RE: Engrish shirts

Tumblr doesn't realize you can laugh at something without making fun of someone. I doubt most people go "AHAHAH WHAT A STUPID CHINK LOLOL". No, it's just amusing. And I'm sure if I was wearing a poorly translated shirt in an Asian language, they'd laugh too. No one actually thinks they're stupid or shameful for not speaking English. Get a grip, Tumblr.

Calm down tumblr.

Some context for this one: Blogger asks how anyone liked/could currently like Invader Zim; various people gave their input.

Normally I don't give two shits about what children's cartoon people are sperging over because unless you're obnoxious about it, everyone likes different shit for different reasons. But how fucking coddled do you have to be to think Invader Zim is too hardcore for you instead of just mildly edgy at best? (Person also said the "Dark Harvest" episode; aka the one where Zim steals the organs of various children; "scarred them for life.")

And I mean, this person's a full-grown ass adult, hell, they're older than me. I'd understand if you were, like, a parent who was worried about whether or not the show was appropriate for their kid. But come the fuck on.
They're fucking drawings. Get over it.
Grow the fuck up and stop looking to be coddled in entertainment meant for children.

IT'S A FUCKING VIDEO GAME.
Nothing especially spergy, but if it wasn't about lesbians it wouldn't have 400k+ notes in one year.
400k.
Of course they'd be lesbians. This is Tumblr, anything that's gay and female will automatically be popular.

You're 36 years fucking old, grow up!
That father in the photo was doing the right thing. Parents have been doing this kinda punishment since modern schooling started.

It's kinda interesting to note how fandoms have gone overall on tumblr
Back in 2012-2013, while many sperged over kid's stuff, there were fandoms for more adult stuff like Hannibal, Sherlock, Game of Thrones, the Avengers...But nowadays it seems the only fandoms that seem to go on is Steven Universe and Undertale with random anime on the side.

Like adult media has become too "problematic" for these kids.

What's so hilarious is that the creator of Steven Universe was an Invader Zim fangirl, back when the show was airing. I don't have access to it at the moment, but have seen a screenshot someone dug up of her blog or whatever from back then. Also, she drew Ed, Edd, & Eddy porn. It's resurfaced online at some point in the past 2 years. What's so funny, is that the fans of her show are the ones who preach "don't draw NSFW stuff of an animated show!!! Think of the CHILDREN!"

(Honestly, you'll never even find NSFW content as long as you have safe search on, which every website that I know of turns on by default.

That's not always true. I *never* disabled safety stuff on Tumblr, but years ago browsing the Pokemon tag treated me to depraved human x animal cartoon porn involving twelve-year-olds. The utter depraved horror of those images is still stamped on my memory... even though I'd like to forget them. Some memories are just too traumatic to successfully erase. :'(

Darnit, I just wanted to see some cute Pokemon pictures..! ;__;

ed: Also, I now recall that clicking on a cute Sailor Moon PNG I saw reblogged once, instead of downloading a larger version of the image, took me to a blog with an closeup photograph that I will euphemistically describe as "menstrous penetration."

Tumblr WILL try to rape your eyes, you might as well just get used to it... :(

The thing I've noticed with how they act is they want childrens' series to be more adult (addressing serious, complex topics such as racism) and adults' series to be more childish (not allowing for realism or bad things to happen to the minorities of their choice, not portraying any 'mature' content, reducing the psychological complexity of the characters to archetypes). Admittedly, I don't mind the idea of a fandom deciding to explore dark implications of a child's series premise. It's a fun thought exercise and it can make for an interesting fanfiction. My problem is when the refuse to accept that the source material is what it is and act incredibly insecure about how they like it. They grasp at straws, going "No it's really for adults!" Hypocritically, much of those kinds of people bitch about the dumbass bronies who try to read extremely dark ideas into My Little Pony as if it's entirely canon.

But you are correct, that they're following only childrens' series lately. It's probably because, since childrens' series tend to be more simple, they can project all sorts of crap onto all the characters. You can also see it happen with Frisk in Undertale, due to being a complete blank for the player to project themselves onto Frisk.

It's harder to latch onto adult series. The psychological complexity of the characters lends them to things other than perfect orthodoxy with their ideologies. There's more content they consider problematic, such as showing something that's bad (racism, sexism, etc.) but leaving the viewer to draw their own conclusion instead of the asshole being smote or something in-story. That's why they freaked out over Bioshock: Infinite. It portrays racism, but it is left to the player to interpret it whatever way they will.

However, though it's harder, it doesn't completely stop people from trying to latch onto adult series, mind. As discussed in another thread, the Fallout fandom's half-infested. This is despite the slavery, genocidal people, horrific monstrosities, and so on that are common in the games. They've also latched onto a lot of modern science fiction and fantasy novels that are meant for adults, which is a headache and a half.

They seem to want hand-holding with the morals of the story, too. It's extremely condescending on their parts, like they think that somehow the readers will not be able to figure out that someone is evil unless it is explicitly stated repeatedly and they get punished severely for it.

Basically, they think that moral ambiguity doesn't real and can only understand a very basic good guys VS bad guys concept.

That and they want it easily definable so they can match it to their Us vs Them mentality- good vs evil, of course. If things start getting too grey, where do their friends fit? Where do they fit? Existential panic ensues

Even then, it's weird. It isn't even moral ambiguity and one could make numerous arguments for all sides. It's situations where something is clearly evil (such as kicking a dog to death for no reason whatsoever), but because the author doesn't immediately deus ex machina shit so the ne'er do well gets struck dead, then the author supports it.

It's this idea that portraying something = supporting it, unless it is immediately resolved. Of course, they ignore how this is bad for storytelling, because you can't just solve the plot like that because that's fucking boring and means there's no point to the story. But they never do care about the craft of storytelling. They see fiction solely as a means to bring their propaganda to people. Stories can have messages, true, but when everything else gets tossed out the window for the sake of the message, you'd be better off making a PSA than fiction.

And, to answer your question, YaoiHuntressEarth, and since it is Tumblr:
Rape. Stare Rape. Rape rape.
