Thing about weeb horror novels is that they need to have good writing for it to scare me, because unless you can create something of Junji Ito's caliber, the anime art style ain't gonna cut it for me. Corpse Party worked because of how explicit it is, it goes deep into describing how someone is getting killed, their last words, their thoughts, the entire process of being eviscerated... Sometimes it goes for *too* long, but that helps in making you feel uncomfortable.

However... CP tries to scare you with it's art, too. That's a fail for me:

This shit aint scary, it's goofy. No matter how wide you draw their smiles or how small their irises, anime girls just arent scary. Theyre specifically designed to be cute.

Im currently playing Resident Evil 6 again after so many years and i still like it

No, I'd say it took itself seriously, especially in the beginning. The fact that it came across as cheesy was never intended.
I mean fair enough. The translation caused a lot of the goofy bullshit in the first few.

The plots and lore game to game was always taken seriously until the numakes started being shit out.

"It's a weapon. It's really powerful, especially against living things!"

I've been replaying Director's cut as Jill and it's good, but it always cracks me up that one moment she sounds so merry and chirpy, and the scene right after she's either on the verge of tears or completely monotone.

I'm going through REmake again. One of the few weakpoints in it is just how fucking dull the acting is in it. And it feels really out of place with how dark the atmosphere of the rest of the game is, especially in comparison to the original.

Eh, I didn't mind it that much, especially Jill. For me REmake's version is THE Jill Valentine, stoic, disciplined and cold at times.

On the topic of voice acting, another gem for me was Alison Court's Claire in the original RE2 - when she catches the Chief about the rape a corpse and in the most normal, reassuring tone of the world is all like "Calm down chief". Shit was hilarious.

Playing through RE6 again, about to finish Ada's story and the game overall.

I have to mention... This game made me realize how much i like these characters. They're so simple, but effective. Entertaining as hell

Leon the smartass with the one liners and the John Connor hairdo,

Chris is elevated by the memes, but he keeps playing into them without meaning to and that makes him endearing.

Ada is such a pure femme fatale archetype, its awesome. This game is almost a time capsule, you get to see her naked at least twice and theres no shame nor any soyish excusing to it.

Even some newcomers like Jake and adult Sherry are likeable. Piers was good too but they couldve showcased the whole "disillusioned with Captain Chris" angle a bit more to make things interesting. Helena got shafted, by the end of the story you forget what her purpose was, and her personality is just "one of the good ones."

Think i'm realizing now that a huge reason why i'm a fan of this series is because of the characters and the setting itself first, and the actual games second.

Re 4 is 50 bucks with every dlc included right now. Should I bite the bullet or wait until the winter sales?
Probably actually a gamble. There's no guarantee it gets put up again during the Winter sales, but there's also no guarantee that it won't.

Nvm, the deluxe edition is 50. I'll wait another year until it goes to 20.

Edit: The PS5 ver. is 30 ish on Best Buy, but I don't want to buy physical PS5 games anymore because those can require a system update. That's a no no if you want to mod it when possible.

Helena was suppose to be Claire, but Capcom didn't want to use her because she was already in a Revelations game and they thought it would "oversaturate" the market with her image, or some dumb shit like that.

Where was this stated, for the record? I want to be able to aggravate a friend with this information if I can verify it.

Makes sense. She looked like she stole Claire's clothes the same way Lando stole Han's clothes at the end of TESB.

Talk about misreading the room, doubt anyone would complain about seeing Claire too much.

That change might've been done after the college stage in Leon's story, cause they throw a couple references to the Raccoon City incident and there's an awkward "romantic tension" moment between him and Helena... When the two have known each other for just half an hour, and after that, the topic is never brought up again.

Okay, I've been searching and I cannot for the life of me find where I heard that from. Swear I did, but I know that "trust me bro" isn't something anybody should rely on. My apologies, so take it with a fucking huge grain of salt or disregard completely.
