The Epilogues

I gotta give them credit how they made the end of the "trilogy" feel...very bittersweet. Yes, our characters escaped but thousands are dead, Umbrella got their G-Virus sample from Hunk. Wesker (tho we didnt know he was still alive) got the G-Virus sample too. The survivors are forced to go into hiding or try to band together for a future comfrontation with Umbrella. Leon has to strike a deal with the morally ambiguious goverment to keep him and Sherry safe. Claire left Leon and Sherry quite selfishly to go after Chris. Chris is feeling guilty about keeping Claire in the dark and he gets news she was captured (setting up Code Veronica). Jill finds what seems to be the signs of comfrontation, perhaps not knowing if Chris is even alive. Barry has to leave and put his family into hiding, still feeling extremely guilty that he betrayed his fellow STARS members at the mansion. Sherry is alone, deep down hoping Claire would return (and as far as we know, they never physically met again outside of communications off screen). Ada is feeling guilt over using Leon and is trying to convince herself to let him go (ironically this is the most human we see her before she comes back into being her usual self in RE 4).

And in the end, the game outright tells you that Umbrella still is scott free and that as long they are still around, Raccoon City's destruction was for nothing...

I mean, damn...way to give The Empire Strikes Back ending at the end of the trilogy...

Not sure why. They were the worst enemy in the game bar none.

To be honest, however, their Grudge like sounds they make (and the fact that without a sub-weapon they are one hit kill enemies) do make their remake counterparts one of the most legit scary enemies in the game.

I will always appreciate that Umbrella was ultimately taken down because their stocks were frozen.
Yeah, that was a nice case of reality calling its checks. Tho I have to admit, back then as a teenager or something, I was confused why "freezing stocks" was such a blow to Umbrella when they had all these secret labs, factories, and BOWs.

RE 6 has unlockable files that imply that Claire visited Sherry all the time when she was in government custody to the point that Sherry picked up a lot of Claire's traits and they still continued to hang out after she became an agent. Even Chris's response to meeting Sherry implies Claire talks to him about her all the time. Its nice to know Claire didn't abandon her but it would have been nicer to actually see this. It comes back to the earlier discussion of us never seeing any one (besides Barry) do anything not related to shooting zombies.

Yea like what the fuck happened to Billy after he ran into the forest at the end of Resident Evil 0. Did he just go completely off the grid or something???

Gah, a couple months away and I'm fucking awful at the 4th Survivor now. Threemake has burnt the dodge mechanic into my very soul, and trying it in RE2 keeps messing me up.

Can get to the crashed helicopter and everything goes to hell. The G Spawn at the top of that ladder is a cunts move.

My approach for that is to run straight through the door, slight right around the G and then a wider left when you're parallel to the ladder. Your path from the door to the ladder is kind of a horseshoe shaped route or a quarter circle. If you do it right it'll start a swing with its big arm while you're safe on the opposite side of it, and you should reach the ladder without having to stop.

Finished the RE3 Remake today with a copy given by a friend.
I played and he watched Untill death, then we switched and so on.
We've done that since Resident Evil remake on the GameCube.
While with him it's always fun to shoot zombies and shoot the shit I was disappointed.
Had the idea it might not be worth my money.
Jill Valentine is not a caring character anymore that can be an absolute badass when needed. Instead Capcom turned her into a stoic bitch. There was nothing special or exciting about her in this Remake.
This video is a good summary of quite a lot similar problems the maker had as well as me.

Definitely don't need to play this one again.

New to the franchise, started with the 2 remake, then played the 3 remake, and now I'm playing the remake of 1 (just met the little girl who was experimented on as Chris). I can definitely tell why people liked these games; super tense and I love the ammo conservation mechanic.

Ranking so far would probably be 1>3>2. I felt like 2 lost a ton of steam after the police station, with the sewers and NEST not feeling as rewarding to explore. I also preferred the puzzles in the station. 3 is definitely more of an action game (never ran out of ammo lol), especially the Carlos sections (which I loved) but the dodge mechanics and new enemies definitely kept it fun, but it just didn't have that extra layer of tension 2 does to keep you on your toes.

1 though? Even with the tank controls I fucking love this game. It's got the exploration and puzzles of 2, but with much more interesting zombie combat since it's not a good idea to kill mindlessly. The camera being fixed also makes the traversal much more intense when I'm in a new area because there could be anything around a corner.

I heard that 4-6 are a departure from this trilogy so I'm not too interested but I'll give 'em a shot.

Part of me wishes they brought that mechanic back but then the other part me remembers that's why I'm too chickenshit to play REmake.

I had a very large memory lapse and thought you meant Rebecca for like a full minute before I remembered exactly who Lisa Trevor was.

You absolutely should still try 4 for yourself as it is a strong game by itself that holds up well even if it isn't like the RE games that came before it. Since you like REmake 2 and 3 the Revelation games might be worth a look too since they are somewhere between action RE and old school RE.

Nah, 4, 5, 6 are still good in their own different ways. The director of RE4 opted to give a different kind of tension and horror, the kind of being overwhelmed with enemies, while the original trilogy usually only features 1-4 enemies on screen at a given time.

And it also features the best game mode Resident Evil will ever have: Mercenaries mode. its a game mode where you basically have to survive in a few minutes vs 150 enemies (450 at no mercy mode). I like Mercenaries mode No Mercy in Resident Evil 5 the best because it is the most intense Mercenaries mode of all (three executors on screen? holy shit !!)

6 gets a bad rap probably because of the plot is played completely straight and the campaign is too long. The gameplay is basically balanced for Mercenaries mode, where slide dodging, counters, quick shots and melee are king, so, I guess some people don't like it, because it turned to complete action.

But anyway, try Resident Evil 5 at least. then play Mercenaries mode. you'll have a blast and bonus points if you play in PC (No Mercy mode in PC has more agressive AI than console AI) but Switch is great for playing Mercenaries on the go.

RE4 is one of the best games of all time. Definitely play that.

RE5: I have played all the way through that game multiple times, beat both DLCs, got all the infinite ammo weapons, etc. Its an inferior game to 4 generally, though it looks technically great, but the tank control setup wears thin after awhile and the inventory system is a step down from RE4. Do yourself a favor: if you play the game on any difficulty higher than normal, play co-op. Your teammate's AI is brain dead and the higher difficulties are brutal without a human ally to make easier. Also, just about every chapter features a new weapon to be found (I think all but the first one). Don't miss your chance to pickup a free gun.

RE6: Dogshit. A complete travesty. I can't play more than an hour of that game every time I pick it up. In fact, this video says everything you need to know about it and better than I ever could:

So one minor note on remake 3 bit the classic costumes for Jill and Carlos will be available as cheap dlc this month, kinda a gyp that we need to pay to have Jill in a skirt but whatever I'll take it.

Also if what I've heard is true this will be the only dlc for remake since the Dev team has moved onto other things.
