Maybe it's just because I'm black and I'm normalized to seeing different varieties of lip sizes within the black community, but his lips aren't THAT big.

Are his lips kind of big? I guess a little bit. Not nearly to the extent to excuse Rory exaggerating the hell out of them like that though. Adding onto the fact that there are many tutorials out there that show how to not draw black people akin to racist caricatures. She could've easily done better, but that's what you get when you're lazy.

Oh, I agree. She seems to be more of a terrible artist who went overboard with the SJW proportions than a racist. But either way you'd have to be blind to think her drawings of black men aren't problematic (for lack of a better word), especially when viewed without the context of her other Thick Bubble Lip art.

Rory's drawings are literally a slice of watermelon and the character's asking "would a sof'shoe be to massa's likin'?" from being full blown racist caricatures. I agree though Rory's art is terrible and it is only getting worse.

I mean, the nose width is a little exaggerated, but if you want to say this dude's nose is of average width across all races, then you would be either pretending to be ignorant or actually ignorant.

Cheekbones and chins are also not straight lines with sharp angles, nor do eyes take up half your face, and yet you don't seem to mention that. It's only the big noses and lips that you fixate on.

By the way, "Rory" isn't her legal first name- it's just what she tells everyone to call her. IIRC her real first name is Katherine. She made a since-deleted post on Rorpie a long time ago mentioning it.

The problem isn't that she drew his lips big- the problem is that she drew them light pink, which they obviously aren't in real life. Also she gave him a disproportionately small, ape-like cranium, a trait no healthy human being posseses.

Drawing black people as ape-like with big pink lips is racist for obvious reasons. Why are you so insistent on defending her on this?

...Okay, you not living in the United States actually explains a lot. Why are you starting an argument about black Americans if you haven't even met one?

The social politics concerning black people's historical mistreatment, though they mostly apply to many western countries, are pretty unique in the United States. It's difficult to fully grasp the complexities of the situation unless you live here.

This can also happen in reverse- most notably when SJWs try to speak for countries they know dick about, like Japan or India. They're so used to the overly-sensitive sociopolitical environment in the United States that they forget that other countries don't really fixate on race as much as the United States does.

Anyway, this is getting fftopic: as hell. Bottom line: don't start shit over things you don't know much about.

This is simply one more thing in a long line of things that black people feel the need to get offended by when there's really no harm being done or meant. Getting back on topic to before that shitshow happened, what do you guys think is going to happen moving forward?

Do you think Rory may re-emerge a changed person now that she's had multiple callouts and it started to bleed out into her real life? Or will she return the same as ever, and just be waiting for everything to blow over.

I wonder if she'll come back with a new account and a new persona, but at the same time I don't think she would do that. I wonder though, if she would change her style up when she comes back.

Only time will tell really, and she is quite young and I hope for her sake she gets a new attitude and improves and can become successful.

Yeah, she really shot herself in the foot. As time goes on, the internet will only become more lucrative for careers, especially ones involving visual art. She's severely damaged her career prospects by dragging her own name through the mud. She's young enough to have grown up entirely with the internet, so its entirely possible that she never learned the importance of anonymity like people who were introduced to the internet as teenagers or adults.

The concept of "no powerleveling" should honestly become a thing in more internet communities.

Her best bet now would be to lay off the internet for a few years, do a complete overhaul of her art style (which desperately needed one anyway), and work under a pseudonym. And for those of you saying it isn't possible, it certainly is; it's just really uncommon because most artcows are stubborn and lazy. Snapesnogger managed to turn her art around:

It's worth noting, however, that her drama was associated with her pseudonym and not her actual name, which she didn't reveal to the internet until years later. She had the luxury of being able to recover simply by using her real name. Conveniently, nothing pertaining to her old snake yaoi comes up if you google "Gemma Wilson".

Rory's only option at this point would be to change her actual name, though she might have already changed it once- as I said before, "Rory" isn't her given name. If she hasn't legally changed it to Rory already, she could probably go back to her given name and drop one of her last names.
