I got RE3make as part of an RE bundle, and the most fun thing in that was how laughably evil Nicholai was
The thing I love is how he immediately hates Jill.

And what's his plan? Genuinely unclear. Jill getting infected with the parasite. Was that... good for him? He could've just shot her in the face like every other PMC ghoul. It’s kind of incredible because this is the only remake I can think of where they added screentime to a character and somehow deleted their reason to be there.

He's recording Jill fighting Nemmy on handheld like this is TMZ.

ASSHOLE. YOU ALREADY GOT PAID, THERE'S A NUKE EN ROUTE AND YOU ARE SHOOTING A YOUTUBE SHORT FROM CHERNOBYL.

I think they were going for some kind of dynamic where Nikolai becomes Nemesis’ handler, but the writing is shit.

I just really like the voice/actor. He seems to be having fun with it but not taking the piss in an ironic, post-modern-y millenial way. Generally aside from rem4ke* (and maybe REmake2) I've always found the voice acting to be quite good.

And looking him up realise that he was Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3. He's doing quite well for himself.

*It's funny because the broad they got to do Ada in the remake of 4 was so atrocious it's the first time in a long time that I actually stopped what I was doing and went, holy shit that was bad in a straight up bad acting sense as opposed to hammy or corny.

I like Newbon's performances; sometimes he slips into a Transatlantic accent that seems out of place at times, but he's really good at playing douchebags.

I've also got an ear out for Nicole Tompkins (who voices Jill in RE3make and Daniela Dimitrescu in Village)

Nicholai's the based Russian who knows how to turn a profit in trying times. Shame he was never expanded on or made any resurgences in later installments.

Hola, me llamo Nathaniel Bard.

I’ve always looked at Nikolai and the rest as basically the Wildberries.ru version of S.T.A.R.S.: they get parachuted into a meat grinder and of course, just like in RE1, their leader is the mole who sets more traps. It's the same plot, but now it’s happening in a whole city.

You can also play as Nikolai in Mercenaries mode, and his campaign is the most unfair, which deepens the Wesker parallel.

I do hope they eventually revisit the "BSAA becomes evil and starts using BOWs as soldiers" plotline from RE8, that was basically the only interesting part of the mold saga.

I can’t believe I’m only just now putting together that Jill slept through the entire zombie apocalypse. What a stupid ass game.

I assumed it wasnt THAT bad in her location yet but then again, Jill would have gotten out as soon the first signs started to show. The original game implies it all went down that fast and that the streets around the building were too intense to leave just yet (iirc, Jill's plan was to book it for the police station, gear up and then fight her way out which was def. easier said than done).

But yeah, the remake is poopy.
I clearly have no idea what you're talking about. ;)

I'd love to see him make a significant reappearance (preferably with playability) in a good game, even if it's not a main installment.

Closest thing we got was a document in Survivor that references him (confirming his survival route is canon) but not sure if that counts anymore as the remake version obviously sets up for him to have died (and I hope this doesnt lead into another "oh, he totally did, he had those choppers he had totally the key to or he hotwired and escaped even tho Jill and Chris just barely outsped the explosion range" )

I did much prefer when he did escape because it is a reminder that not every villain gets a climatic karma death but the remake did intend for him to be dead (and no Wesker's survival aint the fucking same, shut up)

He ended up getting wounded, but my headcanon is that he somehow managed to survive like the rat he is to cause more havoc.

In other news, if anyone's in Seattle at the end of the month, Capcom is rolling out a playable demo for RE9 at PAX.

Fun thing are the RE novels. In the Re2 novel it starts with Jill collecting some clothes from her apartment a few days before shit hits the fan (they were already worried about the resurgence of "zombie attacks"). Chris meets her and they discuss their plan once again (leaving for Europe to attack Umbrella there). It also mentions that Brad basically fled right after the evens of RE1 because of the intense media pressure as the STARS unit was painted as incompetent (basically their first real mission during the "cannibal attacks" gets the majority of the unit killed). Then comes the novel for RE3 and Jill stayed behind to gather some more intel and suddenly shit hits the fan cutting her of while Brad is also still in the city. Like my dude, consistency much? And according to the RE3 novel Nikolai's plan was more of a "gather data" but also he himself planned to kill all other Umbrella "cover agents" so only he would have data (maybe even samples or the antidote) to sell to Umbrella making him rich.

There's also mangas for RE6, RE:TUC, & RE:R2/RE:UC. They're actually pretty fun reads too.

I saw Dagon for the first time about five years ago, and I thought of RE4 almost immediately. It even takes place in Spain (a fishing village in Spain, to be more exact).

Nobody here is talking about the trailer for 9 that dropped or the demo that's been going around YouTube.

I'm immediately more invested in this than village, getting a sequel to outbreak is nice. Going back to raccoon city is definitely an option. The monster from the demo definitely is interesting. Looks less resident evil, more Trevor Henderson.
