I laughed so hard when I first saw it. All his other transformations were Sonic recolors, then suddenly there's this. Maybe it was his response to trolls claiming his work was unoriginal? Why he has a beard? Did his current sweetheart suggested he should grow a beard? Just why?

Because he knew that in 2013, he would look like a hobo. But he was wrong about the beard.

I think it's meant to be the tuft of fur that surrounds the mouth of Sonic characters. He was trying to adequately combine a human and an anthro hedgehog. The hedgehog already has human characteristics so the only alternative was to give hedgehog properties to Chris.

I'm guessing he was trying to replicate the way the mouths on Sonic and some of his friends look on him, and it ended up looking really stupid.
