Some Doctor Strange controversy came from an originally Tibetan (male) character being played by a white woman. Of course, this is funny because if said character had been kept Tibetan, it would have fallen into the "wise old Asian mentor" trope/stereotype, so they would have complained anyway because racism. That's one part of it, at least. The other part seems to be them wanting Doctor Strange to be Asian because "cultural appropriation." I can't remember if I've already mentioned that in this thread or another, so I'm sorry if I'm repeating myself.

The other part of the controversy that they don't want to talk about (Marvel themselves will stick to the 'we were trying to avoid Asian stereotypes' story) is straight up due to movie and money politics - since China is a huge cashcow for films that would otherwise not succeed in America alone (see: Pacific Rim is only getting a sequel because China loved the hell out of it), they had to basically scrub every mention of Tibet from the story or else it'd be boycott from being released over there, what with China's, erm...'complicated' relationship with Tibet, let's call it.

...plus, how many goddamn Tibetan big name actors can you actually name? They went with a safe option for their investment. It's not like there aren't tons of non-white characters in the movie too (and their beloved-from-Hannibal Great Dane Mads Mikkelsen).

^And the whole issue with the Tibet/China/Asian countries in general not getting along is a much more interesting debate to discuss than the same old "Hollywood is racist/whitewashing still happens!"

Though as usual, SJWs ignore issues that occur outside the west or that they can't paint in an easy to understand black or white light (see their stupid thoughts regarding the Israel conflict)
