The obese were seen as the upper class because for the majority of recorded history in the Anglosphere, only nobility or otherwise economically privileged people could afford access to excessive amounts of food. They also didn't always have to work in the fields or do much of any physical labor.This was at the bottom of an (attempted) discussion on minimum wage.

Since it's only recently that the obese are more common in middle-to-lower classes, we still associate it with money. Once again, Tumblr needs to read a book that isn't from the YA isle.
