It happens when your professors push you too much to do things the way they do it, or when you don't go to art school to actually learn.

I don't have a low opinion of art school because I went to one and benefitted quite a lot from it, but there were maybe 3 students per class like this. The professor would tell them that they need to do something different with their style because x isn't reading properly. Occasionally one would argue but most of the time they would shrug it off and continue to get marked down for poor anatomy or rendering.

Everyone was like "wow you're great!" at first, but when she refused to actually get better, going so far as to walk out of the classroom when a professor dared critique her work, she found herself alone very quickly. She couldn't rely on the smoke and mirrors that got her into art school, refused to progress, destroyed all her potential connections to the industry, and has yet to find work 4 years later . Rory's gonna end up the same way if she's as arrogant IRL as she is online.

I've seen this exact thing happen when I took a life drawing class as well.

It's so typical of "talented" people to regress and fuck up under pressure, whereas the average guy strives to get better despite the shaky start. I'd definitely work with an enthusiastic average artist than an amazing artist with a garbage attitude.

I think what happens is she's told to do things differently but thinks her teacher's probably just being a "hard ass" or "too critical" and ignores the teacher's advice. Not really working for her, though.

I have no problem beliveving Rory is the exact type you described, as insufferable IRL as she is online.

She strikes me of having been that-one-kid-who's-good-at-art in high school, got lots of buttpats for it, and still hasn't ridden down that ego high. She gets a lot of compliments for shitty art from online hugboxes as well, so all that feeds her delusions of grandeur.

That she seems to be a spoiled rich kid (in addition to calarts' huge tuition she used to attend a 20k/year private high school) doesn't help matters.

Sh's pretty young, so she might change her attitude with them, but everything we've seen so far isn't very encouraging. I can definitely see her ending up a lazy, complacent egomaniac like PurpleKekleon.

The lineart is looking more and more shaky and she's even colouring outside the lines.
Y'know, something your average elementary schoolkid has no problem with... but mummy and mommy paid 50k+ so their snowflake could forget the basics.

Rory draws a shape that could work well as a head of cartoon character and instead of face draws 2 dots and a line.

Fantastic, latching on a simplistic style like Bravest heroes was what Rory needed to reverse EVEN MORE as an artist!

I liked scribbling when I was in school and had people asking if I was looking to go to art school when I graduated. I would laugh and say, hell no- I want to get paid.

TL;DR She has a shitty ass taste and can't tell if design elements (Hope that makes sense? English isn't my first language) work together or not.

Long answer, she tries to incorporate elements from different styles she likes, but for some weird reason (:autism:?) she always work with shapes and styles that JUST DON'T WORK TOGETHER, refuses to acknowledge their ugliness and decides to stick with that as a style, and since that style is good for her, she doesn't do further actual researches or studies to actually improve herself as an artist.

Sad thing is, if you look closely at Rory's traditional art, you will notice her lines are pretty decent, they show she has practiced a lot, and yet, all that practice will go to waste because Rory can't accept she is wrong, and that her compositions and designs don't look good.

As well as the infamous Andrew Dobson, it really just comes down to not taking critique or taking any initiative to branch out and experiment with style and plain ol' from life practice

She's had a stroke and no one noticed because it didn't affect any other areas of her brain. Or she's just too lazy and up herself to give a shit. One or the other.

Her lines and colouring are getting sloppier and lazier by the day, but she still thinks she's perfect.
