I don't get why they think the dog comparison is so brilliant. What stops their opponent from going "Dogs are not like other animals because we've evolved to work toogether for 10.000 years?"
That argument only works if you subscribe to vegan absolutism where everything and everyone is equal or nothing is.

the obvious answer is that cats/dogs are companion animals that were domesticated for their utility (cats for pest control, dogs for hunting and protection) while cows/pigs/chickens etc are livestock that were domesticated specifically to serve as a source of food.

Most of us would eat dog meat if it was packaged right or given a marketable name (like pork for pig, venison for deer, beef for cow etc.). I wouldn't be looking at a cute innocent puppy when cooking a dog steak, I'd just be putting an oval slab of meat into the pan.
I mean look at the processed meat shit people happily eat, hot dogs are practically the worst cuts of an animal mashed up and turned into a sausage. Yet you add a bit of mustard and people will wolf them down like nothing else.

Yeah, it was aggravating to see it happen, and fuck the Dems and Republicans, as well as Biden himself, for it (only ones who did oppose were the populist wings of both party), but at the same time the unfortunate fact is that the railway companies had all the leverage in this fight because so much of the economy depends on the railroads, and if it were to not function, then the economy was going to be severely impacted. The execs knew it, and just abided their time till the government felt it was getting too close to the teeth and intervened.
