Regarding the apparent and imminent repeal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and the future of this website.

Probably not.

Web sites themselves are an outmoded form of communication.

They started as digital brochures before turning into glorified forums, chat rooms and ATM machines. With panoptic surveillance capabilities.

We'll remember them the way we remember Penny Dreadfuls.
It fulfills peoples' desires for permanence, if you think people will just migrate to fleeting of-the-moment communication totally, you don't know people.
Penny Dreadfuls are just cheap shitty books, I still see cheap shitty books around. Books weren't replaced by TV.

Josh, go find your waifu. It’s been some glorious years of freedom laughing at fats and tards, but it’s time you leave this behind, get a coding job and have a couple mini-Joshes/Joshettes. ❤️ The desire to fight a losing battle dissipates in the best of us and there is only so much one man can do. Life has to be balanced, it can’t only be stressful - and maybe you can keep your podcast going? The one about Honey Booboo was a thing of beauty.

I’ll go through withdrawal but I’ve been around the withdrawal block a time or two so I know I’ll survive.

All I ask is you give us a couple days warning; this site kept me from going crazy during Covid and I no longer follow politics so whatever happens with this legislation I won’t hear about. I’ll have to dig up my crafty shit and some extra Valium for the first week when W/Ds are the worst so will need a few days.As will we all.

Godspeed, my fellow Kiwis. If this is indeed the end, it’s been fun ride.

I don't think this specific attempt will go down the way Trump and you expect it to, the moment this is taken to any court or justice body it will be ruled that Section 230 has jack to do with the military and the veto will be overruled.

Calm down Josh, you're starting to sound like Tim Pool.
The supreme court can't overrule a presidential veto. That's not how the constitution works. The only thing that can overrule a veto is a two-thirds vote in congress.

All the 8chan refugees that flocked here because they thought the farms were a pro-trump hugbox are now on suicide watch. In all seriousness though this is fucking AIDS. Ever since Section 230 began to be a center of discussion the narrative of it being “the communist law that lets twitter ban me for being right wing” has been spread around and it’s infuriating. Section 230 getting repealed is only going to make sites like Twitter and Facebook become even more empowered to hyper-censor their platforms to the degree that even Youtube in its current form will look like 4chan’s early days by comparison.

What is the solution to twitter and others being the privately owned Ministry of Truth™?

Many people aren't convinced when all they hear is "this ain't it" without a suggestion of a more realistic solution. This coming from someone who agrees the oligarch controlled aristocrats as they are right now will likely only let something through if it would go in the direction null fears.

But again, what do we do? I get the sense many who pretend to be against the left and their army of troons are actually more or less complicit, due to laziness or otherwise.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't aggressive internet cenorship been happening while was Trump president? Why is Congress trying to rush through a law that limits free speech before Trump gets evicted on January 20th?
The aggressive internet censorship's come from those running sites, and there's an already-written replacement for Section 230 which actually does go more for protecting free speech.

I mean, we could just go with "With great (editorial) power comes great responsibility" and still have something better than what we've got already for protecting free speech. Unless you seriously think we're not a bunch of free-range birds?

Face your fate and become SomethingAwful 2.0 you nigger. Even pillhead LowT was willing to jettison the filez and porn parts of the site to keep it going.
Bro, Lowtax was already acting like an enormous faggot by 2005.
Never forget what happened in 2006 when Lowtax went on a banspree since /b/ and goons found out Shmorky had a very decadent past
Or when Ubisoft threatened him with a C&D over an Assassins Creed lewd comic being posted in 2007 and Lowtax didn't understand he was a US citizen and not fucking French so thought he actually could get in trouble for violating some French law.

My god you people are acting real pathetic. Getting all sentimental and sounding like you're on the verge of tears over the possibility of the site going down.

I know it sucks, but you guys need to go down with some dignity at least.
Sorry I'm not acting more dignified to look cool in the eyes of fellow weirdos on this site where we laugh at retards.
