RE8 doesn’t sit well with me. Maybe it’s because I’m too much of a lorefag and we’ve long since left what good writing RE had to offer, but the whole “lol it’s all mold, also Spencer was inspired by this” reveal felt super cheap and uninventive.

Imagine if they really ran with the concept, and we had moldy werewolves and spore vampires instead of just regular Lycans and fly vampires. I think enemy variety is a huge step up from 7, but in terms of story it’s a massive step down. I’d even say 6 had a better story. That’s just how bad I think 8’s plot is. But, that’s probably just me; and if I did have to choose between gameplay and story, I’d pick gameplay every time.

Really RE needs to completely leave Umbrella and the Mold behind. Those stories are done. It’s time for a new big bad company that isn’t destroyed in a single game.
There is the Connections that was mentioned in 7 and the group that worked for Wesker back in Code Veronica but then again, we also got the Wesker children which had no relevance beyond Wesker save for that one antagonist from Revelations 2 and "The Family" that was mentioned in 6. Won't be surprised if Capcom just decides to make a new villain while not bothering with what what they already got for a big bad guy.

Nobody ever brings up the "Family" from RE6, I've noticed. Point being that there's one too many "secret society" groups established in RE lore at this point.

Beat 8 last night. GOTY, pretty cool, all the other positives labels you can give it.

Went off the rails at the end and enjoyed it. RE4 on crack, not complaining. Neat story, interested in seeing where it'll go from here.

Honestly, I'd probably do a story about a charity foundation carrying on Wesker's Will through vaccines by using third world countries as test subjects.

Whatever the politics of real life bullshit, the idea is a fun concept to explore given how little regulation and regard third world countries tend to have for their people. I mean, India keeps signing up for this shit without really telling their citizens why or giving them informed consent. Although, I suppose we can't have that given the outcry RE5 had even before the industry became a bunch of pussies.

There is a fuckload of interesting stories on how the third world/Africa wind up acquiring a shitload of pharmaceutical overstock and essentially hand out medicine like candy and the people selling it are basically on par with a 7-11 clerk and not an actual doctor. We now have strains that are resistant to antibiotics that only exist in the third world and the only reason it's currently staying there is due to them having no widespread transportation systems.

Basically there's more widespread drug use there than a shithole like Los Angeles because everything is dirt cheap, some of these pills can run a few hundred bucks in western countries, but the company usually has to dump them in the third world for mere pennies. And it extends to shit like pills for psychiatric conditions.

There's just so much untapped potential with this scenario.

The Man-eaters of Tsavo were two lions that got the taste of human flesh from dead slaves that were dumped off from Arab Slave traders and terrorized the british who were building railways.

You could slap some umbrella strain onto this and you'll have a good resident evil with animal zombies.

There's loads of illegal and horrendous shit that goes on in Africa that would make a cool setting. Slavery is still around and it's just a boatride from Libya which gets you to Italy. And these are massive slave markets.

Someone already mentioned this way back in the thread, but Chris is way more capable as a soldier and interesting as a character in this game.

I never really liked Chris in this whole series. He started off as the generic good guy and never really deviated from that. Which is actually fine if the story of the game is "SPOOKY MANSION, MUST ESCAPE." But if you're going to tell an ongoing story (which was a mistake for this series) then you need a more compelling character.

This is the first time I've liked Chris since RE1. I never liked the dumb meathead character that he was all through the series, but RE8 actually made him into a real player in the events of the game. When he comes rocking up with his squad near the end of the game, shit really does get real.

I have my issues with RE7 and RE8, but this studio has taken some really bold directions that have paid off well. If I were to relate Resident Evil to Batman, then I'd say we're in the Nolan era of the series, after seeing Schumacher and Burton.

So we're gonna have to deal with RE9 being The Dark Knight Rises. Good to know.

Implementing a bunch of the Resident Evil 3.5 stuff that never came to fruition into this was pretty cool. Like all the Hookman stuff.

Finally got the chance to finish the game, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Excited to dive into Mercenaries.

That said, I don't think the team has nailed down FPS combat yet. It's really easy to backpedal and sidestep away from most enemies in the game, compared to RE4 where you will just get clobbered if you let enemies near you. This seems like a concession for the cramped level design. I am not a genius game designer so I can't dictate what the precise balance of space to maneuver versus enemy reach is, but letting the player clown on enemies by making them ineffectually flail around is far from an ideal state of affairs.

Dunno if this been posted before
I believe this is a leftover from the original ending where Rose sees Ethan. Some people argued he is just a reused asset but why bother including this scene at all?
