Supposed RE9 leaks from a site I've never heard of, sounds like bullshit but it popped up in my newsfeed.
"Finally, you'll be assisted by a female bioweapon called Hulder acting as your guide."
This would be a bit too on the nose though. If they really went all out with that reference it suggests that there is a Mr. X/Nemesis type of character involved. Probably with one eye.
But like I said it sounds like bullshit.
There's enough plausible details to sound like it could have come from the planning stage. But Apocalypse is not going to be the final title, they wont risk brand confusion with the movies.
There's a lot of ideas I really like here. Mixing RE with the "Thing" sounds like a winning formula, Especially if a dialogue system was implemented or some way of communication. I love the idea of something terrifying happening mid conversation.
It would be incredible if the natives spoke in a disturbing accent, or were barely understandable like the example above. That would really heighten the paranoia and tension. Bonus points if they implement friendly fire and you have to be very careful of who you shoot for a good ending or two.
Barricading as a central feature sounds plausible, as it was flirted with quite a bit in the opening of 8, although it needed more work.
Im hoping they better balance the Mr X type character. I want something that inspires a fuck ton of fear and dread, but doesn't get immediately taken out after the first act like 7 and 8. There may be methods of circumventing or losing it in the woods, but it needs to be something that stays a random threat till the half way point at least.
It sounds semi open world, something like Evil within 2 would be perfect.
This would be a bit too on the nose though.
The last game had Heisenberg as a character. At this point, it could be an x-files reference.
So I have finished the Netflix show a few days ago, and ive been too dam busy with work to put together a proper review, but all and all I enjoyed it.
Aside from maybe the first 10- 20 mins of episode 1, the script doesn't feel woke, and the character interactions felt genuine and interesting. Really it's biggest problem is A: it ends on a cliffhanger for a season 2 we probably wont get, and B It's so.... oddly ambitious and over the top at the same time. You'll have moments were the actors are being genuine, acting their hearts out, and then they'll just say some dumbass shit. I loved those lines, as most of the time they came from teenagers and megalomaniacs, but I can see why that would put some people off. And the dialogue is not constant enough for it to be a popcorn fest. Sometimes You'll have 30 mins of a straight faced scene and then someone will say "I fucking love spongebob" or its the other way around. They'll start the ep with a dumbass line and then proceed to become a stright zombie teen/post apocalyptic adult drama for the rest of its run time.
Most of the over the top narmy shit happens in the last 2 episodes, with the clones, blade wesker, and the starship troopers action, but that's all wedged into a story about two sisters losing their innocence and surviving in a shithole future.
The split narrative worked pretty well for keeping things interesting, Basically you have your slow burn origin story of teen angst split between action scenes in the future. I thought they handled it well. It does rob drama somewhat you know certain characters are going to turn evil or die in the future segments before it happens, but I still liked the presentation.
There are a lot of story elements I like. The idea of wesker cloning himself, and then the clone makes a family is ridiculous shit, but they do it well. Lance absolutely kills it, the kids were good actors. The future Jade and young jade matched up so well, I didn't actually realize they were separate actors for a long ass time.
Aside from a viewer not agreeing with the direction, script or presentation, the only truly 'bad" actor would have to be the kid who's Jade's daughter in the future. Wooden as shit. You've got one scene of Jade crying her guts out on the other side of a door, meanwhile her kid looks bored.
The overall alt universe lore is fascinating to me as well
In the past and future Umbrella more or less won. They've cut back on openly making bioweapons and are actually trying to get into the drug market. Although the drugs do contain a tiny amount of T-virus. (Tiny enough that you'd have to take it a couple thousand times to turn into a zombie) The endgoal is making drugs that render the subject highly susceptible to commands and advertisements, although they are still putting some points into BOW development. Presumably all the RE heros are dead or in hiding because Umbrella is a household name and raccoon city still happened. In the future umbrella is on crack when it comes to all their technology and heavy weapons. Not that it really matters when they all get butt fucked by zombies and lickers, but they did make cool holographic displays and drones with bottomless magazines so kuddos to that.
I liked how It had the balls to use Giant T virus infected animals no matter how ridiculous they looked. The crocodile at the end gets special mention. The whole procedure for deploying that thing like nuclear weapon was hilarious from beginning to end.
Overall Id recommend checking out the first 2 or 3 episodes before you decide to hate it. It's not as funny or over the top as the more recent movies, but it does go for broke when it comes to making a (relatively) serious zombie story.
