Containment Random Thoughts & Questions

Does Chris still think that Sonichu was an ultimately worthwhile franchise that got derailed by trolls or is he aware that his venture was doomed from the very start and most of the perceived value of his 'franchise' stems from the camp/kitsch/So Bad It's Good factor? Moreover, how has his success in commissioning Sonichu merchandise altered his views towards his magnum opus?
Chris doesn't know what a lot of these words mean.

With the hint's that Chris is moving back into the old house again a question popped into my mind;

Is the Mortgage payed off on the house or is it still being payed off? The reason I ask is Charb are not the kind of people who keep up what they see as a unnecessary expense when they can cancel it off without getting into trouble, I don't know how it works in the US but when I had a mortgage I had to have home insurance.

As much as I dislike the redundant morbidity surrounding Barb's inevitable fate, I have to ask: Did/do the Chandlers have last wills and testaments of substance? More importantly, wills that were updated to include Chris after he was born?

Bob definitely updated his Will after his second marriage. If Barb had a complicated Probate process with Bob's first wife and children from his first marriage, she'd never shut up about it and Chris would have mentioned it. Barb's Will would have been created or updated at the same time -easy money for the lawyer, and a sensible action for the client.

It's possible that Bob did not update his Will to include Chris, and Barb no longer has the presence of mind to do so. If Chris is named in the Wills, I suspect Chris is the sole beneficiary.

I bet Chris is super excited about inheriting a fire-damaged house full of junk.
You forgot the mold... He also inherits a shitton of black mold.
But I doubt he'd actually be that unhappy with this. Does he have the insight to think about his situation once he's the sole inhabitant and come to the conclusion the house sucks or will he just shrug and accept the situation he's in, spending his money on frivolities?

Really, I would love to know what he does with the house after barb is gone. If he tries to make it completely inhabitable again, getting rid of the barbage or if he just builds an elaborate shrine to borb by making the hoard an ever-growing heap of junk.

Where did this idea of Barb having a will come from? Barb only cares about herself and much like Chris really only thinks about the now. Even before she became the Hoard Matron she is now her concerns centered around getting drunk and hooking up with any guy drunk enough to give her the time of day. People like that don't really think about their future, let alone their own mortality.

He is, or more accurately, he's comfortable with it.

Bob would have, and no lawyer would let a married man leave his office without making sure he could make extra money writing the wife's will as well.

You're assuming Bob had a will (to my knowledge he didn't unless I missed something). It doesn't matter how slick the lawyer is, people like Barb either don't think about the future or believe shit can't happen to them, usually both. To her and people like her a will would be a waste of money.

So, what would happen if there was no will?
Would this mean every descendant would inherit part of the hoard by default?

I know Cole isn't going to bother driving to Ruckersville, so it will end up all with Chris and that's it, I assume.
I guess even if Barb dies with some debts, noone could touch the inheritence as the only thing worth more than moldy goodwill hoard would be the heavily damaged house containing said stinking rotten barbage...

Chris would then need to hire a lawyer and go to Virginia Circuit Court to probate Barb's estate.

The other people who have a claim a) are estranged and don't want to know about it, b) are estranged and won't find out until it's too late or c) don't want to have a legal battle with their embarrassing but otherwise harmless relative.

So if Chris gets the property, he will likely try to hold onto it, but of course he doesn't have that kind of money. As much as it pains him, his best bet is to raze the house and sell the land.

He already got a first-hand experience in how to operate a shovelmech, so he could hire one and just let loose.
Man, that's a thought to keep you warm in cold nights. Tomgirl Chris bouncing around in the cockpit of a shovelmech, frantically trying to operate the huge machinery while BC14 slowly burns down in the dampest fire ever witnessed by mankind.

I would guess he doesn't really do much of either. An extensive cleaning would be a lot of work. But he doesn't have a particular interest in hoarding, and hoarding is a lot of work too. I assume that without a nudge, the level of "clutter" would remain about the same.

Maybe someone will be able to give him the nudge to liquidate the house to pay off as much debt as possible/give him some cash, and move into a small 1 bedroom apartment. He would be just as happy with less space, his finances would be in a lot better shape, and not having to worry about maintenance would make him a lot happer. But maybe that is too much to ask.

That is assuming anyone wants a building that's badly in shape, filled to the brim with bugs (if not even worse things) and mold, in a nowhere-place in rural Virginia...
Mind you, Borb tried to sell it off 2 decades ago when it was in good shape and people didn't want it. Then again, maybe any potential buyers just didn't want to pay Barbs "500k dollars for the house plus 100k dollars so she can rebuild the shack."

But I'll admit, the article on craigslist would be hilarious.
"The house was build in 1977 and has only seen 3 inhabitants, me included. It has a nice garden with a great number of acres. It has a leaking roof, needs new plumbing and the power-sockets and electricity need a complete overhaul but it is an easy fixer upper. Call me if you're interested. 1 Million dollars, NO HAGGLE."

Filled to the brim with bugs, and is also haunted. Legend has it that phantoms and poltergeists call the house telephone wailing "Juuuuuuuulaaaay! Juuuuuulaaaaay! Woooooo!"
