Artcow rcdart / Rory Cummings-Dise - Tranny Fetishist who Torpedoed a Potential Animation Career

Yeah, we fucking do, unfortunately.

I don't have classes with Rory because I've been here(calarts) for awhile, but their attitude online makes us all look bad(or worse. whatever you think of us at this point).
Welcome to the farms, we would like you to tell us more about Rory's shenanigans at calarts, since you don't take any classes with them, can you dig info from her classmates?

@ilovevore69 Are you in the same year? Has she been in your social circle?

I'm not a first year, thus the "I've been there for awhile" thing I said before. Not disclosing which year for obvious reasons.

I'm not in any of their social circles. I don't really see them other than passing by them in the halls. I can't really "dig" any info on them because
1. The semester is over. Everyone has gone home, so there's nobody for me to pester.
2. It would be absolutely foolish for me to post on here and then proceed to dig info out of people. We're not blind to this kind of gossip, and quite a few are aware of this thread, myself included, so it would not be a smart move on my part.

On another note, I do recall many of the freshmen kind of rallying behind Rory at some point. I forget what the reason was. A callout post, I believe? I do remember being mildly frustrated though because nobody would bother to tell them that they should get it together.
There are people that are frustrated with them, albeit very quietly because nobody wants to start any trouble. The department is small, and so is the industry, so it's best to not start any quarrels or controversy, to put it bluntly.

I admire your restraint on the issue of Rory and insight on this matter.

The callout post(s) could rally the freshmen together to Rory, albeit obviously one-sided favoring Rory.
I'm surprised the atmosphere is so chill when someone like Rory needs to be toned down quite a bit in regards to her narcissism and puffed-up ego.

If you don't mind my asking, what sort of reputation does Rory have? Is she as arrogant IRL as she acts online?

Also, what is your opinion on Rory's art?

I've never interacted with Rory personally. I only have a handful of friends and know of people that do interact with Rory on the daily basis. The arrogance seems like a front, though (or so I hope). Definitely a lot of insecurity there since I barely see them at events and parties. Their reputation amongst the freshmen seems okay, but I know of a few upperclassmen that are annoyed by Rory's antics behind closed doors.

I think Rory's art is obnoxious, hollow, derivative, and offensive. I get frustrated looking at it, especially the gross misinterpretations of other characters.
I feel the critique that is said to their face online is unwarranted and poorly thought out, which obviously would illicit a negative reaction, but I wouldn't be surprised if they take well-constructed critique the same way in school as they do online since their ego seems to go unchecked. What bothers me is they can't seem to be humble and admit to their faults. I honestly hoped that some of the teachers would tear Rory a new one, that wasn't the case this year, apparently.

Not all of the critique given to Rory has been vitriolic. It started out with people writing their genuine concerns, for example, Rory's abjorringly racist caricatures that they shoo away with their 1/16th Mexican heritage as an excuse.

Rory's been given well thought out critique, they're just massive prick who thinks their shit don't stink.

Forgive me, I was thinking about the more recent incident on instagram. But you are right, the criticism Rory received before hand was justified, especially the fetishistic Captain America work.

Freshmen will be freshmen, but least it's good to know even amongst her peers, people don't seem to like being around her, or possibly even working with her. It sounds like she's withdrawing away from people willingly, which is going to be a problem in the future. If she's not going to interact with people a lot and attempt to curb her arrogant behavior, she's going to have a hard time working in the animation industry, if she gets in.

What students do online isn't any of the school's business, but it does hurt the reputation of the school when someone like Rory is going around posting blaxican tranny porn and bragging about how she's a CalArts student. Does CalArts take student online behavior into account for their programs at all? Could something like that influence her relationship with her professors?

I feel bad for all the normal students who are there to become better artists.

Drawing porn is not a problem for the industry. Bruce Timm did and he's one of the biggest names out there. You don't even hav to be that great, the mediocre pilots CN is shitting out is proof of that. It's your connections and manners that matter, and calarts can't force you to not be a narcisistic bitch

Oh I'm not talking about the porn per say. It's shitty porn, who cares. I'm talking more about the fetishizing trans men, racist caricatures, extreme responses to even mild criticism, and overall condescending shitty uwu tumblr attitude.

The school doesn't take it into account despite the fact that they do have URLs and links to our social media. The head of the department is obsessive about social media presence and presentation. Nobody ever really gets in trouble since we all try to remain vigilant about how we appear on social media for this very reason, especially since we have the name branded onto us like a cattle. I've never heard of anyone having a poor relationship with professors due to their online behavior, especially since many of us interact with them on social media from time to time.

It does make us look bad, and that's why it's such a huge problem (besides the petty discourse that surrounds the school online already). I've seen people assuming that most of us are like Rory when really, Rory is the only student within the program that acts this way.

Of course it's going to be an issue if Rory keeps up this act since getting jobs truly does rely on how others perceive you. I've had friends not recommended for tests because of their poor work ethic and others for drawing bizarre feet porn of a character. Not to say Rory would be barred from opportunities because of their porn, more so for their narcissism, especially in an industry as small and collaborative as animation.

Reminds me of similar situations in my art school. Not to the scale of Rory though.

Hopefully she can learn that being nice will go a very long way. Being progressive is one thing, but being a weird fetishist asshole is another.
