So was Curtis Craig expect that lasted longed. But now it all makes sense why I had a feeling that Ethan was a de-aged copy of Curtis, expect white pocket T instead of a gray one.
He was a definitive "vanilla" protagonist but thankfully they did something interesting with him.
I always suspected the reason why he was so lucky in the Baker house is because Eveline wanted him as her daddy so she protected him. Although it doesn't explain why Chris was clueless about him being a mold, shouldn't they have run some tests on him?

All I am gonna say about this thread rn is: Donna Beneviento (doll lady) > Lady Dimitrescu( tall vampire lady)

Finished my knife only playthrough in 2hrs 40mins, was fun and on casual is easier than powering through on standard with a shotgun
Who was everyone's favourite of the main villains? I'm on my fourth playthrough now and I think Heisenbergs probably my favourite in terms of attitude and character. Thought Moreau was a funny little guy and liked that he doesn't seem as 'villain' as he looks, if that makes sense. Demitrescu is cool but I would have liked to explore the castle more without her on my back. Would have liked to have seen more of the doll lady, too.
And Brianna Wu and the other dickheads talking shit about Ethan makes me like his character more. A blonde, married chad. Weird how he's had so much shit talked about him but Leon etc haven't.

I was trying to figure out Heisenberg's model and wanting to see where his face was, I initially thought the front of his final form was some kind of face because it has a little gear on top that's reminiscent of his hat, and I thought that was a cute touch.

But no, that's no where his face is, it's off to the side like the bear's facial anatomy in Annihilation.

Thing with Jill and Chris is that their original incarnations are super outdated by now. They both started as American action heroes in way over their heads and written by Japanese turbonerds in an era before the widespread of the internet. Chris was a borderline shonen hero: Hot blooded, passionate and brave, and a complete moron who never even saw Wesker's double cross coming. Then he's really upset at Wesker because he's failing to uphold the ideals of TRUTH AND JUSTICE and he killed people WITH HIS OWN DIRTY HANDS and all that. Chris changed a lot over the years into a more generic badass action hero, and then a veteran who's seen some shit and must carry on the fight regardless because he's the right man for the job and all that. Chris is getting some unironically good writing with the new guys.
Which original incarnation? RE1 Chris was a former Airforce pilot and Jill was a reformed cat-burglar. Both of which were capable, but in no way prepared for what was in the mansion. Capcom re-writing their past every game to make them green beret/special forces was retarded and a good reason why they needed somebody standing over the writers desks with a wooden spoon ready to smack their hands when they started writing dumb shit like that.

I'm just happy that the vampire lady's final form really is an ugly, boner-killing abomination.
Joke's on you, I'm into that shit.

In all seriousness, is the game worth the price or not? Because I'm considering getting it once my new computer gets here and it'd be my first RE game.

Wasn't that the backstory in the SD Perry novel? I thought Jill was always ex-Delta Force, of all things, in spite of being a woman and in her early 20s. I was just referring to the characterization in the OG game. From what I understand it was her dad Dick Valentine (lol) who was a thief and taught her to pick locks. The novel had her be an accomplice to him. Honestly, not a bad idea. Still, Chris and Jill were accomplished military guys I suspect purely because the Japanese turbonerds had no idea what would be an "Average" firearms handler knowledge, and they had to use a lot of guns expertly throughout the game. The novels don't seem to be canon. There's a Tyrant that's just a T-rex. Almost 20 years of foresight regarding Simmons...

S.T.A.R.S in general makes no god damn sense as an American special unit, because the average American cop is already a firearms expert, and trained to deal with threats involving firearms. Again, an era before the widespread of the internet, plus how firearms were in Japan, meant they wanted to cover their bases on "Yeah, this guy and girl can just grab any sort of weapon and operate it without a hitch, and with remarkable accuracy" because, well, the average Japanese dude wouldn't know the first thing about a firearm. They'd probably struggle to take the safety off. Meanwhile Chris and Jill are canonically good enough that they both got through the whole Mansion Incident without getting touched once. That probably involved a lot of shooting. A Japanese cop drawing their gun would reliably make the news. Meanwhile, in America...

But I figure nobody knew this back then.

If S.T.A.R.S were Japanese, they would be completely reasonable. It's a special firearms squad that has received training and equipment to deal with other firearms threats. Basically a Japenese swat/counterterrorism team. The police inspiration carried on in the series: Hunk was given remarkably riot-like armor, a gasmask, and submachineguns. They straight up gave him an MP5 in Re2make, one of the main weapons of Japanese firearm squads.

Anyway, they eventually caught on, because Leon is just a rookie cop and can operate whatever he finds with no issue, and Claire is a civilian who was taken to the shooting range once or twice by Chris and she's comfortable enough to run around with grenades tucked in her unitard pockets.

As an aside, Jill Valentine was Delta Force before Martin Walker from Spec Ops: The Line. And Richard Pearsley, the guy who wrote The Line ended up writing Resident Evil 7. Funny little connection there.

And honestly, I'm just happy we didn't get the alternate timeline where S.T.A.R.S were all cyborgs.

EDIT: Yeah, Re5 Mercs is fun, but just doesn't live up to 4's Mercs. The different loadouts were fun and the different melee and playable characters was fun enough that I've done Barry main caimpaign playthroughs and thoroughly enjoyed them. But they're all the same dude with different guns and melee in the end. Even the odd one out, Wesker, just gets a sprint and a special finicky as hell melee. Meanwhile in RE4, Leon and Ada are "normal", you get a Rambo dude with sick melee, a deadly bow and an instakill swordarm, a dude who goes around snapping three necks per second and basically flash-stepping through the battlefield, and a guy who can gently tap someone on the chest and send them flying across the room.

They really keep phoning it in with the whole different playable characters in recent times. Everyone just has Leon's/Claire's animations, but different pain grunts and huffing sounds, and a different loadout. That's basically a model swap. You could slap Leon's model over Kendo in his special minigame and absolutely nothing would change. Meanwhile, over on PS2, Krauser had unique animations for almost everything, and every Outbreak character had their own walk and run cycle. Even the Outbreak NPCs had unique stats.

I beat it a few days ago and loved it. I can't say I'm upset that dimitrescu didn't get focuse since it should've been obvious to the people hyping her that she ain't the centerpiece since she barely had a presence or plot relevancy other than marketing and i don't blame capcom for this one since they didn't think she would've gotten so popular. At least the advertisment isn't deceptive like tlou2's.

Jack outright says that before the chainsaw fight

Here's the thing with mold, it can regenerate and recreate and reconfigure any part and take components from outside resources and make it into what you need it to be.

Basically it's like being made out of Legos.

Games story was crap, as expected. RE games aren't exactly known for being original these days, but seeing Capcom just recycle RE4 for...what the 3rd time now? Is just depressing. Yeah the twist with Ethan was nice and gave him some depth, but so much of the game is rinse and repeat from re4 it just made me sad. A lot of the villains were just bland and I think Miranda is the most boring antagonist the series has ever had.

Lady Lebron James wasn't anything special either. I dont know who in the dev team saw "tetsuo: The Iron man" and started taking notes for Heisenberg, but it really makes me realize that theres no hope for this series to ever be good again.

They've gone back to getting more stuff wrong than right in the survival horror aspects of the game, have nothing but boring antagonists who lack anything really interesting to them, the settings and files in the game lack character and tone and they just seem to be out of ideas.

Whole game felt like a knock off of Silent hill 1, if you mixed in Tetsuo: The Iron Man, added werewolf monsters, and added in some basic RE themes and action tropes

Someone, please, for the love of god kill this series off or call it something else. It's barely a shadow of its former self.

You're definitely the outlier. Everywhere else I looked is near universal praise.

While I'd love more of a return to the type of game REmake was, this is definitely a step forward and improvement over VII.

Now what are they going to do with the Roman numeral IX?
PhoenIX? HelIX? BIX nood?

Ethan gets brutally killed at the beginning instead of Mia, and the one who does it is one of the random daughters of Big Lady by slowly cutting him to pieces. Then halfway through the game you switch to her perspective and find out she’s just a helpless lesbian living happily in the Village but Eveline from 7 was her daughter and don’t you feel bad for killing a defenseless mind-controlling little girl that’s been trying to kill you that whole game?

Oh, and the lycans call out the name of their closest loved one as they die and then you hear them cry about each death later.

Are Mercenaries unlocks and ng+ goodies tied to save slots or are the unlocked for the game itself? I just ended up restarting on normal after getting too annoyed with the opening segment. It’s also always good to see the old Browning 1897.

It's usually tied to whatever account is playing the game, so if on your account you unlocked whatever it would be there.
