I think it was already revealed that Spencer was behind it all along. Until Wesker Nanto Seiken'd him. Then Wesker got a case of the exploded by Chris and not-partner sheva. Then it came to light in RE6 that "The Family" was behind Neo-umbrella.

I didn't like RE7 much and RE8 doesn't perk me interest either, but I hope they just abandon the whole Neo-umbrella and Illuminati/Family angle. Seems super lame to me.
I'm hoping they drop the Illuminati/Family angle as well (and I'm sure they will, I can't imagine we'll ever see anything from 6 referenced again) but the impression I'm getting from 8 is that even Spencer was just a lackey and that mysterious group of women seen in the trailer is who has been behind everything, but we'll see.

Capcom did a great disservice to the franchise killing Wesker. Maybe if they kept him as a super villain and pulling the strings then perhaps future installments wouldn't feel like a departure from it's original core.

They'd of had to re-write Wesker's character and re-do a good portion of the story to make him a subtle mastermind instead of the Neo rip-off he turned into.

I think they will drop it since 7 didn't seem to mention the whole Illuminati conquering the world and actually running America thing and opted for a smaller scale threat that started with some sort of criminal organization invested in BOWs losing control of their project and making some bad decisions after the fact.

I'm thinking 8 won't be the True Umbrella but a case of some old secret Umbrella assets being used by a new threat. RE 5 made it clear enough why Umbrella was founded and by who that there being a secret final boss would be silly to me. If someone led spencer on to his quest for immortality and orchestrated how everything for the next 60 years went, that would lead us back to "The Family" tier of story ideas.

Umbrella and Spencer's fall were fine to me. Umbrella was a corporation and died a corporate death and Spencer was an old man that lost everything because Raccoon city was never supposed to happen. Umbrella still going strong after Raccoon city would have been a little strange especially since we know they weren't exactly friendly with the US government at the time. I didn't need to have the scene where Chris and Jill corner Spencer in a room and he injects himself with the new virus that turns him into a 30 foot tall blob monster and gets killed by a rocket to the face. I can only look back and think at least Spencer had the dignity of not being Simmons.

Given the environment of RE8 seems to be a very old castle and village area and an Umbrella logo is seen, I'm feeling like this is going to be revealing another layer to Umbrella, maybe Spencer wasn't quite a "lackey" but maybe there's more surviving members of his family?

For the future of the story settings there are three ways I'm hoping they go:
-Umbrella competitor filling in the power gap they left, something more discreet than a global super corporation
-Something that got left over or was released from Umbrella and has managed to survive, and becomes myth or folklore to a specific area
-Abandoned locations (labs, testing grounds, islands, mock towns etc) that had been used by Umbrella or a competitor, but not been discovered by a government/people for a long while, and experiments there grow unmanaged and wildly

It doesn't have to be all of them of course, but I liked the direction 7 went with a small remote location just getting a single Bio Weapon and the consequences of it. After Remake2 (and a bungled 3) I'm okay with them taking a break from huge population centers that have gone to shit. Unless it can have a proper payoff like it did going from 1 to 2 I'd rather they stick more with something almost like an anthology type story just set in the same fucked up world.

So like something from what was originally going to be in RE2. Where the characters (I forget which ones) go back to the Umbrella mansion and it's all over-grown with mutated plants and plant zombies lurk about.

Here's a thought, I like RE7 and I'm looking forward to RE8, but what I really loved was the RE2 Remake, I felt like that's the one that got the formula right the most.

So what's the team behind it going to do next? They didn't do the RE3 Remake, there's a rumor that they're making a RE4 Remake, but I'd like to see an all new game done in the RE2 Remake style from that same team, maybe even something, dare I say it?, that officially retcons outs 5 and 6 and replaces it with a much better conclusion to the Wesker/Chris rivalry.

Or if that not just an all new game done in the RE2 Remake style, that'd be bitching.

We never did learn who exactly Wesker was supposed to be working for during Code Veronica, did we? The HCF I think it was called? But that was just one branch of a larger unnamed group if I recall correctly, maybe that could be the new Umbrella and who was behind The Connections in RE7.

Still, I like my idea best, that behind all the events of the series, the ones in both of the Revelations games, maybe even with a connection to the Los Illuminados from RE4 and The Connections in RE7 has been whatever group we're seeing in RE8, that would be a way to tie RE's messy lore together in a neater fashion.

Basically, the HCF is a somewhat a competing corporation against Umbrella. their first official outing is RE7. their research is mainly on the micro-organism/bacterial/parasite compared to Umbrella's focus on virus research.

ok, I think I replayed RE3 Remake too many times now, It took me many hours to complete, but I made it harder for myself (why did I chose to play no item box run on nightmare difficulty). The only thing left to do is look for all charlie dolls, but fuck that.
but I still prefer playing it over RE2 Remake just because of unskippable Sherry and Ada sections, they really grind the game to a halt. If there was only a mod that removes those sections, it will be golden.

Anyway, after replaying REmake3 too many times, I feel that it has introduced more holes in the lore of Racoon City incident than the original games. I mean how and why Brad knows Nemesis is hunting Jill. The way the story progressed felt like the peak outbreak happened on September 27-28, when the original happened on September 24, and then barricade and roadblocks happened and stranding Jill, and its the reason why Leon and Claire were able to traverse through Raccoon city easier because the zombie horde scattered after the peak outbreak .

it definitely feels that lot of Remake3 has been cut, probably more or less to appease the speedrun autists as there is evidence of fully modeled Staglia gas station.

Ok, so I bought RE6 a few months ago I think in steam since it was on sale for 3 bucks. I already played it in PS3, PS4. So, I thought, what the hey, I don't play PS4 that much anymore since I don't play Gundam EXVS that much, might as well play it on PC.

Hooollleeeee fuck....... who ever thought a free-form camera was good for RE6 needs to be shot in the head.

What the fuck is going on this fucking PC port? The mouse look is basically fucked. a simple swipe of the mouse makes the camera spin so fast. Its like a tweaker having spasms. Shit, I even slowed down the camera speed to 0 and still doesn't resolve the issue, I have to plug in the controller to play this. The keyboard and mouse for this game is fucked. Even RE5 PC doesn't have this issue.

I've prboably mentioned it before, but I still think of how good RE3R could have been if we'd had an extended section where we witness the early stages of the outbreak, and find out how the other STARS members managed to escape

RE3's on sale for $20. Should I pull the trigger, or wait for an even lower price?

Heard that one of the leaks is possibly Resident Evil Outbreak and it honestly sounds too good to be true. I liked the Outbreak Series when I played it online with friends a couple of years ago and it would be pretty cool to actually have something like Outbreak make a return if done properly and not another rehash of the 4 player co-op that Resident Evil Multiplayer seems to be doing after Left 4 Dead was a thing.

If I remember right. The other STARS members got out of dodge once they knew about Umbrella and how the Police weren't going to do anything about it with Chief Irons keeping the lid secret because he was payed by Umbrella to keep quiet and do their dirty work. Chris went to somewhere in Europe to investigate more on Umbrella, Barry left I imagine to go back to his family and move them somewhere safer, Rebecca I'm not sure on but since there's no mention of her in the city at the time, I can imagine she was elsewhere when the outbreak happened.

The only STARS members alive at that point that stayed in Umbrella City were Jill and Brad as the rest of the STARS died during 0 and 1 (Except for Wesker of course) hence why the Outbreak series focused on locals trying to escape.

Resistance felt a lot like an Outbreak test field, and a lot of their loyalty programs, ambassador program and polls lately have been getting nosey about whether people want an Outbreak or even know what an Outbreak is. Resistance was "announced" in a RE2make file. RE3Make had nothing indicating Outbreak, but RE2make did have the name of a police officer that played a part in an Outbreak scenario. Rita Phillips. Point being, Outbreak Remake/File 3 wouldn't be completely out of left field. I think we can be at least cautiously optimistic. I really think a game that plays okay with an emphasis on co-op and a PVP mode for those who want it by Capcom could really bust DBD's dominance over the assymetric market, but with Capcom's track record, I feel like they could just as easily fuck it up.

There's some factors against them, as well. Outbreak's still alive thanks to the pirate servers. It's that "Perfect" balance of co-op gameplay that can still be solo'd, and if they stick to that very wise design philosophy a lot of people will certainly never go online with it. And there's a not insignificant chance of shit being ruined by corporate greedh. Resistance had lootboxes, some impacted gameplay, some were just cosmetic, and just the sheer amount of them was fucking daunting. It'd take you something like three thousand hours to unlock them all. Better yet, it released with no anticheat, so clean players had some very fun times on PC.

If they hand it to the same guys, Neobards, I think they'd do an alright job of things. They certainly tried their hardest to make Resistance close to Outbreak.

What I loved about Outbreak is that each scenario was like a segment in a normal RE game. It wasn't co-op shoot and kill all the monsters fest. You had to manage inventories, solve large scale puzzles, back track and open new routes, and avoid enemies at times. If they do make Outbreak they need to make sure it feels like a normal Resident Evil but with co-op and not a normal co-op game with the Resident Evil name.

Yeah Chris was gone and Barry was relocating his family to Canada at the time and came back in time to rescue Jill and Carlos when he learned what was happening in Raccoon City. Rebecca isn't mentioned and didn't have an epilogue file so I don't think it was confirmed canon she survived RE 1 at that point.

Wait until the Easter sale.
Then demand 2/3rds of your money back for the all the sections of the game they removed.

Rebecca became a collage professor IIRC. Not likely we'll ever see her again though considering Mikami hated her.

Capcom has a nasty habit of polling and asking people if they're interested in something, then dropping it completely without a word. The Darkstalkers is not Dead disappointment comes to mind.

The idea of the bad guy being a faceless cooperation with people sitting in in a board meeting to discuss if something can be super deadly but also cost effective while also trying to look like a normal pharmaseutical company just crunshing the numbers away knowing full well what they are doing is wrong is far more scary then umbrella being the illuminati or megalomaniacs in the end.

What Outbreak also nailed masterfully is the diverse cast. Not just gender and race, all these characters are of different backgrounds, ages, jobs, talents and it actually makes a difference which character you chose to play as. Mark, Yoko, Jim and David aren't just shoehorned minorities, they are actual people, and it's incredible, considering it's not particularly a character/story driven game, how it made me care about all of these characters just be learning how to play as them, not just through cutscenes. Not to mention they all have "realistic" designs and proportions yet I didn't hear a single complain about Outbreak being "woke". Now compare that to the diversity clowns of Resistance...
