CONFIRMED REFERENCES:
* In Leon's B scenario, one of the guns you can find is
a .45 pistol. It's implied to be the one
used by Kevin Ryman from Outbreak, or at least the same model.
* Numerous characters from Outbreak are mentioned in files - most notable of these is Rita; Rita was a female cop who helped survivors escape the RPD building in Outbreak: File #2 by going under the statue and going for help. Marvin got left behind, however, the original scene showing him stumble back to where Leon finds him in RE2:
Rita's desk is in the remake, with her desk part of the puzzle you need to unlock Leon's desk.
* The Tunnel under the statue in Outbreak: File #2's Desperate Times scenario plays a major role in Resident Evil 2's remake.
* One of the things you can do in RE2's Remake is find and shoot Mr. Raccoon statues, which are similar to the Blue Medallions from Resident Evil 4. There's a memo near the very first one that details that this was the Raccoon City Zoo mascot. Mr. Raccoon was mentioned and shown in the very first level of Outbreak: File #2, and has not been seen since.
POTENTIAL REFERENCES:
* The Lickers much more closely resemble the ones from Outbreak than the ones from RE2. These ones are hallmarked by narrower bodies, smaller profiles, and thinner claws, but these ones are much stronger than their predecessors from Chapter 4 of Outbreak: File #1, and these ones aren't likely to be taken down by a sledgehammer made from a pipe and chunk of concrete.
* Raymond Douglas, the shotgun-armed police officer from Outbreak: File #1 that dies in the first scenario, purportedly has his photo in the downstairs office on a poster. I have yet to confirm this, so this one goes here. He was listed as the Deputy police chief in Outbreak: File #2.
PROBABLY NOT INTENTIONAL REFERENCES, BUT NEAT:
* The intro area you run past with Claire/Leon in the A scenario in order to get to the police station passes an area that looks a lot like the building whose main gate Jill blew open with explosives in Resident Evil 3. The nearby alley also resembles a similar alley Jill has to go down, but parts of it are fenced off and it's missing a door, which is why I moved this one here.
* Part of the area that you have to run from in the intro to get to the station has you run across a massive stretch of road beyond which there is a fucking inferno. I am like 39% sure this is a reference to the intro area in Outbreak where they cut the Zombies off with explosives, but since nothing is explicably said I gotta move it here.
* The way Zombies can break open doors is actually almost
identical to how they did so in Outbreak. I realize that "Zombies Breaking Down Doors" isn't exactly new territory in
any survival horror game, but the sheer similarity to how it works in Outbreak is pretty cool.
* You could board up Windows and doorways in Outbreak if you had both planks and a nailgun. You can barricade windows in the remake and you don't even need a Nailgun this time.
