I think its weird that this person is positioning their argument as if the only people who don't think is a big deal as they do are people with "no skin in the game". "All people who disagree with me are male" is pretty easy to prove wrong. Though the "men trying to control women's bodies" narrative has always been pretty stupid-women are anti-abortion at a similar rate to men.

The usual "reason" folks like this offer for pro-life women is that either we're ignorant ("You need to, like, learn about feminism, k hon?") or that the men who want to control our bodies also somehow control our minds. Thus, men are capable of not only having different opinions and perspectives, but formulating them; women, on the other hand, can only receive these opinions already formed, and are either enlightened by the correct one or subjugated by the wrong one. And if we are subjugated, we lie helpless in our tower, waiting for our white knight to come and free us from our prison--and if we resist, we must be forced out of our towers for our own good.

I don't understand this mindset of "author of X book I like holds X opinion I don't like, therefore I can't like their work anymore". History is full of examples of writers who held despicable opinions or were all around shitty people and yet also were incredibly talented. If we were to start discouraging people from reading novels by certain writers based on their opinions and personality instead of the quality of the work, there wouldn't be many books left to read (especially books that were written before the 20th or even 21st century).

Maybe they just found something that sounds cool.

It's a good thing to be exclusive toward things that are utterly insane. That's called "survival".

I don't understand this mindset of "author of X book I like holds X opinion I don't like, therefore I can't like their work anymore". History is full of examples of writers who held despicable opinions or were all around shitty people and yet also were incredibly talented. To some extent, there's a valid reason to do this (and I'll use first-person pronouns just for the hell of it): I'm not obligated to continue to give money to someone who hates me. If they see their wealth and the support of their fans as validation of their superiority over the hoi polloi, continuing to buy their new work is self-defeating if I want to be treated like an equal or even human. If they pass on part of their earnings to causes that actively work against my interests, it makes no sense for me to give them more.

And that's reasonable, tbh. Just because they make cute songs/videos/games/doodles, doesn't mean I'm obligated to ignore their open desire for my destruction and/or subjugation. Obviously, this doesn't apply where the work is freely available, but when money is in the mix, it changes things.

Where it becomes a problem is when I demand the person be silenced, which is where too many people go with it.

That, I can understand. What am I against is people who say that if a certain author (or musician, director, whatever) has an opinion they don't like, that means their work is automatically bad, and if you like their work, that also makes you kind of bad.
