The only valid complaint is the removal of some of the branching choices. Although they added something else, with richard, that was not in the Og. I personally would add the lack of an option to skip loading doors.
Everything else is nonsense. What do you mean you cant turn off one dangerous zombie? You have to select a new game, to start that mode.

That dates back to the original game - basically once that mode's active in the original you can't shut it off without deleting your saves. It's permanently on for all further playthroughs of the game in the Gamecube release. Did you want to do a standard run with the items you unlocked? Too bad, he's there. In the re-releases you can just start a new game without it, but this wasn't the case for the Gamecube release - just one of many changes the re-releases made (like the removal of the Ammo Glitch and fixing of some other bugs).

You must of been hanging out around the RE uber fan communities, such as they were, at the time. Even when the game was re-released I didn't hear too many complaints. But, like I said, most people probably don't remember the complaints from that time because it stood the test of time as a good game (outside of the usual shit to complain about like tank controls), and you will be hard pressed to find a Resident Evil fan who doesn't like it now. Meanwhile, RE 6 is, and will always be, remembered as being shit.

The compliments way outweighed the negativity, but that shit was there.

RE6, however, is shit. On this there is consensus.

Oh, I figured it wouldnt effect all the other modes, since you had to select it. Was the bug present in all versions of the gamecube version? Because I dont remember that being the case in the pal version, but I could be wrong.
Did people really bitch about the upped difficulty? Had they not realized you could actually select the difficulty, unlike in the original 96 release? (Aside from the whole jill, chris selection)

the one-hit-kill Ivys are some bullshit. Fire is your best friend there. Go slow in the Greenhouse, keep your distance, and charbroil any of those motherfuckers blocking your path. Knowing the lock codes beforehand will make that sequence a lot less of a headache.
Ya know, you can kill the Ivy's and conserve your fuel/needles by popping those orange cysts with a few well placed handgun shots. Popping at least one of them is also enough to run past them.
It's how I managed to beat 4th Survivor with most of my inventory to spare.

Yeah, it was only the initial western launch versions that had that "feature" in it. They had a few beneficial bugs too, like the aforementioned ammo glitch (Jill could get infinite GL ammo) and the Dagger glitch, the latter of which was patched out of all later releases and the former of which was removed from the re-releases.

People bitched less about the difficulty itself and more about the nebulous way it was handled on your first run (should be self-explanatory, but you know the internet) and the way encounters and scripting could fuck you if you weren't careful. Most looked at this as a good thing, since the remake gave you almost as much as it took away and this boosted tension considerably, but there was a few autists making the case that it made the game too hard.

Funnily-enough, it is actually possible to choose an easier difficulty in RE1, however, in all versions, with different effects:

In the Director's Cut variants, you can play a version where enemies have half health and ammo drops are doubled. To do so, hold right on the d-pad on the mode select screen. If you do, the selecting text will turn green and you now can play easy mode.

In the original, there *is* sort of an easy mode, but it's only available for Jill and requires a bit of finegling. To do so, when Barry tells you to go look for clues, head back to the main hall and talk to Wesker. Attempt to do so again and Barry will say "Lost your courage already? That's not like you." Approach the alarm clock and the Zombie will get tired of waiting and enter the dining room, triggering the scene where Barry kills it and some different dialogue. Doing this sets things up so the game is negligably easier due to some minor tweaks.

mhh, I knew about the director's cut option for an easy mode, but didn't actually know that doing that process with jill, actually lowered the difficulty of the Whole game instead of just the start.

Still, the biggest flaw of the remake was the lack of an option to skip doors. The DS remake had it, but not the gamecube? pretty random.
Also yeah, some kind of battle mode would have helped with variety.

Most people probably won't take the time to line up handgun shots, and the damn things move so erratically that, for most, its not even worth it. The Flamethrower works just as well. You will pretty much never run out of fuel for it, unless you just use it like a maniac, so its one of the most reliable weapons in the game.

Is that in the Wii version of the game? That's the one I have.

Nope. Was fixed by then. It's Gamecube only and only the initial launch versions. The reason is that that game does the Silent Hill 1 thing where it reads your memory card while the game is starting up. If you have the proper saves, the game already starts with the altered title sequences, so in all future replays, Suicide Forrest is waiting for you.

One of my favorite game series ever, I have played every game in the series ( except some of the gun survivor games and some random arcade and pachinko games) My favorites are Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 7. the first time I played it was 2 for the N64 which is a very good port (they crammed 2 disc worth of content on 1 N64 cart and while it has some fuzzy music and is missing Extreme Battle mode which was added in the later PSX version , its an impressive version) I loved 3 a bit more because I loved how it played and the Nemesis mechanic was so great (I am hyped with the REmake of 3, especially after the Mr.X segments of REmake 2) I beat Resident Evil 3 so much I got the special message from Shinji Mikami ( I hope they don't mess with Jill's look in the remake) 4 is a classic through and through and I have beaten it on the Gamecube, PS3 and PS4 , It literally changed how horror and some action games were made for over a decade. 7 was a fresh take on the series and is a fun blend of FPS game and First Person horror, I loved the story and I loved how it didn't have anything to do with the other games( until the end) The dlc was good and I loved playing as Joe Baker. Remake 1 is without a doubt one of the best gaming remakes ever and managed to take everything RE 1 did and improve it. I love it I need play the Chris campaign sometime . Sorry for my autism rambling , I just love this series

I hope they don't mess with Jill's look in the remake

I wouldn't get my hopes up. Ever since they got this new, realistic looking game engine, Capcom have gone out of their way to redesign every damn character they can get their hands on, especially the female ones. They did it to Chris in RE 7, they did it to everyone in DMC 5 and they did it to Leon, Claire and Ada in REmake 2. I don't imagine Jill will escape these changes.

The new designs look fine to me

I know I'm woefully late this this, but I've been a fan of the series ever since the first one was released. I always split it between old RE up to Veronica and New RE4 - RE6, as I've not played 7. (The gaidens on GB, and Survivor aren't canon.)

I'd say the strongest 2 games in the old series are Codename Veronica for the Dreamcast, and RE2.

RE1 was prototypical and so must be judged by it's own merits, but even with the directors cut, it still was quite rough around the edges. 2 capitalized on everything that had worked for 1, and then added a better story and better characters to it. (I've not played the remake.)

Codename Veronica was a good game visually and had an interesting storyline and characters versus the more generic nature of the RE1 & RE3. It also started to play with the idea of alternative virus development, which is where the ideas for the Las Plagas started to be formulated.

New games I'd have to say RE4 and RE6. RE4 was fun and a good balance between the whole mob attack elements of the las plagas zombies, as well as some cool settings and while the storyline was underwhelming, all in all it was a interesting new addition to the franchise. (I've never like Leon as a character.)

RE6 is the latest one that I've played, and while it has it's faults, in terms of not capitalizing on the same elements of RE4 & RE5 such as mob attacks and the like, that made those games fun, the reason it currently stands as a better game with me, is the fact that in terms of story-line and replay-ability it's got RE5 beat. It doesn't capitalize on as much horror elements as any of it's predecessors. (They've become more action games over time, so that's not altogether surprising.) The nice fact though is that through the play through's you get different flavors of RE styles.

5 was an enjoyable game in every aspect except for one. The story line and character development. They were really terribly atrocious, even by the standards of Capcom and a RE game. I don't expect Oscar winning material, but it really bothered me how annoying the characters were and how derivative the plot was, and this is in a series known for annoying characters and derivative plots.

Rem2ke is supposed to be real gud

The DMC one I'll never get because they just look like realistic depictions of the characters.

Same with REmake 2.
I like the art style, though I also liked MGS5’s similar art style

I actually liked Ada's new look and Claire grew on me tbh. I hated new Chris though, They made him look like Jon McIntosh

Claire looks...nothing like Claire. Annette looks 20 years older than she is supposed to, as does William, while Ada looks okay (her main problems are her changed backstory, different voice actress, and bad attempt to cosplay Dick Tracy). Leon is probably the closest to how he was in the original, extra dose of stupid not withstanding.

They made him look like Jon McIntosh
I did not need that association, now I'll never NOT think about.

Story has never been RE's strong suit so I'm glad they went somewhat schlocky in 4 (you're right hand comes off?) and then 5 they just completely stopped trying and gave us Wesker in all his "COMPLETE GLOBAL SATURATION" glory and a boulder for a final boss. And while the overall campaign was pretty forgettable the Co-Op Mercs was fucking god-tier an absolute blast to play with friends trying to beat your high score. The story DLCs were pretty good too, especially Desperate Escape. RE6 was just a huge disappointment, not even Mercs could save it for me. The stuff where the campaigns intertwined and you could team up with other players and taking over a random monster ala L4D were neat ideas but even those weren't implemented all that well.

The Revelations, 7 and RE2make are all worth playing (especially 7), albeit all entirely different style of games.

Perhaps, but Rem2ke still looks hella fun

Rem2ke is really awesome.I have played it through it twice now and I really like it. I try to get through ghost surviors but I keep dying.

That's a fair statement. I played 5 a long time ago so the memory of what stuck out with me was the fact that it was a more streamlined attempt at 4, that basically had old characters and not much else to offer in terms of advancing the story arc. (I know I'm a story boy.) Wesker at the end was just laughable. I never got to play the DLC.

I'm currently playing through 6 and there are issues with the gameplay, controls and the like, but at least they've attempted to male

Fair enough. I played it a long time ago and never got through any DLC, so it was the standalone game. Gameplay mechanics were definitely better than six, but that is cancelled out by the fact that the story was just mundane even by a resident evil standard. 6 at least they tried to add some thematic elements back in, and the parallel story line has been decent enough to keep my interested in playing through.

6 hasn't been as disappointing for me, but I suppose that's because at this point I have no expectations from Capcom or a RE game, the quality will be what it will be.

I'll definitely give 7, and RE2.1 a go when I can. Unfortunately gaming isn't that high on the list of my priorities these days.
