Probably the best RE engine game so far but definitely not the best RE game. I don’t think capcom will ever make something that comes close to REmake ever again.

My ranking now would probably be
REmake>2>4>1>3>8>RE2make>6>7>RE3make>5
Haven’t played CVX in like 9 years so I can’t really rank that right now.
Hopefully they don't fuck up RE4make. If I remember right Shinji Mikami is doing some consulting/overseeing for that so hopefully he's able to make sure they don't fuck up anything. If they do fuck it up that's instant reset to the era where people hated Capcom since RE4 is borderline perfect as a game. I'm still hoping Shinji gets to make that "dream game" of his that he talked about not too long ago. Leave The Evil Within to John Johannas who did a great job with TEW2.

Edit: Also, in hindsight, Ethan Winters is an absolute Chad if you look at what he did and went through in 7 and 8. The man protected his family at all costs and effectively bitchslapped actual monsters all for his family's sake.
considering Ethan is a literal regular guy compared to Chris who already a S.T.AR.S agent.
Ethan is Ultimate Chad

I dunno. DMC5 is very, very good.

Solid game that was good enough to make me finish it in almost one sitting but it's definitely held back by Capcom trying to chase trends/appealing to the twitch crowd. Too many scripted events where you just basically walk forward and toning down the scary is unfortunate. It says a lot when the most tense part of your game is a literal copy/paste "Unkillable monster walks by while you sit in a locker with no weapons"

Very good game.
Pacing is great and the boss in residence is just brilliant. I won't spoil things but this is one of few games that actually made my character to run away and consider never leave the bed.

They made few changes for gameplay which might be considered "controversial" such as treasure hunting. While it was part of RE4 I can't recall if it was as easy to buy all the thing from merchant's there. My point is at the end of the game on Standard difficulty with thorough exploration Ethan is OP at the end of the game. The amount of ammo and firepower I am carrying right now makes me unbeatable and game from puzzle-action becomes more action with few puzzles. Unlike previous RE, especially the classics, most of encounters are necessary to be gunned down and once you get rid of them the locations are empty with no threats. I really tried to conserve my ammo and try to avoid walkers and lycans but it is easier to put them dead rather than avoiding them.
On the other hand, the boss battles from really involving and immersive can become repetitive and hollow. As mentioned before, the 2nd boss is really great and I am looking forward for more like this. Rest is just "meh". The game too much relies on the stockpiled ammo and weapon by Ethan which makes bosses too easy. Few times I had impression that they are lesser threat to minor enemies in game than they should be.

The crazy witch had few nice catch phrases. I really appreciate the quality of her few lines. It's not easy work to put more meaning in less words. Chapeau bas.
Ethan reminds me with some action actors from the 80's like Schwarzenegger saying nice one-liners at the end of each boss battle. I am at the end of the game and still didn't saw the end credits but the story so far is good. It made me playing for 3-4 hours straight which is uncommon for me because I get easily bored. I am on the hook and await how the story ends so writing is decent to say the least.

One thing I really appreciate is that Ethan moves his gun to the bottom of the screen, out of the way. RE7 bugged the shit out of me because some of those weapons would cover like half of the left (edit: right side, I'm retarded) side of the screen. They must have gotten some feedback on that.

Also I screwed myself out of some upgrades because I sold a bunch of food to the fat pervert before he turned right around and opened his restaurant up. I realize thats partly on me, but you'd think the option would open up as soon as you started finding food.

Something I also like about the game is that they cover a range of horror themes as you go, which helps keep it fresh. You've got your traditional gothic horror with Lady D, psychological horror with puppet neet, and body horror with Moreau. I'm guessing that Heisenberg is going to take the RE4 approach of just constantly running you down with physical threats, which hopefully won't wear out it's welcome in this game.

Heisenberg goes full on Frankenstein. His area is a bit long in the tooth, but it's designed well IMO and has massive amounts of character compared to that fucking boat.

As an aside, corpse combuster feels broken in Mercenaries. Outright obliterates armoured units.

Even the stronghold level gives off some The Descent vibes.

Just played the first hour or so; does the game ever get scary, or is this just Resident Evil 4? Gun down pseudo-zombies and watch cutscenes with Boring Dad Leon and Ugly Baby Ashley?

I'm not into video games and basically just ignore video games stuff altogether
But today, I been getting Village recommendations on my Roku
And even though video games are not my thing, I do love art, from design in film, shows, video games, toys, etc.
So, I already spent a few hours just watching lots of Village game plays
And the character design are very amazing looking. From the creatures, to the humans wearing those night vision goggles. They did a fine job with the designs and I plan on buying the art book

But one thing I will say, that Lady Dimitrescu is the hottest CGI chick ever

So I'm poking around after the Moreau section, and while I have my problems with the cluttered level design and borderline useless map, I really think RE8 does a better job of sending you on goodie hunts than most games.

One of the things that bugs me about games like Bioshock and RE4 is that their idea of exploration is to check all the couch cushions for cash and break all the boxes you can find. I like that RE8 has you actually going to new areas or opening things up in order to grab your loot.

I also like that they will drop a mini boss on your ass while you're going back to older areas. The axe nigger in the Beneviento graveyard was a nice lil touch.

I'm gonna go on a limb here and say it's probably some fuckery Denuvo's causing. Whenever it's removed from a game, the performance actually improves. Last year it was haphazardly added to Doom Eternal and the performance became noticeably worse. Doom Eternal was one of the most beautifully optimized games for PC prior to Denuvo being added, so people actually had a frame of reference for how the game is supposed to perform. Then Denuvo was removed and it went right back to playing smoothly.

This is why I'm gonna wait it out a bit before getting it. Only other option is to get it for my base PS4, which, at a cursory look, isn't ideal (it apparently run at 45 fps).
That was Denuvo Anti-cheat that caused all those problems. RE8's Steam page doesn't mention having that. I assume Denuvo anti-tamper is causing some of the drops I had when the vampire women were chasing me.
