This actually made me sad. Like it made me want to cry lol. (Not really but lol)

I grew up and still live in a pretty rural part of the states and i love it. I have actually been looked down for staying and not moving to Seattle or Portland by my old friends lol.

I know there's some circumstances where people have to live in a city, but this is America. Most "small towns" have just the same basic amenities of these big cities and are a lot more enjoyable.

The fact that people choose to stay in cities like Manhattan is really beyond me.

It's like a hamster saying "no, I love this plastic little cage " while the cage is in the middle of a giant field. Weird behavior.

Umm chud when I excommunicate family members for voting differently from me it's because I'm fucking kind and empathetic okay?!

Actually I know of a lot more "woke" people that are the exact opposite of any of those words lol.

I feel like I'll get a lot of dumb arguments like "He probably was depressed all of his life and wasn't allowed to transition until now" or the typical LGBT argument where "They probably realized by that point they were trans"

People are very separated from each other nowadays.

I can see a lonely old person falling into the wrong (online) crowd because they're retired/not working as much as they used to, their kids don't talk to them/spend time with them and they can watch any type of porn on their phone after decades of Hustler and Playboy magazines (which are still bad imho, but a lot less violent than porn now)

So it's similar to middle schoolers who are lonely and confused about their place in the world that get groomed in similar ways imho.

Plus the idea of "you can start living a new life!" that trannies repeat to convince others to ruin their lives is REALLY appealing to weak-willed older people who wasted 25+ years of their lives.

They can't stay in business and it's too expensive. Chains can come in with a pre-existing business model, pre-existing jobs, and everything ready to go quickly and cheaply. I know a lot of people who talk about how much they want to support local business but will never have an opportunity to, or when they get the chance it's just not practical.

A lot of chains can afford to operate on razor thin margins, or even in the negatives. Local businesses can't. I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty some sure chains have a business model where they'll set up shop somewhere that could possibly be developed later and operate at a loss for years, just to have their foot in the door. I've seen it happen before.

There's also so many laws and regulations for running a business. Even something like a sandwich shop has so many little checkpoints, licenses, ordinances, lawsuits, you name it. It's incredibly expensive and litigious. Larger chains already have those things streamlined ready to go.

Those types of businesses do service the suburbs, typically within a mile or two (which would be within the bounds of a “fifteen-minute city”) except for maybe the largest extreme examples, but they need to service more than one subdivision in order to stay afloat so they’re primarily on the major roads leading to the subdivisions. This has the benefit of providing service at an already convenient time (i.e. when you’re traveling to or from somewhere else) while also not undermining the very compromise between immediate convenience for lack of through-traffic one makes when he chooses to live in the ‘burbs.
