I love RE4 and all (because I like anti-RE games), but that's how RE6 happened.
And y'all can bite my ass, I stand on the hill RE6 is the best one in the series. Perfectly cheese, with just enough stress of enemies to touch the 'horror' aspect, without trying too hard and plummeting face first into discount Outlast faggotry like 7 and 8. Edit: Not to mention *actually* fun to play.

My wild guesses of what I see most likely being cut:
Enemies:
-Novistadors, don't appear that much in RE4 outside of two or maybe three sections focusing on them, being nonhumanoid only hurts their chances of making an appearance, could reuse assets from the Drain Deminos from RE3make however.
-The knights Ashley encounters in her section. Since it appears to have been moved to the area around the Village (unless we still get to play as her in the Castle) it will end up being cut, don't even think you face them as Leon.
-Obligatory cut boss, U3, since it's would be the easiest to cut since it's the most "out of left field" boss, as it's foreshadowed only right before you fight it, and the Salamander boss was shown during the trailer.

Cut locations: (They cut Clock Tower plus the Park for RE3, damn near anything is on the table)
-Second half of the Castle will get cut down, lava rooms will be removed
-MechaSalazzar is definitely going to get cut thanks to the more serious tone
-Island will probably be half as long as it was

I know this was taken out of team that made RE3make's hands (although they did a good job with the actual game and the fact Capcom rushed the game out caused it to end up how it did, and would bet money NEST 2 was also a result of being rushed) but RE4 is easily the longest game in the series outside of RE6, so it has more to cut.

Not going to get too hung up on if only a couple things get left on the cutting room floor, but I'm still worried they're going to cut so much you can easily beat it in 6 or so hours on first playthrough with 1/4th of the enemy roster nowhere to be found.

Best? Nah, most of it's a generic action shooter with a thin horror veneer. On the other hand, what it does right, and there are parts it gets right, it does really damn well. RE6 had a lot of potential, but Capcom just had to be Capcom.

The nicest thing I'll say about RE6 is Tall Trees is kind of a cool setting for how Racoon City esque it is.

An RE4 style game in a Racoon City esque setting was a good idea and I remember correctly guessing after RE4 we'd see something like that one day, the trouble is Capcom didn't focus on that, they had two other major settings, even just having Leon in one place and Chris in another would have worked, but then they added a whole THIRD locale with China.

It was obvious that Capcom had multiple ideas for 6 and instead of picking one they decided to cram everything in, it really can't be emphasized enough how singularly wonky RE6's pacing is, after beating Leon and Chris's campaigns I felt like I had beaten two games already and didn't have it in me to go through it again a third and even forth time, no other game is like that and it's a terrible way to pace a game.

And the story really is profoundly stupid.

The whole game is just a mess, had Capcom just focused on fleshing out Tall Trees as the setting and written a better script it could have been decent.

What worries me about REmake 4 is how much they’ll cut. It’s a game that’s nearly 3x the length of the original RE2 or RE3. And for a game as short as RE3, they still cut a lot of content. Now best case scenario is that they cut very little content and remake separate ways as well, but that won’t happen. Capcom likes to make hilariously short games in recent years. If you wanna play a game you can beat in a day, play a capcom game. It’s ridiculous.

That's what worries me too. RE4 is basically the longest RE game and took like 20 hours to beat. My one hope is that Capcom is aware of how much people criticized the fact that they cut so much out of the RE3 remake (especially considering that the original was a relatively short game) and learned their lesson from that first go around. The original RE4 didn't have any unique mechanics like the zapping system from RE2 or the Decision Points from RE3, so they, at least, won't cut out any unique mechanics.

Really not interested in a Re4 that "thats a darker tone". Especially when the original is very available and very playable. Especially not interested when a re4 clone like Calisto protocol is coming out the same year, especially when that Re4 clone is made by the people who made the best re4 clones, dead space 1 & 2.

I don't think cutting content is bad so long as the content being cut wasn't the best in the original. Along with that, adding new stuff like they did in the REmake (Lisa, the dogs not crashing through the window, etc.) would make it a lot better. U3 is a not a boss I'd cry about if he's cut, and if they want to make it more serious than the original I think it's only reasonable that the sillier stuff like MechaSalazar, the dragon platforms in the lava rooms, and the hallway drilling machine get cut out.

Novistadors are really neat during the introduction but they overstay their welcome later in the Castle when they just swarm and kick half your health away.

I wouldn't be surprised if the entire Island portion gets repurposed. It was Saturday morning cartoon villain level of corniness as shit in the original.

I liked U3, it was tense and hectic playing it the first time. MechaSalazar and the silly stuff could work in a more serious setting, they are childlike ideas that adds to Salazar, a character who is cruel, crazy and childlike.

I do agree, when first playing REmake 2 I was quite surprised how you could speedrun it quite easily once finished. Same thing with REmake 3, it's becoming a trend for Capcom to do such things.

There is one thing RE4 really excels at. Replayability. All weapon upgrades are distinct and its fun to replay the campaign with different loadouts. I hope they won't go the RE8 way of just having the last weapon available the best gun to use.
