While I never knew of the drama surrounding this person I knew of their art which I would find reblogged by one or two of my friends. Other than that, I never looked at their art blog before so....yeah, what more can I say that hasn't been said before? When it all comes down to it the art is just 'TYPICAL' of what is seen as the 'safe' way of animating/drawing right now. Yes, we know it's ugly as sin but what do you expect at this point? I'm not at all surprised that there are professors at CalArts who encourage this type of thing which is ironic. No, my work isn't......POLISHED but when I was in my design classes, if we had a 'style' the teachers at least whipped us into making it look GOOD all the while teaching good design principals as well. The whole point WAS to REFINE so we had something that looked like it was worth having people pay for it. We were taught the basics, the old school stuff but at the end of the day it was really up to us which path we wanted to go.

CalArts seems to have a reputation for promoting styles that are in at the moment but at the same time saying that, the most SUCCESSFUL people we often celebrate from CalArts do have their own unique look to their work. They were possibly taught a certain base but then found their own zone to draw in. I don't get that feeling anymore because the latest churn outs DO look exactly the same and it's this hipster wannabe overly simplistic mess. Rory may be going to CalArts but her arts looks like anything else that someone on Tumblr going to a more affordable school could whip up without classes.

In other words, her shit ain't special.

It's getting to a point where I have more respect for 12 year olds on Deviantart who draw nothing but MS paint sparkledogs than I do for Rory. Sure, the art itself may not be great, but at least when you see it you can safely assume it's a couple of kids having some stupid fun, not a grown-ass adult who's had years of experience, goes to an expensive art school and shows no signs of improving.

Also, the 12 years old on deviantart are still learning, and will accept contrutive criticism and, if they keep drawing, can grow into amazing artists.

Meanwhile, artists like Rory, who think are too good for criticism and only accept blind compliment, they always seem to go downhill. There were a few people in my college like her on this aspect, and the teachers only allowed them to graduate to get rid of them.

Looking at the reblogs, some people are going ham on this person -- and for good reason. Why there are people still defending Rory is beyond me. Especially since the people she's turned into caricatures are saying it's not OK. If you're not the one she's insulting then sit down and listen. Too many Tumblrs are bleeding hearts, but for the wrong people. I remember when these people were trying to defend PK too.

Like, if the transphobia and racism doesn't bother you.. OK, maybe that's fine? Maybe you're too stupid to see that none of this is an accident on Rory's part.. But how do you defend someone who's a raging cunt to her fans, or up-and-coming young artists just seeking some advice/help?

See, I'm a pretty experienced artist, but even I admit very often there's plenty room for improvement in my work. That's one thing I don't like about her most. The other is her attitude, of course. I get confronted a lot by younger artists looking to improve, and I'll give them advice to the best of my abilities. In the past, I've let people trace my work or just color it for practice. It kind of makes me hate her even more because of the way she treats her fans and people that look up to her. Seeing that post by that kid that attempted suicide just hurt.. Even if it may not be true, I know there are people out there that Rory has treated badly. She's probably turned young artists away from art because of her attitude, and that's just so sad.

I found a Dr. Terry Cummings and a Dr. Thersa Dise working at the same medical center in New Orleans, where Rory is from. So I don't think she's lying about the moms thing.
