I was a bit worried with all the comparisons to RE4. Even though I like RE4 and it was my favorite game of 2005, the game had some problems that carried over in the series for quite awhile.

I just finished the castle and I can see why the comparison is there. It's very shooty and there is a lot of hunting for treasure, in fact I had to come and post this as soon as I shot and collected a couple of fish. But so far it has managed to keep up the horror aspect of the game, which is something RE4 abandoned as soon as you got to the village.

I like that the game isn't drowning me in ammo or cash even though enemies drop items now, that was one of my main concerns when the RE4 comparisons started coming in. So far I think it has combined what I really liked about RE4 and RE7 while cleaning up the stuff that dragged them down.

I need to say it but holy shit
that doll section. I'd straight up say that's the creepiest RE has been in a long time. Babies are so fucking scary, man

One thing I'll say is that some of this level design is fucking confusing. I have easily spent more time looking at my map than in any other game in the series, and I've only just returned to the village. It would really be a good idea to patch the way the map works so that areas that get blocked or opened up due to events in the game, get updated so that you can figure out your route properly. This red chimney thing has been a total nightmare.

Also, I'm fairly sure that when you are in safe rooms with Duke, different music from RE1 remake plays. It sounds slightly different, but I'm sure that these are songs from RE1.

It's a neat little easter egg if I'm right, especially because it adds to the creep factor.

Pretty sure I'm more than halfway through.
I see what everyone was saying about the giant baby. Holy hell that thing was disturbing and I legit freaked out when I first encountered it. Beneviento's section definitely felt like it passed too quickly though, which is a shame. The part of Moreau's section where you have to avoid him in the water was not kind to my anxiety but I liked and sympathized with his character. The lords are probably my favorite part of the game. That said, they're kind of lacking in lore and I wish they'd have gotten more screen time (I haven't faced Heisenberg yet, but still). Hyping up Dimitrescu when she's only in the beginning of the game was a mistake IMO.
I'm honestly kind of surprised at how much fun I've been having.

I’m surprised they didn’t show much of heisenberg before the game released despite him not only having the longest section out of the 4 lords, but also because his character is easily the most important to the plot out of the four. (That being said, still not that important, but more important than the others.)

So I finished the game a couple hours ago and while it’s a fun time, there’s still more to be desired. I wish they had expanded some more sections (like house beneviento and moreaus reservoir.) They also could’ve given some characters more screen time and expanded those characters more. Despite so much advertisement for dimitrescu there’s not much I know about her. I’d say heisenberg was definitely the most interesting one because they actually fleshed out his character, but what about the others? I’d give the game an 8/10 but that’s just my personal opinion.

Finished it, without getting into spoilers: it's pretty good.

The only points I didn't enjoy was the stronghold; felt like the RE5 wave defense sections but with werewolves - and the Heisenberg fight was a let down.
I couldn't help but laugh when vampire lady cuts his good hand off only for him to just wordlessly stick it on again later like it's no big deal

I finished the Castle and I'm now in the Village again. I'm not going to give the game a rating yet but I have to say the scenery & sound design are amazing.

For example the Village is dead (besides animals & monsters but when they are killed it's eerie there) but it's still alive with sounds, not even ghostly sounds but normal things like creaking, wind howling, crows, chimes moving in the wind, the snow under your shoes, even blood dripping from a cavader...etc. It's great but also unnerving. You also don't know if certain sounds are from monsters or just houses falling apart.

Only 1 time I had a scary experience where I heard running footsteps behind me but there was nothing when I turned around.

I watched a friend play through the game because I have no money and am too lazy. The shit with heisenberg got ridiculously into anime territory and it sucks he ended up having to be killed in the end though narratively he could have feasibly gone without a murder-level fight.

When he uses his magneto powers to make a fucking massive mech it's the most incredible shit. It's fucking stupid cool as hell when he takes a fucking beating and is actually not extremely mad about it. He literally fucking says shit like "So, this is the power of Fatherly love huh? not bad." I'm kinda out of it right now so recounting this all in a way that fully conveys how I feel about the vibes that fight gives off probably isn't gonna be the best and most fluid. The whole damn fight is a mecha battle and not something you'd expect from resident fucking evil of all things but well done enough in a way it doesn't feel forced.

Finished the game. 8.5/10 is my verdict. It's a good entry. Major props to Capcom for addressing the negative gameplay issues from 7.

I can already see a few story areas Capcom could do story DLC like the Zoe DLC in 7. A prequel story DLC where you see the village initially infected and the 4 lords turning into monsters could be fun. However, if this is it, the base game length is actually respectable. It's not too short like the RE3 remake and nothing jumps out as cut content.

The biggest criticism is that the second and third lords are shorter than the vampire women and Heisenburg. Capcom also WAY oversold Lady Dimitrescu and the vampire sisters in advertising and trailers. I get sex sells but the sheer simping going on is getting cringy.

I'm curious where they are going to go for RE9. I really do think Capcom is setting up some sort of timeline jump or skip soon.

Edit: Also, in hindsight, Ethan Winters is an absolute Chad if you look at what he did and went through in 7 and 8. The man protected his family at all costs and effectively bitchslapped actual monsters all for his family's sake.

Probably the best RE engine game so far but definitely not the best RE game. I don’t think capcom will ever make something that comes close to REmake ever again.

My ranking now would probably be
REmake>2>4>1>3>8>RE2make>6>7>RE3make>5
Haven’t played CVX in like 9 years so I can’t really rank that right now.
