Edit: The whole "disregard canon, gain representation" stuff has always annoyed me on the grounds that it comes across as canon not being good enough for them. Even though canon often portrays close friendships between characters of the same sex and the like. When canon has close friendships aren't stereotypical bros being bros between two dudes it completely deconstructs the whole "toxic masculinity" they whine about. But do they appreciate that? Nah, the bros are totes gayballs they don't make the rules but expect it to be law in fandom.

Honestly, shipping ruins a lot of character relationships. Like two dudes cant be best friend who hug eachother and confide in eachother. They must be gay. Theres just no way men can be people with emotions unless theyre gay.

Same thing happens to female characters, especially if theyre portayed as strong ("she doesnt need men")

I'd love to see someone flip out and explain there are no LGBT people in their SF work because it's the future and they've cured it.

I think we need some sort of points based rating system, a sort of Tumblr Quotient. You get points for being gay, points for being a POC (different colors are worth more of course) points for your gender etc etc and at the end of it we'd end up with a TQ rating to determine just how autistic these people are.
