Regarding the apparent and imminent repeal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and the future of this website.

This whole section 230 feels like a trump using a nuke to kill a couple of people, i'm all for big tech getting rammed for the shit they done during his presidency but this was so poorly thought out, it shows they at the end of the day he was an amateur.
It's not just him though. The fact that nobody in his cabinet/party the first time he went on his Section 230 twitter rant went up to him and told him he was a fucking idiot makes things even worse. I haven't seen one politician that has openly spoken out about how this is a bad thing and nobody should be touching it.

You can't purposefully create a self defense situation then defend your actions in that situation as self defense (under US law, from what I understand).
So if someone gets the idea "hey, i'll call joggers niggers until they try to attack me, then I'll just shoot em", he'll be charged and convicted with 1st degree murder (and probably a hate crime and get the death sentence in many states). So fighting words can't just be something that people take offense to, it needs to have the intention of creating conflict.

I don't know what this means. Explain it to me like I'm 5.
A presidential veto can be overriden with a 2/3s vote (aka 66 votes). So even if Trump vetos, it'll be pointless because the senate can push it through anyway.

Ok. So what's the NDAA and how does it relate to Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act?

Trump was saying he'd veto the NDAA if they didn't include something about repealing 230. Unless I missed them adding that in, the Senate just told him to shove it up his ass by passing it with a veto-proof majority.

I haven't posted much, but I've enjoyed serving with you, ladies and gentlemen.

I'm somewhat fond of most of you. Semper fi, and if we go down, maybe we'll meet again in the dark corners of the internet...

The Senate even has a rule against nongermane amendments, i.e. throwing in random shit like this. Trump is such a mongoloid he probably doesn't even know that though.

Why are people still freaking out about this? The whole concern was that the senate would repeal section 230 to appease Trump so he'd sign the NDAA. They didn't do that, and as the OP says, the NDAA vote got a veto proof majority so Trump can't do anything. Can people not read or am I missing something?

So the Simpsons lied to me and you just can't attach a rider to give 30 million dollars to support the perverted arts?

The freakout was before it was clear that the senate would have overwhelming support for the bill and that a veto would be moot.
However, Biden has said he'd like to see 230 gone or remedied (I think he wants to crack down on hate speech/doxxing/etc), so even if Trump's Tantrum whimpers out, the site isn't out of the woods.

I don't know about that. There's been a lot of "aaahhh!" from people even up to today, long after the NDAA vote happened.

Meh. Even if the Democrats win both Georgia senate seats (which they probably won't) they would still need 60+ votes to overcome the fillibuster. And if both parties combined had the votes for it now, I think they would have just done it now instead of waiting for Biden. I'm interested in section 230 staying intact as much as everyone else but I also think some people need to settle down.

No one wants to do it now because it would be giving into Trump's Tantrum, and it would interfere with the defense bill, the most important bill to congress.
I think its possible that if Biden brought up a repeal in a more reasonable way it'd have a fair chance to go through. Also if dems get the two seats in the senate, they'll control it (because Harris will be a tie breaker). And i think they've said they want to expand the SC to counter the Republican control that happened under Trump. So they'd control everything.

Yeah but then Joe Manchin from West Virginia would be the swing vote, who is extremely moderate and already went on Fox to tell everyone that he wouldn't expand the Supreme Court and wouldn't vote to end the filibuster. So even if they win both seats, it changes nothing.

I'm gonna try to stay optimistic for the time being and think kiwi will pull through somehow. But if this site does go down, it's been a pleasure being here, this site brought me lots of laughs about retards on the internet. Just wished I would've interacted more instead of just lurking past few years ;;
