Really lazy edit but holy shit I had to show how much the legs looked like celluloid tumors. Also the face looked like the goddamn moon emoji. The pose is awkward in general and it's probably just some throwaway sketch but she's still posting these and boasting about being in Calarts...

Well tumblr doesnt acknowledge original art at all unless youre an already established artist so young artists resort to the pastel genderbullshit to gain some attention, get fans etc. But then even when they post some original art it wont get nearly as much notes as fanart or gendershit they get discouraged and continue with tumblr-approved art.
This is kind of why i dont post on tumblr anymore. There really arent good art communities
Tell me about it. Original art in general is always going to be a hard upsell no matter where you post, it's just gotten worse in the last couple years for so many reasons. Granted, it's no different than it was on DA a few years back in its prime (where it felt like every other week, someone was bitching about original art vs. fan art), mind you, but arguably the way Tumblr is set up only amplifies this sore spot even more. Especially when you factor in the CalArtsesque pastel genderbullshit that arguably makes up a large chunk of fan art on the site that would be better off called original art, simply because the shit's often so far removed from the source material. Yet somehow gets hundreds-to-thousands of notes.
The fact that people can now get professional jobs solely/primarily from doing fan art (i.e. Kris Anka, Kevin Wada, Lauren Zuke, and a lot of the pre-Disney buyout "pro" Star Wars artists for Lucasfilm, to name a few) thanks to social media like Tumblr and Twitter probably hasn't helped the matter much and/or unrustled the jimmies of artists who focus solely on original material and continue to be overlooked. But that's probably better saved for another time/place/thread to discuss.
The sad thing is that Rory, if she actually put forth the effort to turn these tumors and abominations into purely original characters and works, might actually have a chance of becoming one of the rare few who can get their original works noticed without putting in too much effort, because her art has a very "ooooh, shiny!" quality to it that unsuspecting young people would be attracted to and be completely oblivious to the undertones behind it. Sort of like Snapesnogger back in the day with her 'Red Venom' stuff or Humon's creepy shit in general.

Literally nothing in this dumpster fire of a drawing looks good. If you glance at it, it's not immediately apparent what's wrong, but the moment you actually study it for a few minutes, you get struck by the toothpick ankles under the tumor thighs and the weird-ass Mickey Mouse arms. The face is far from flattering, but frankly, it's sort of what I've come to expect from tumblr artists, anyway.

Well no, I'm reaching, and imo these look like shit even as a layperson.
I'm guessing these are supposed to be realistic? What are these, they can't be gesture drawings? Are they from life? Why is every person she draws lumps?
Her art genuinely looks like she wiggles her arm in any direction that looks like a limb and then she colors in what she draws on the first try.

Oh that looks much better! I thought about putting structure in the arms and figure too but it was late and couldn't be bothered. Really shows how her style can work if she put's some actual form into her anatomy and remove the cringeworthy faces.

For someone nearing the end of their first semester in CalArts, Rory sure doesn't understand how feet placement and weight distribution work. That's one of the first lessons any animator gets drilled into their head. Believable movement and poses start from the bottom up.

I was wondering why Cher's skin is so dark in the fan art, at first I was gonna give her the benefit of the doubt and guess it was some nightlife stage lighting. Buuut Tumblr has a tendency to "blackwash" white fictional characters for virtual signalling. Many also think it's white washing to give Asian or Hispanic characters light skinned.
I had to look up Cher's background to find out why, apparently shes half Armenian

Hey, the redraws are nice and huge improvements, but that's the kind of thing that made the PurpleKeckleon thread into a massive cringey circlejerk for a while there. Just saying.
Armenians are mostly white, though: the lead singer of System of a Down is Armenian and he's only got a very light tan-ish color to his skin. And the Kardashian hellspawns are half-Armenian, too, but they all have varying levels of tan-ness to their skin (though they probably fake tan, so they're probably not a good barometer).
Speaking of Cher, she's got a transman son, though given Chaz got the top surgery, Rory probably has no interest in him since he don't have titties.

I prefer Rory's portraitures, gesture sketches and environmental studies. Their character work lacks any charm. Also who in their right mind would include fan art in their portfolio.

While her realistic shit is alright, her cartoony stuff is absolutely horrible and it's sad that the only reason she got into one of the most prestigous art schools in the US is because of money. But maybe I'm just a little salty considering that I have a bunch of friends who are great artists but don't have the funds to get into Calarts.
