Ready or Not - The 2nd video game to let you flash bang a small child

Why are there 5 dudes with assault rifles on the streamer map? I thought it was supposed to be a simple swatting scenario. I expected a short, easy going mission, where I have to tase a fat faggot and his mom and perhaps ventillate mom's fuckbuddy, if he dares to pull a gun.
But nooooooo, we can't have that, you see, the streamer runs a sekrit illegal operation and has his own security detail of heavily armed thugs to protect it.
I wish Void wasn't obsessed with these labyrinthian maps, crawling with suspects, armed to the teeth, ready to fight till death at the drop of a hat. I wish there was at least one map similar to the Fairfax residence from SWAT 4.

Literally my exact thoughts, Its so fucking disappointing that its yet another marathon map with a small army in it. The subreddit seems pretty upset about it too so it isn't just us. Really weird Bait and Switch. I have yet to reach the other new maps yet, but I feel like the devs focused way too hard on combat and not enough on the whole police thing so far.

Yet, there are a bunch of eager shills, who feel the need to jump in front of the proverbial bullet, to protect their beloved dev team from any criticism, defending these decisions.
Unfortunately, it looks like Void would rather listen to them.
I know the game had a troubled development cycle, so it is hard to tell what their original vision was. As far as I know, RoN was always meant to be a spiritual successor of SWAT 4. Clearly this vision was heavily distorted and we ended up with this schizophrenic disappointment of a game.
In its current state, RoN is not a tactical shooter, but a regular old shooter, with extra steps, which are actually optional. You could try to play realistically, go by the rules and use all the tools at your disposal and maybe you end up having a satisfying run every once in a blue moon. Or, you could just assume none of the suspects are going to surrender (which is true most of the time) and just yell for compliance and shoot everyone on sight. That's what I ended up doing on the streamer level yesterday and I finished it under 10 minutes. It felt like a hit job, rather than a police operation though, because I have not followed any of the procedures.

Edit:
I wouldn't mind the bait and switch, but now it just plays like every other level. There is no switch.

You see this in every game's community, people who will gladly suck the dick of the devs for no reason other than the fact they like the game, its fucking annoying how any and all criticism is always met with 2 or 3 shills calling OP a whiny bitch or similar.
I do disagree that RoN is not a tactical Shooter, it is, just its a tactical shooter in the same vein as Ground Branch and not SWAT 4. You still have to use tactics, just your tactics are those of Soldiers and not SWAT officers.

Overall so far I like 1.0 but I feel like its not really that big of a jump for the game, definitely shouldn't have taken a year to release, I hope void spend some time improving 1.0 before they worry about DLC, though part of me fears they might not.

Exactly. I was expecting a Fairfax residence type of setup. Instead, I am trolled. You mean to tell me that nobody called 911 to tell them that the apartment complex has just been seized by an army of a Mexican cartel? Nobody noticed that? Fuck off.

I saw a few people going "oh wow its such a cool bait and switch, oh its so epic!", Fuck off, its just another shit tier maze with suicidal gang bangers and one fat guy. Void seems fucking allergic to maps that take less than 5 minutes to explore, people have wanted a Fairfax type map for years and we still don't have one.

While I don't outright hate the streamer map, I do think its execution could've been better. The trailer, briefing, suspect info, and 911 call all imply that you won't be going up against much other than the streamer itself, since it seems more like a prank call than a genuine barricaded suspect scenario. So, I opted to take up my trusty pepperball gun so that we could hopefully get an S-Rank. Lo-and-behold, the place is crawling with dudes armed with AKs and Uzis. Why couldn't I be informed of this prior to entering the map? There was absolutely nothing to indicate that the place was going to be a warzone. The game practically lied to you in this regard.

That said, I do like the map's overall aesthetic. It was especially hilarious when my friends blew the streamer's head off live on stream as revenge for killing me, resulting in the chat descending into "Fs" and "Yiff in hell furfag."

They've had nearly 18 months to fix the AI and it doesn't feel like it's been touched at all. Commanding friendly AI to clear areas is like watching two groups of T-800s fighting.

You know in Tarkov how people complain about scavs head-eyeing you through bushes, cars, buildings, etc if they see so much as a pixel of your body? RoN has that but 10 times worse because it's not a once in a while occurrence, it's every fucking AI.

The streamer level would have worked, if the game didn't have god awful pacing and storytelling. Here is how I would have done it.

This is the very first mission after the tutorial.
It really is just a case of swatting.
As a result there are only a handful of NPCs to deal with:
  • A disgruntled neighbor who complains about all the noise the kid makes. He is reluctant to surrender cause he finds it unjust, but gives up after a few yells.
  • Crazy BPD mom, who needs to be pepper sprayed or tased to surrender.
  • Mom's John, who is on probation, doesn't really want to surrender, barricades himself in a room and there is a small chance he might pull a gun. He needs to be pepper sprayed, tased or naded to finally give up.
  • The streamer kid, who would sit in front of his computer, up until you reach him, as he hears nothing of the commotion, cause he wears a headset. He instantly surrenders.
After the arrest you see suspicious chats on the guy's monitor, so you search the room for evidence and find his CP stash. You confiscate it along with his hard drives, which you submit for further analysis.
All of this could still lead to the whole Voll thing later on.

Alternatively, if you really, really want that bait and switch.

This is the third mission. The first two were "easy".
The first segment of the mission would pretty much play out the same way as I previously described.
After you make your arrests, you discover an electrical cord leading to another apartment.
This apartment houses the server farm and the armed thugs.
Shit gets real, but they mostly surrender if you use flashbangs, stingers or CS.

I haven't tried the game myself, but it is pretty funny as an outside observer to see one of the main complaints being the enemy AI acting like inhuman, unyielding sharpshooters for what seems like years, and the devs just... don't change it. Is there a big "just get gud" aspect to the community or something? It seems like, mechanically, lowering reaction speed and adding in dispersion (or even the old trick where some enemies will purposefully have their first shot miss) would be easy to do.

Pretty much.
I think there is a vocal minority of supporters and sycophants who managed to convince the devs, a SWAT simulator would be boring, so they should just make another dime a dozen twitch shooter. This obviously clashes with the game's theme.
Or the devs are just incompetent and lazy.

It does seem like they are awake and pay attention now that the game is out.

I think it's not hopeless. I mean, they did deliver one hell of a product after all this time. It's just that it plays more like Rainbow Six rather than SWAT 4, as others have already aptly pointed out. They were struggling big time with getting it out, so I am not surprised they were unable to catch a large swathe of design issues and bugs during playtesting. Personally I am optimistic and think that they will put the game to the whetstone to sharpen it properly.

Im kinda going fo the latter, specially judging how they cannot make a normal sized map

Watched the "Streamer" map. The gameplay lasted for 9.5 minutes. While previously people have pointed about the Furry mask and tails (unless I didn't pay attention), there are other stuffs inside Streamer's room. Naked Anime figurines, posters (probably AI generated), mangas (or is it doujin perhaps?), you name it. Even the player disgusted when looking at the naked figure. There are other references such as Fortnite's toy gun, fumo plushie, and other knock-off movie posters. Timestamp is 06:25.

That's the thing, for a while the Suspect AI was decent, or at least considered decent, but when 1.0 came around suddenly the Suspects are back to being inhuman marksman with reaction times of gods. I didn't play much of RoN since the Adam update but I never remember them being this broken post Adam Update.

EDIT: There is a post on reddit putting forth the theory AI is fucked because the devs messed up the AI values and made it so the AI GAINS morale for every suspect Killed and flashbang used, basically meaning they will never surrender. Also the AI has a reaction time of 200 milliseconds. OP went into the actual AI file in game and looked at it.

This is kinda what I think they were going for, but it came out really bad in practice. I doubt void will go back and change the level but I really hope they do.

That's the only reason the first PC Ghost Recon game was so memorable. Walking around for 20 minutes not clear on where to go or what to do and then taking one wrong step and boom. "LOST A MAN" and then you see the whole squad eat lead as you bleed out and they try to save your dumb ass. Not really seeing it coming/failure to observe is really the only way to form some sort of realism that can be expressed in a game. You were doing a sweet op but you were not crouching friend, load a savegame and do it the proper way Tom Clancy says to do it.

RnO's game premise was to be a near elite military/tac shoooter realsim but still begrudgingly a game to the extent necessary. Lots of "PTSD" war vets on disability are involved, did livestream fundraisers, etc. Because kicking in doors in Iraq at 2am, arresting some father, waving the world's finest assault weapons at unarmed families and then releasing dad the next day after you take away the household AK and only means of defense against militant death squads really prepares you to be some whole other kind of in-game hero. First they played xbox360 on their bases and chowed down on Taco Bell beetween war crimes and friendly fire incidents, now they beg for money and glamorize the paramilitarization of police forces. True warriors.

Anyway, I'm hoping for a Uvalde DLC where I can just chill out for an hour while the gunshots are popping off. "I have no orders" and "not my job" player perks and then maybe beat up and arrest a few parents who have the audacity to get upset that their children are being shot inside while I'm just hanging out, minding my own business and trying to max out my overtime. If you are going to do it, make it realistically real. Oorah.

I was expecting a simple stupid SWATting incident and I got a small private army when I played lmao. I tried bringing the pepper guns to neutralize them but apparently some nigger wearing a jersey and no face protection can take multiple pepper balls in the face just fine and still gun me down. I like RoN, it’s intense as hell, but that mission pissed me off, because I wanted an S so that I could get the anime tattoos because the idea of an ultra hardcore SWAT man with anime characters on his arms is hilarious to me, and they made it difficult without risking the stress of your officers.

I'm using a mod that makes the AI less blood thirsty and got a S using the beanbag shotgun, failed a few runs because my AI killed someone and one time I killed a guy with the beanbag shotgun.
The Anime girl Tattoo wasn't worth it.

Which mod are you using? It might be nice just in general while they fix the Spec Ops level AI. As for the killing, I’ve given my teammates less lethal options, but it’s an utter pain in the ass especially when sometimes the fuckers either don’t surrender when you hit them multiple times or there are like 50 people in one room with automatic weapons while I’m trying to ensure the other ones aren’t threats anymore

I still want S rank anyways just for the achievements, having a cosmetic is just a plus

I use "No Crack for AI", it probably makes the suspect AI a bit too easy but I rather have them be too easy than too hard. There's a few others on Nexus that are probably worth a try too
