Is there a sport other than American football where a halfback is a position? Halfbacks are supposed to be pretty big because they're a jack of all trades position. Sometimes they're a running back, sometimes they're a pass option, and other times they have to block the 300 pound dudes from smashing your quarterback.
Also I think this guy really underestimates the amount of bullets that are fired in wartime. The overwhelming majority hit absolutely nobody and being 15% smaller in terms of exposed surface area really isn't going to do shit in a warzone. I'm assuming this person operates under the assumption that every shot is some dice roll like Xcom or DnD or some shit. You're far better off being fit enough to carry your entire kit all day without being fatigued because you're a twig boy

Not only that but any time you'd get hit by a bullet that would miss you if you were thinner, it would always be a glancing blow. While not a minor wound, it's not much of an added risk compared to the risk of coming into CQC as a stick figure.
