Hating the Beatles is very popular on tumblr right now. I suspect because they're a beloved icon of the older generation and tumblr hates the older generation for being racist sexist scum who keep telling verbally abusing them with statements like "pay for your own things" and "clean your room."

I think also they really want to be hipsters and be too cool for The Beatles but they also still have pleb taste in music so instead they hold up their favorite pop idols in their place.

It's funny, you'll also see a lot of Tumblr raging that The Beatles started out as a "boy band" and then "suddenly, men started liking them" and they became legitimized and hailed as the greatest band ever.

Like they just didn't listen and compare their earliest work to Revolver or Rubber Soul and notice that the band was, you know, maturing.

It's a mix of the Beatles being an icon of older generations, tumblrinas trying to be hipsters (and the Beatles are mainstream), the fact that the Beatles were all straight white men that happened to be cisgender, all of which are the anti-tumblr, and the fact that tumblr has often terrible taste in music and things in general.

Because if an opinion is deeply personal and strongly felt, it's not an opinion anymore.

They also hate John Lenon and glorify Yoko Ono. As if the world went upside-down all of sudden.

Fucking Yoko Ono

They're convinced John Lennon was a wife-beater, which thanks to this forum, I found out was largely started by one author writing a biography that Ono herself said was bullshit.

John Lennon broke up the Beatles, not Yoko Ono. Yoko Ono was just an example of John's increasing assholery, which would have broken up the band with or without her. If she had even an ounce of personal talent, she'd be much less hated. I mean by normal people, nobody cares what SJWs think.

If she did one good thing, it was inspiring the B-52s into existence.

There's a meme going around about leaving your date when they say something "offensive" to you. I have no clues where it started.

And I bet that they thought Ono was just covering for him or something if this was pointed out to them.

I'll admit that I was guilty of believing that, but only because my friends are big music nerds and always complain about all the different ways that 'The Beatles' were terrible. I totally do believe that John Lennon forced Yoko Ono into the band against everyone's wishes though.

I'm not sure why people say that's an urban myth. He pretty much openly admitted to it in a Playboy interview.

"Getting Better."

LENNON: It is a diary form of writing. All that "I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved" was me. I used to be cruel to my woman, and physically -- any woman. I was a hitter. I couldn't express myself and I hit. I fought men and I hit women. That is why I am always on about peace, you see. It is the most violent people who go for love and peace. Everything's the opposite. But I sincerely believe in love and peace. I am not violent man who has learned not to be violent and regrets his violence. I will have to be a lot older before I can face in public how I treated women as a youngster.

It's pretty much irrelevant, sort of like pointing out Dostoyevsky was a drunk and a wife-beater, probably way worse than anything Lennon did.

Sharing in agreemant with the OP and second commenter, whilst rolling my eyes pretty hard at the third.

Now I have a pretty hard time buying the notion that asxeuality is inherently a queer identity. You aren't sexually attracted to people ("because you can still have sex and not have sexual attraction uwu" my feathery ass), congrats. The hardest shit you deal with is the fact that society does have a pretty weird attitude about sex in general, and ya don't get that sweet representation. An annoyance, but there are a lot more groups who need some rep besides entitled straight people (yeah we got plenty of that action).

There are a lot of commenters who are singing the tune of "well that person isn't straight!" and complaining about how people questioning this bullshit are all horrible acephobes or whatever. But, as Tumblr is wont to do, gotta have people shoehorning themselves into places they don't belong. It isn't that hard to say "yeah, I'm straight but I don't really like sex." Nope, they're queer as queer can be!

Agreed. The really cynical part of me thinks it's because asexuals on Tumblr want a piece of the sweet LGBT oppression pie, so they try to shoe horn their agenda into LGBT issues even if it doesn't fit.

Speaking of which, I saw this on my dash. While I do believe that there are legitimate issues regarding asexuals and oppression, this particular reeks of so much self pity and the OP of this post seems to have a giant victim complex.

Like shut the fuck up. I may be wrong but I don't think anyone has ever been kicked out of their house by their parents for being asexual. Third world countries don't execute people for being asexual. No one has ever been murdered for being asexual. And as for "corrective rape" that Tumblr keeps insisting happens to asexuals on a regular basis? It's actually more likely to happen to lesbians.

Also I'm convinced that about 85% of the asexual community on Tumblr aren't actually asexual either but rather confused teens who don't fit the stereotype of "boy/girl crazy." If that was the case, then I guess I must of been asexual as a teen as well because sex scared me and I was only psychically attracted to a few guys in the span of several years.
It's because tumblr loves to stereotype and think that all people that are straight like sex. You can be straight/gay/lesbian/bi and still dislike sex. It does not necessarily mean you are asexual.

For the fact that LGBT and asexuals being both the darlings of Tumblr, it's rather surprising that they tend to ignore LGBT asexuals. I mean, they might be rare but they certainly exist. Hell, Tim Gunn of Project Runway fame identifies as both as gay and asexual.

Kinda reminds me of famous Polish lolcow that was preaching that asexuals are the master race, because sex is icky and animalistic. But, seriously though, I don't get people on tumblr that say that asexuality is a spectrum.
You either want to bang people, or you don't. It's not a complicated concept...
