I think you could fix the story by mainly spacing shit out, after beach front the entire game is a marathon of batshittery. If we had better pacing the shit wouldn't stick out nearly as badI wouldn't mind joke props and easter eggs here and there, like that Redpill box. You wouldn't really notice them during normal gameplay. Same goes for the hidden section of the hotel room. People are capable of revolting acts and I'm sure police officers have to deal with disgusting shit more often than us. The problem is, the devs replaced these things with much more disturbing stuff, that just make the game feel cartoonish.
The streamer guy is a giant caricature, the cult is now a bunch feminists worshipping paranormal effigies. These things take away from the game and make it feel like a petty revenge fantasy. Yeah, arrest that zoomer, furfag pedo! Yeah, gun those crazy, satanist feminists down!
This is barely any better than a game, where you would play as a trans revolutionary, who hunts down and kills fat MAGA republican hicks.
Sadly, this aspect of RoN cannot really be fixed with mods. The AI can be tweaked, realistic maps can be made, but I doubt anyone will bother to rewrite the main story, or introduce a full campsign.
I suppose you are right, these levels would have a much bigger impact, if they were nestled between mundane cases.I think you could fix the story by mainly spacing shit out, after beach front the entire game is a marathon of batshittery. I say if you were to add 12 new levels, making the total 30, you would make the story 100 times better.I suppose you are right, these levels would have a much bigger impact, if they were nestled between mundane cases.
Every storyline in Ready or Not would be the Main story of any other game.Been playing 1.0. Keep in my mind I've never played SWAT 4 so I don't have a good framework to go with to judge this game. I think it's fun, but the biggest problem I have with the game is that it feels like it was written by someone who's 16 if I'm being real generous. It's so juvenile and over the top in terms of its concepts and premises that I swear to god it feels like a teenager wrote it during a creative writing workshop. "Dude, there's like fucking pedophiles down in this den and they melt the children down in vats of acid this shit is so fucked!"
It's also more fun to play this game like a sociopath for me rather than as a "police officer". I've had more fun shooting bad guys Hotline Miami style than trying to arrest them because nine times out of ten, I get lines like "these cuffs are too tight!" or "hey not so rough!" complete with terrible voice acting that make me laugh out loud. They just feel like generic NPCs rather than characters you're supposed to try and spare.Every storyline in Ready or Not would be the Main story of any other game.
The Terror Cell shooting up Night Clubs and hospitials? Easily a idea that can fill 1 entire campaign.
The Massive Pedo Ring that involves a entire fucking data storage company and a famous porn star? Ditto
The Human Trafficking gang who is selling women off to the highest bidder and has direct Ties to Russia and Probably the FBI?
And yet void tries to stuff all of these stories into 1 game, including the fucking domestic terrorist veterans and the cartel telling Meth heads to dig massive tunnels for some reason. None of thse plots get the chance to be fleshed out and you instead jump between all 5 or 6 alongside the standalone missions.
I have a feeling, that the devs would set themselves on fire if they had to make a map, that wasnt the size of a fucking Scrooge McDuck mansion.I say if you were to add 12 new levels, making the total 30, you would make the story 100 times better.
Now when I say new levels, I mean small scale stuff, house raids, apartment raids, maybe some small stores, shit like that. You can even tie these into some of the bigger storylines incase someone at void is very anal about the story lines.
And its funny because the Only map I've seen get universal praise in RoN is Beachfront, The smallest map in game. (Maybe, 4u might be smaller but its probably close.)I have a feeling, that the devs would set themselves on fire if they had to make a map, that wasnt the size of a fucking Scrooge McDuck mansion.
Why does this read, like a script to a rejected Steven Seagal or Chuck Norris movie? It's almost like people want more personal stories in more familiar locations, not "Oh fuck, Porn Star Dick Bigolo is fucking KIDS in his SECRET PEDOPHILE BASEMENT, go beanbag his entire security detail of Ex SOCOM guys with Full Auto SMGs"
That's exactly what made SWAT 4 very interesting, especially at the time when it was released. While many games at the time followed a pretty logical linear story that built up to a bigger and bigger intrigue as it progressed, SWAT 4 was like a real police career: a lot of boring stuff with some notable cases in between. Granted, it still heavily weighed in on the big cases to keep the player engaged, but it was some new shit at the time. It's still a really compelling concept, and it's disappointing to see that VOID didn't catch this vital element of SWAT 4, despite alleging themselves to be such big fans of the game.I suppose you are right, these levels would have a much bigger impact, if they were nestled between mundane cases.
SWAT 2 did this a bit better I think. Most of the missions were based on shit that actually went down in LA like the riots after Rodney King got the shit beat out of him, but there was an overarching plot where the actual antagonists were a survivalist death cult a la Waco. That's exactly what made SWAT 4 very interesting, especially at the time when it was released. For all the praise RoN gets for its Lore and Environmental Story Telling, which I think is pretty good, nothing in RoN is as scary as Fairfax to me. Swat 4 and Swat 3 are good at having interesting locations and missions without being ridiculous.I mean, Fairfax resident isn't really boring. You are still catching one of the most notorious serial killers in the country and bring him to justice. It just so happens that he isn't defended by a small army, but the case is still far from "boring," especially as you descend into his cave of utter depravity.
I never had a chance to play SWAT2, how was that game on the RTS side anyway?SWAT 2 did this a bit better I think. It was pretty nice and cohesive. RoN, in comparison, is some really bizarre aimless jank.
Its been out since the 18th, it helped but the AI is still too much for the game. Devs will need to do a proper rebalance which I assume we won't get until 2024.Hotfix is out. AI seems a little better, optimization could still use some work though.
It's pretty fun but if you play it be prepared for a ton of micro. Your dudes basically don't do shit by themselves.I never had a chance to play SWAT2, how was that game on the RTS side anyway?
Huh, sounds like Gangsters Organized Crime. It's pretty fun but if you play it be prepared for a ton of micro. Your dudes basically don't do shit by themselves.
