The problem with any community based on hypocrisy is that they won't self police themselves when forced to confront their own hypocrisy.

They were all for shitting on this place as unmitigated evil, but when it was proven they were no better and were damned by their own provable actions in that regard, the backpedaling left skid marks.

What they hate most is that not only do we make them look in the mirror, we apply the same to ourselves, so the usual shaming tactics to make their enemies either go away or appear weak just don't work. Sure, they'll tell the world we are unmitigated evil anyway, but they go out of their way to avoid having to back that up with provable fact, because doing so leads back down the road of exposing their own hypocrisy.

Yeah, well, you can't get a person to acknowledge reality if they don't want to, but hopefully other people look at stuff like that and see they are a bunch of hypocrites.

The first big thing that turned me off RationalWiki was their dumb slapfight with Rome Viharo, himself a top notch lolcow. They seem to be dedicated to harrassing that one dude, and they show their hypocrisy so openly when talking to him.

He's been in this thread before I believe, and like I said, he seems like a lolcow. But rationalwiki supposedly isn't just a site to make fun of internet weirdos. His entry is just weird shit from his past, cyberstaking shit, and then them saying he's basically a nazi for working with someone they don't like on wikipedia.

Rome, if you're reading this, please come into this thread and chronicle your slapfight with ratwiki, and also say funny things to make us laugh at you.

Okay, some interesting things on this I can share, but keep in mind I've emailed Rome a few times, want to admit that up front in case I'm biased.

Rome believes in some things I find hard to swallow and is willing to give a voice to people I think are full of it, want to get that out there.

Regardless, he's managed to disagree with me on a civil basis so long as you are willing to argue in good faith (we had a discussion on bitcoin once, with me being against, him for, and we ended the debate amicably). However, what RW hates him for is defending people they consider cranks, but his logic isn't so much that he buys all their ideas, but he'd rather show civility even to people he believes are full of it just in case they have a point, which I can't entirely disagree with, common courtesy even to people you think are totally wrong is just the basis of being polite in general.

I admit I'm not sure I like all the ways he goes about doing so, and he'd honestly be better off pretending RW and their lunatics don't exist as opposed to engaging them, it's clear they've made up their minds, no amount of attempted discussion on his part will ever change that at this point.

I've invited him here to share his side of the story, and I have warned him in the past if he did so that he'd get a pretty hard welcome, but so long as he kept his spaghetti in his pockets and could take some shit talk he'd find the Farms not all that scary, and while he has yet to do so, if he ever decides to, I just hope he keeps my advice in mind.

Yeah, like I said, the dude himself is a bit of a lolcow. But he's nice enough, and seems to respect the idea that people can disagree, putting him head and shoulders above ratwiki.

Seeing them gleefully declare themselves right and that dude deserved to have his life ruined forever for saying something they disagree with just turned me right off that place so hard. Then I came here and saw this thread, and many, many lols were had.

Now I'm just trying to relive those glory days. Come on catpotato! You'll totally win the debate this time!

OMG ratwiki slapfights are usually a win-win from the outside. You have the goofball woo peddler on one side, and the absurdly hypocritical jackasses who just so happen to be right on the other side.

And yet, almost every time, the woo peddlers make better, more logical arguments than the ratwiki idiots. The hugbox has ruined their ability to actually debate. All they know is ad-hominem now. Rational Wiki is now actively harming rationality by representing it so poorly.

They started out as "rational" because they were just about capable of debunking Kent Hovind. Then the fact that they were cult-Marx indoctrinated sophomores kicked in with all the rationality of the department of genetics in the Soviet Union. It's really quite sad and if you point this out they post "DRINK" and block you.

Also, the quoted section makes statements of fact that aren't true, with a person's signature at the end. Is that person not actionable for libel?

Not to mention even if the guy selling a load of horseshit is indeed wrong, I'm more inclined to sympathize with them while still not buying what they believe because they tend to be less assholish about it than their "rational" enemies.

RW is so obsessed with being right they don't care to be so with courtesy and civility, which is NOT rational, because you tend to get more people to listen by both being correct and being civil when explaining why you are right.

And aside from that, even if they happen to be right on some issues, they clearly got there accidentally because they utterly fail at critical thinking and logic. They can't even explain why things that are clearly right are right, they just say if you are questioning their rightness you must be a bigotted shitlord, because "reality has a left leaning bias".

Why won't any of them come here anymore? None of them believe in their own excellent debating skills?
