support network with the older, more-established ones, so they'd be fine after the parents died.

Also ordinarily while they'd have a higher chance of being autistic or whatever, they would not be as fucked up as Chris.

This is true, though it only works to a certain degree. It works really well for white collar crimes (which is why they need to be rigorously enforced).

Hood rats treat incarceration as just a rite of passage, or a force of nature like getting struck by lightning that just happens to you, and you just try to avoid it as best you can. The idea of changing their behavior never crosses their mind.

And yeah, with tards they are just gonna tard.

I agree, I think acid in the face is kind of excessive punishment, and there could be much less brutal methods of punishing her for leaving him, and she could probably be rehabilitated.

Did Chris ever truly love his father? Bob, despite his mistakes, did appear to actually love his son (the letters he wrote him and the dreaming studio), but did Chris actually love him back? Chris crying after his death doesn’t mean all that much, it might have had more to do with the realization that Bob being gone would mean having to do chores, shop for Barb, manage his own money, etc
He probably did but had a poor way of showing it due to his selfishness and childish mindset. Think about the depressing Christmas video where he got Bob a VHS tape of Fraggle Rock and forced him to take that over the DVD because he wanted that for himself. He did love Bob enough to get him a present but his selfishness and childish mindset had him get Bob a gift you would expect a 10 year old to get for his dad, not a 22 year old man. His relationship with his Bob was probably similar to a spoiled, bratty 10 year old angry that daddy didn't get him the expensive toy he wanted for Christmas and is angry that he's being forced to take out the trash. He does love him deep down but took it for granted and didn't show him the same level of love and caring Bob showed him. He took their relationship for granted and one day it was all gone with no chance to improve, not that it would have anyway.

Does Chris like Jail? If he had markers I think he’d be content for the rest of his life.
He doesn't love it but he is more content there than a normal person would be. A normal person spending a year in jail would be faced with boredom, job loss, isolation from their friends and family, worries for the future, and maybe an epiphany on how they ended up in jail. Before he was arrested, Chris sat inside his filthy room all day mostly daydreaming about being Goddess of cartoon-land. He didn't have a job and his only real social contact was with his elderly mother/ sex doll. His plans for the future was wait for the Dimensional Merge to happen otherwise it was sit on his ass, shit himself, and do nothing.

In jail he gets to sit inside his cell alone all day spacing out in his fantasies, he gets three meals a day that are just like a TV Dinner, junk food from the commissary, and best of all no one is forcing him to do anything, he gets to sit on his ass all day just like on the outside. He doesn't like that he doesn't get toys, games, and TV in his cell but other than the lack of material comforts his life in jail is really no different than his life on the outside. He lived such a lonely, miserable, meaningless existence at 14 Branchland Ct that being in jail isn't too big of a shock to his system. He definitely wants to get out of jail and go back home to his toys but until then he's content to just sit in his jail cell wasting his life away all alone like he did as a free man.

That's a good question. Back when I was a kid that loved Livejournal drama there were some I followed on ED before Chris blew up there. I've kind of forgotten who they were though.

Yea there was quite few back then - One guy I recall was called "Dennis the Preacher" a really sheltered kid who's dad was trying to run a scam church but Dennis was a true believer and he'd get into arguments with people and cite obscure and unrelated biblical passages, he was also really involved in the "Youth" portion of his dad's scam.

He dropped off the Radar just before Chris floated to the surface, I've looked him up but nothings came to light he was either a troll (not likely) or his mum finally had enough and took him and his sister and fucked off.

May God bless you. This brightened my day, thank you.

making an example of them won’t work since they care more about their religious teachings and related culture than they do the law.

That depends on how big an example you make.

It's because people are too squeamish and generally ignorant. We here at the forums would apply a much more appropriate sentence on Chris than the public at large.

True, although Chris is a bit of a wildcard in that you really don’t know what he’s capable of these days, his physical ability and willpower to carry out things that require any effort is thankfully lacking.

But we do know what the general public is capable of. Put Chris out on the streets and he'll learn.

Every day you are guaranteed to consume at least a few atoms that were once part of Chris. Some of that carbon is absorbed into your body, so a part of Chris is now a part of you.

I prefer to think of it as liberating that carbon from being trapped inside of Chris. He didn't create the carbon. It was in something else before it was trapped in Chris to suffer. Now it's free again. If only there were a way to save it from going back. We must protect carbon from Chris.

This is true, though it only works to a certain degree.

Because it's not actually done. Our criminal justice system concentrates on rehabilitation, not setting examples.

Hood rats treat incarceration as just a rite of passage,

Incarceration is hiding them away. It is the opposite of making an example of them.

I agree, I think acid in the face is kind of excessive punishment, and there could be much less brutal methods of punishing her for leaving him, and she could probably be rehabilitated.

It's his own fault, really, for choosing the wrong woman. /sarcasm

He definitely wants to get out of jail and go back home to his toys but until then he's content to just sit in his jail cell wasting his life away all alone like he did as a free man.

Put his toys and porn in his jail cell, toss in an internet connection, and he likely wouldn't know the difference (apart from the general cleanliness of the cell). He might even prefer it since meals would be delivered and he wouldn't have to walk as far to the toilet, so his personal hygiene would improve.

Whatif Chris were stuffed in Skinner's Box?

Works how?
Not all punishment has to do with rehabilitating some criminal who often is just a completely irredeemable piece of shit anyway. People have an innate sense of justice and if they see criminals continually just getting away with it, eventually they will take matters into their own hands, and that is inimical to an ordered society.

Or from a deontological perspective, rules are meaningless unless violations of them are punished. To allow a murderer to go scot-free is an affront to the natural order. At least from that perspective.

In either event, punishing certain violent crimes harshly with lengthy terms of incarceration at the very least keeps the offender from offending again by removing his ability to do it.

Yup markers video games and legos. The only things he’s missing. I wonder where his tugboat is going atm? Towards barb, commissary, or what?

It might go to Barb if she's eligible to accept it. But if not, it's most likely suspended till he can get out.

People have an innate sense of justice and if they see criminals continually just getting away with it, eventually they will take matters into their own hands, and that is inimical to an ordered society.

But that's my point that exemplary justice functions better than retributive justice. When you make a visible, public example of a criminal it accomplishes two things (at least). It lets future would-be criminals see what's in store for them should they also offend, and it lets the public see that justice is being done.

However, making an example of Chris serves no deterrent purpose because nobody would ever want to emulate him. For most people, having sex with Barb would be the punishment, not the crime.

In either event, punishing certain violent crimes harshly with lengthy terms of incarceration at the very least keeps the offender from offending again by removing his ability to do it.

Capital punishment especially so. Ted Bundy has hardly killed anyone since 1989.

If it hasn't been suspended, it's most likely been spent by Barb. The mortgage and tax money on 14BLC has to have come from somewhere.

Yep it gets suspended after 30 days of incarceration. He will have to reapply for it once he’s out, which he has probably never done.

So I guess now that Chris isn’t spending all Barbs money on legos her social security is enough for the house and everything if she is still at 42BL.

This is untrue. Read the FAQ. While it's a bit out of date given the change in the severity of Chris' charges, most of it is still valid.

Only the fact that 14BLC has not been foreclosed makes me think it wasn't suspended 30 days after Chris went to CVRJ, because it's likely Barb has been spending it. I can all but guarantee it was suspended 30 days after Chris went to Western. They take any and every opportunity to suspend payments.

Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller fame had similarly aged parents when he was born in bumfuck Massachusetts in 1955, and he claims that even his parents were warned that they were too old, claiming “the belief was at that point you would either have a genius or a retard.”

So if the dangers were known enough for them to be alerted, I believe it’s highly likely that Bob and Barb were given a similar warning. But they also considered Chris to be a miracle, so maybe they were just so shocked Bob wasn’t shooting dust that they didn’t care.

Who were the biggest Lolcows before Chris came into the picture?
Joshua Norton declared himself “Emperor of America” in the 1800’s and the people of San Francisco just went along with it. They made toys of him, would randomly give him pocket change claiming it was a tax, and would jokingly bow to him The man was even arrested once and public outcry was so large that they released him. It could be argued that Emperor Norton was an example of what would be seen as Lowcow culture.

But if we are referring to just internet people, Eric W. Schwartz maybe have been it. He created a webcomic called Sabrina Online, which he still makes to this day, that was originally designed to be heavily pro-amiga and anti-Apple and Microsoft. It’s a furry comic drawn in very low res that looks like a a looney toons knock off. The Erica’s odd worldview and Amiga obsession was present, as was his bizarre sexualization of his underaged characters and many spergouts in the 90’s and early 2000’s. He treated Mac and windows computers like Chris treated them Hexbox, drew lots of porn of his characters, and eventually the plot got lost too. Sabrina the skunk girl graduated school and went to work in a porn studio where she was regularly harassed by her boss, a different furry character he stole from someone else.

Schwartz used his amiga well into the 2010’s before “upgrading” to a Apple G4 with a modded OS that emulates the Amiga. He’s not quite at Chris’s level, but there’s enough there to where he could be seen as the proto-Chris Chan

Did Eric have online spergouts or did he just draw the furry Amiga comics? I remember those comics and they weren't half-bad. He also did some art for video games.

But I didn't really look at his online presence or if he did dumb Chris-style shit, which is really the hallmark of a lolcow. If Chris didn't do that, then he'd just be another person with a shittily-drawn self-insert webcomic.

Emperor Norton definitely comes to mind, although I hesitate to call him a lolcow because he didn't usually rage. He had all sorts of crazy pronouncements printed in the local papers though.

As an example of what I'd consider a pure lolcow without the batshit crazy semen-eating shit, it would be someone like Wings of Redemption. He's just some crappy CoD player, but it's his online rage-fueled antics that make him a lolcow.

i could have sworn he had posted rants on forums and stuff for years, but upon searching I cannot find a single one. So either they were scrubbed from the internet, or I’m developing premature Alzheimer’s
