Redesigning Floraverse - Because PK is a fucking idiot

Not redesigns per say, but more of a rehaul idea. If I weren't so busy with my own stuff (that I'll probably never finish ala Connor Bible) I'd love to take a shot at rewriting flora as a series of shorts in a collaboration project. Which is really what it feels like it needs to be, but not without a unifying theme or likable characters. Maybe even an illustration page of a scene to go with each one, you know?

Only problem is most of us have jobs or school; It'd be a project requiring as much as, if not more, autistic devotion than PK lavishes on her project.

So, I didn't know what the fuck this was, but someone mentioned this comic to me recently. They even compared my work to it as a compliment but now I just feel insulted. I think it was only because my work is colorful, but PK isn't the only one that took color theory one semester in college. Needless to say, I won't be reading this comic, but I'm posting here to try to remind myself when I'm feeling less lazy to join in on this because PK is utter shit at character design and it feels good to fix things. In the meantime, these changes are great and I hope to see more

It sucks to be compared to a similar artist with such a shit 'tude and tendency for devolution in their skills.

Pardon the stupid question, but they have a class dedicated to color theory alone? My art semester(s) spent not even a week on it before they then moved on to directional flow of your subject on the page/canvas.

Yeah, being compared to someone is more like a half-compliment. But I have to be nice about it. Just nod and smile.

And yes, the school I went to had an entire semester's color theory class. No other subject, just colors and how to use color (it also covered shading and lighting which was nice). So maybe I'm lucky that I did get to take something like that? But to be honest, you can just find this stuff online now with a quick google search. Though I suppose if you're a better learner in a class setting/under curriculum it may be more beneficial to take a course on it.

I don't know the story of any of these characters, but the monotone colored ones don't look to have much value variation, even though color is supposedly their forte. Truthfully, they would look better if they weren't monotone. Not saying to completely fuck with the colors, but adding another color that ISN'T pink to some of these characters would make them more interesting to look at. I fucking love hot pink, but even I know when enough is enough.

It probably also depends on what the professors deems important, too. Mine were insistent on 1. (The old white guys) Carrying the eye through the piece is key also complimentary colors and no muddiness! and 2. ( The Korean lady) Illustration makes me feel nothing so it is not fine artalso you spent twelve hours total on this hyper realistic tree? Lol Do it again or you get a C.

Which all of that, too, is probably also available online in some flavor or other.that being said, I get why PK dropped it. But at least learn your shit enough to break the rules, you know?

Edit- I mean Bob Ross used godawful ugly colors and his shit looked fucking tight. So it's not like you can't make the whole color wheel your bitch.

That's something I've been tempted to do for a long time; with keeping the character's identities mostly as is, but doing them properly (so an agender, asexual Beleth would actually be agender and not have a sex drive; trans man Jasamby would have body dysphoria, so even if he was still effeminate it wouldn't be like...that. Etc.). But that's the thing I have a life. So it never seemed worth it to put that much effort into a rehaul of someone else's work, when I have my own stories I want to create. If multiple people worked on it though, that could lessen the load and make it more viable a project. If people wanted to do it seriously.

Hello there, pal, and welcome to our attempt at redesigning a catastrophe (lmao)!
If you're referring to the newer pages of the comic, none of the characters are actually monochrome. It took me about two months to realize this because the palette.

I've been wanting to do this too but alas, time is something scarce to me nowadays. However I do have some Floraverse designs here and there that are drawn from boredom. Perhaps if I could find them, I'll scan and post them.

I found the designs but only had the confidence to post three. I'm not good at furries in general so bare with me here. They are very sloppy sketches so I am very sorry for that.

I decided to keep the cuteness of Orobas alone but changed a bit in her character:

• I gave her some more clothes to look somewhat more like a witch. A also removed those awful seed/flower things from her hair, and made the heart more obvious through her clothing. I made her tail less like a cat tail and gave her donkey ears because I thought the donkey ears fit her more than the horse ones - they also kind of look cuter to me.
• She is more of a witch. Now explain to me why a witch goes to a puppet for a potion? They don't. They make their own potions. I made her have the hat she lacked for so many pages now. Orobas now makes potions and spells.
• Orobas is a transfemale and doesn't slap her penis on everything she sees.
• Speaking of, Something Greater has scarred my sight on everything having to do with Amudsias. So, I decided to make her secretly manipulative but remaining friends with Amudsias instead of lovers. After the rape in that, I don't see chemistry.
• Orobas is secretly the real antagonist, despite being a pacifist.

With Beleth I went with the design I made earlier in the thread. They are an emperor king stuck in the body of a plush toy. Their mouth, like most plushies, do not move and hands are plush cat paws. They talks through magically powers. They have a simpler design like most plushies for easy manufacturing. Their clothes are unchangeable, so, to try and make themselves look more regal, they added a cape and crown, though due to being the hothead they are, the cape is torn.

Now who is this Emmitt guy and why is he here? Well, long story short, he's a character I drew because I got really bored of redrawing characters from a terrible story. Let's explain some stuff about this... abomination.

• While reading the entirety of the thread on PurpleKecleon, there was a joke about a cishet relationship in Flora. It was basically something like "Claude and Jackie, after being in an abusive relationship, found love in each other's arms. They are raising money to move to a new webcomic." That's where the idea of this Emmitt fueled by autism came from.
• Emmitt is blind because one day is mom told him not to go outside, there is blinding magenta out there. Emmitt didn't listen and went outside. The blinding colors of pinks and purple made him blind because it was just too much.
• He is a detective. He works with rape victims because I bet in Flora, they are everywhere.

Justice is blind.

I imagine I'll get a good few autism ratings.

This thread is really neat! Is it exclusively redesigns of characters though or would it be okay to post expression and color edits, too? (as in, fixing bean mouths and making Beleth actually red etc) Since I enjoy doing those and I'm not super great at designing.

Actually, I agree. The redesigns improve the characters, that much is true, but it’s not enough to improve the series as a whole; its plot needs a complete, and I truly do mean complete, reboot.

I remember reading the prologue to Floraverse and thinking it kinda neat. It’s a pretty dramatic opening for a webcomic, but it’s so vague that it’s interesting, somehow.
It made me think about Seeds, too—what are they, and why are they so important? Why do demons from Hellside try to steal them from the main characters?

My train of thought continued from there, and I’ve come up with a pretty solid rewrite of the series premise.

What if, in PK’s original concept, the prologue was foreshadowing the eventual death of the new universe; Min and Cress’ home?
But what of the seeds?
Perhaps these seeds were what remained of the original “God” of the prologue—who turns into a large flower near the end of the comic.

Perhaps the new universe, the Godless universe (assuming it was erased along with everything else), is about to be possessed and dominated by the Angels terrorizing Hellside, and the only way to stop this from happening is for the universe to be stopped in its tracks and rewritten.
The only way for this to be able to happen is for the seeds that Min and Cress carry to be planted at a specific location; this will ressurrect the being that created our universe and sacrificed us—as well as itself—to start anew. Its ressurrection in turn will cause the destruction of their home, saving it from a fate worse than death.

The timeline stuff that PK loves so much can still be implemented, as well.
In Floraverse, we see many creatures that are trying to put spanners in the works of our main characters. What if one of them was an Angel in disguise, trying to stop them from advancing, to further its own cause?
When it seems as if all hope is lost forever, perhaps there is a moment where they are saved by being warped back into the past, allowing them to try again to deliver the seeds and create God.

Of course, my imagination is running wild, and I’m sure not everything may sound as coherent as I imagined it to be (ain’t got a way with words), but I had fun plotting regardless, even if it may look like a pile of horse shit.

I can’t believe I took the time to rewrite a plot for a webseries I don’t even follow.
