I'm really, really hoping for RE8 we get some Haunting Ground esque stuff like the room with the dolls and the marionettes in the castle.

I love Capcom's "gothic" period which started with Code Veronica, continued on with Devil May Cry and RE4 and ended with Haunting Ground and RE8 is the first game they've really made in that vein since then, although RE7 kinda had a few of those elements, but I hope they go all the way in reviving that aesthetic with RE8.

Agreed on this one, I'm a huge fan of old-school Gothic horror and the gothic aesthetic in general.

I'm curious to see how RE8 will turn out. We know there will be traditional zombies and werewolf-like creatures and there's rumors of vampire characters too.

Something I would've loved to see is a remake of Outbreak or even a new game set in Raccoon City but it'd be sorta like an open world GTA style game at first. Like it'd start just before the outbreak really got going and as the game progresses, the situation gets worse and then the spill in Birkin's lab kicks everything into overdrive.

I'd include a lot of the characters from Outbreak and side characters like Dario Rosso, Eliot, Ben Bertolucci, and Robert Kendo as NPC's. The player would be a customized character, and you could pick a background for them at the start of the game and that could affect how the story unfolds for them.

People were hoping that REmake3 would be like that, if not open world then semi-open world. Didn't pan out though and given how Capcom kinda dropped the ball with it, I don't think they'd do it right. Especially with REsistance out.

I'd love CV remake but with DSC designs and writing and Rev.2 atmosphere. Maybe if given to DMC5 team there's a potential, but after 3 I honestly doubt they care. Let them ruin 4 instead 🍿

RE3 Remake is a very odd case, I thought it was a very good game, just not as good as it could have been.

It was essentially a better version of an RE5, RE6 linear action extravaganza as opposed to a "true" RE game like RE2 Remake was.

The main thing I was disappointed by was the hospital being nothing like the hospital in the original game, other than that it was a good game, but it was definitely no RE2 Remake, fuck do I love that game, it's the only new game over the last decade that I've played multiple times.

It's mainly because RE3 Remake was pretty much a glorified story DLC for the RE2 remake.

I really get the feeling it was meant as a "Cliff's Notes" version of RE3's story for an RE2 remake DLC pack but then they bumped it up to a full game so they could anchor the Resident Evil: Resistance online multiplayer game to something that would be a guaranteed seller.

I'm looking forward to RE8 and I'm curious to see how they will do an RE4 remake.

alright heres my opinion on Ethan.

Ethan is actually very well written, heres why I think so: The reason he doesnt talk much is because he has noone to talk to, why just keep talking to yourself when the mold takes advantage of how crazy someone is? Notice he ONLY speaks in response to extreme stimuli, i do this alot myself like saying "oh fuck thats gross" or the other times he speaks is when someones actually there.

Ethan slowly grows as a brave character as the game goes on, he's afraid at first, but as he begins to realize
that hes not entirely powerless he begins to speak confidently and with more anger and readyness to fight. Even throwing out some nice quips sometimes.

Ethans not a BAD character, just not as vocal as the others.

REmake 2 was a full retelling of the original story. 3make was just the high points with a quite a few parts taken out.

That alone honestly makes me think it was supposed to be a story DLC for REmake 2.
Highly likely. Capcom knew that if they released it as DLC people would be pissed. So they slapdash together a full game and call it good. Unfortunately, fan expectations were high and instead of getting the semi-open world game people were wanting, we got the cliffnotes version. With a third of pages missing.

I wanted to love this game, but in the end, I just can't.

I'd say here's hoping for a remake of Outbreak, but considering REsistance is a thing, I doubt we're going to get it.

I'm really looking forward to an RE4 remake as well, since the last time I played it in 2014 it was looking really dated, which takes away a lot of the impact it had in 2005.

Of course what I really want out of an RE4 remake is for them to revive the "Hookman" version with Spencer Castle as the setting and everything, but I'll settle for the Los Plagas version provided they stick to the original tone.

But I do hope ala REmake that there are new and expanded areas, that'd be cool, maybe even a total reworking of the island section (the weakest part of the game) to be better.

IIRC he's a Vietnam veteran. After going through that sort of special hell, horrid mutant swamp creatures and your mutant psychopath brother are nothing. Just be glad he only got a power fist and not the machete he wielded into the intro scene. As to Chris, you're right, him being a literal roid rager just seems more fun as a character concept than "Boring BSAA agent". Leon should have fucked his sister when he had the chance. Now Ethan has to save him.
Not big into Resident Evil and only very loosely follow it, this post introduced me to Joe Baker and you're right, he's a hilariously badass character for the genre. Even STARS, who are well trained, tend to be cautious and the "tread carefully" types. I look up Joe Baker and he's just beating the shit out of everything and asking for more. Brilliant, but definitely something to have once in a blue moon.

Though he doesn't sound like a bayou boy at all, which is a shame. They have such a way with words; I mean it.

Resident Evil is bad and sexist because Claire doesn't get to sit in a chair...

And I HATE how he draws my girl, keep her away from him!

I'm throwing out some random Resident Evil thoughts just because.

I may be the only person on Earth not totally in love with RE4, I still love it, but the main things that bothers me is number 1 the story is kind of stupid, I wanted to infiltrate Spencer castle and takedown Umbrella for good, instead we're told Umbrella went kaput between games and now we experience a story that basically has nothing to do with what came before, lame.

And secondly it's too much of an action game, rarely is it all that much scary in a way the prior games were scary, it's an action game given a horror flavor, it's still more of a horror game that some of the entries that came later, but it's still not really a horror game.

And finally it fucked over the series for years, all of Capcom's attempt to recapture the magic of RE4 failed and it was only when they stopped trying to ride RE4's dick did the series get good again.

But putting all that of aside and just focusing on RE4 itself of course it's a great game and I guess the splintering off from the original idea is what gave us Haunting Ground, which is one of my all time favorite games and scratched that itch of what I wanted from the original version of RE4, so arguably it all worked out in the end, but what's really a shame is the direction the series took from there.

I really hate RE5, I've tried to play it twice and didn't beat it both times, I couldn't even finish watching a playthrough of it on Youtube, all that Africa shit has nothing to do with Resident Evil, I hate that they wasted Wesker's downfall on this crap.

RE6 brings back more of an RE feel to some of it's aesthetics but it still really sucks, the only thing I really like about it is grown up Sherry is cute, shame she's wasted in this game.

Still, I am so thankful the series managed to correct course.

I've replayed REmake2 and Remake3 just for the Halloween, and I am starting to appreciate it a little more than before. I still have complaints, but again, its not so bad.

Looking at it with a coder and game designer perspective, Nemesis would be a bitch to implement if they try to make it like the original RE3, chasing you around the whole city would be a bitch to code and a nightmare to balance. I just wish that the event switches to trigger Nemesis appearance and the safe areas are far apart. Most of them are just a short trek that only lasts 15-20 seconds. and also make Nemmy a little bit harder. Its so easy to knock down Nemesis and the rewards are really not that great too.

Carlos and the UBCS rubs me the wrong way. Carlos is using a 5.56 rifle, yet it sounds and feels like a submachine gun. Also, I know the rail system was made in the 80s, but Carlos gun feels and somewhat looks 2000s era, I guess maybe its the rail interface system is much modern than the ones in the 90s. Carlos punch/shove is OP against zombies. you can just infinitely shove zombies and knife them and they won't be able to get up or bite.

I like the hospital section. I like the Nests 2.0 except for the Nemmy fight.

Overall, I think they copied too much of REmake2 instead of making its own thing. For me, if they just expanded the city to at least 3 times and have the different kind of weapons (like the normal shotgun and the sawed off shotgun) I would be fine without the tower area and drastically changed story.
But for now, its a 7/10 remake.

I think you feel that way, because it is a pure Mikami production. Remember that Resident Evil 1 was supposed to have cyborg and ghosts and purely retarded story. Even the prototype RE4 had ghosts. It was Kenichi Iwao who dialed back RE1 to a more mysterious corporation with virus and conspiracies. Capcom used Iwao's ideas until RE4.

As for the gameplay, its unrefined, but I like the take on the horror idea of being surrounded by insurmountable enemies rather than the traditional survival horror gameplay.

I think RE5 perfected the idea of the horror of being completely surrounded by enemies, but only on No Mercy mode. RE6 made the No Mercy mode too easy though.

That's actually a pretty common feeling. A most people liked RE4, a lot of people loved it, and a pronounced minority hated/didn't like it.

Story-wise, I think they knew they had to do something different. By the time RE3 and CV:X rolled around, the market was starting to get a bit crowded with games about the living dead, and Capcom knew that going back to the same well too many times would drive away fans. So long story short, they wound up going for a more sci-fi theme that came across as campy.

It just felt like a cheat not to give us a proper conclusion to the Umbrella storyline, which they never really did, as it was all spread out among various games and spinoffs and whatnot.

This is what I'm hoping to see from RE8 is a return to that "Spencer castle" sort of idea and revealing to us who's really been behind Umbrella this whole time and maybe all the other, seemingly unconnected events as well, as a way to try to tie the messy storyline together better and a sort of apology for 5 and 6.

I think it was already revealed that Spencer was behind it all along. Until Wesker Nanto Seiken'd him. Then Wesker got a case of the exploded by Chris and not-partner sheva. Then it came to light in RE6 that "The Family" was behind Neo-umbrella.

I didn't like RE7 much and RE8 doesn't perk me interest either, but I hope they just abandon the whole Neo-umbrella and Illuminati/Family angle. Seems super lame to me.
