Ethan nooooo.

Her daughters are literally hoards of bugs that took on the form of three dead women while the tall mommy vampire herself literally kills people. Anyone thinking "Ethan bad" because of fighting them really needs to reconsider how these characters are if they really think there's any redeeming qualities to them that doesn't make them evil.
They base it around the way Lady D reacts to them getting killed by ethan

As far as I know the bugs are just trying to imitate human emotion and patterns. I don’t know how anyone could feel bad for the daughters, they’re creepy as fuck.

RE doean't have charming bad guys, as a rule. The counter-example is Wesker, but he was a bit too Marty Stu for my money.

Lady D is refreshing in that respect.
William Birkin, Marcus, Irons, Alfred Ashford, Alexia Ashford, Mylene Beardsley, Vincent Goldman, Saddler, Krauser, Salazar, Excella Gionne, Nikolai, Svetlana Belikova, Alex Whesker, fake Ada, that guy from Vendetta, the Bakers

While I’m still on the subject of 4, what’s everyone’s preferred pistol aside from the Red9...?
There are other pistol than the Red 9?

Semi-serious answer: The Matilda isn't bad, but that's a post game gun and will burn thru ammo fast. If you're just wanting to dick around and want to pop heads, the starting handgun, fully upgraded, has IIRC a 5x higher chance to explode enemy heads.

I finally beat it.

I have a few complaints, chief among them is on PC I experienced a glitch where the game deleted all my save data and even downloading them from the Steam cloud it didn't read them, forcing me to start over.

So that was annoying, I have a few other small complaints but for the most part that was a hell of a ride and I had a blast, I've been a Capcom fan for almost 20 years now, ever since I played Devil May Cry in 2001 and a Resident Evil fan since playing REmake, while there's been some ups and downs it's been a wild 20 years and I'm really looking forward to Capcom's future.

2 moments in RE8 made me want to leap out my seat and holler, the first was when you see a panorama of the village, I've been waiting a long for Capcom to return to the "gothic aesthetic" their games used to so often have and that reveal was such a great moment, it was like "fuck yeah, gothic Capcom is back, baby!"

The second was one thing that also really caught me off guard was playing as Chris Redfield again and blowing away the fuck out of the werewolves, fucking awesome!

And one moment really scared the shit out of me, the encounter with Angie and her dolls, a game hasn't scared me this bad in years, I was shocked at how much my adrenaline was pumping, having a phobia of creepy old dolls that moment really played on that to great effect.

And the ending and the implication for where the story may go from here are wild, Rose is grown up? Is it supposed to be the future? How old is Chris now? Is it me or does it feel like they're going to reuse the original idea for RE4, which became Devil May Cry, where a superpowered character named Tony is the protagonist? Put Rose Winters in a skintight suit ala Jill in RE5 and have her kick some monster ass like she's Dante, hell fucking yeah!

But seriously, so Spencer got the Umbrella logo from the village, but where does the logo originate? Does it have something to do with The Connections? How deep does the rabbit hole go? Just what the hell is going on?

Wherever the series goes from here I hope they stick with the gothic aesthetic, it simply what fits RE the best, gimme more creepy old castles, Capcom!

Apologies for the double post.

Fucking lol.

Is there anything or anyone who can stop this man? He’s simply too chad to exist
It's funny to imagine Ethan as once just being a totally average dude that knew nothing about the true nature of the world he lived in prior to the events of 7.

The dude's got to be in perpetual "WTF?" mode in 8 given all the crazy stuff he sees.

Video games!

Probably the best RE engine game so far but definitely not the best RE game. I don’t think capcom will ever make something that comes close to REmake ever again.

My ranking now would probably be
REmake>2>4>1>3>8>RE2make>6>7>RE3make>5
Haven’t played CVX in like 9 years so I can’t really rank that right now.
REmake is still the gold standard.

I do still prefer the classic RE formula and I just don't understand why it's something that has been abandoned entirely, but RE8 is still far better than 5 and 6.

I genuinely thought the big twist was going to be that Miranda was Alex Wesker's Plan B.
What did ever happened to that plot thread? I want to say that I heard a rumor she was going to appear in 8, but nope.

In fairness she's probably best saved for Revelations 3 and ideally they'd bring Dai Sato back to write it.

There is already a theory that The Duke Is the 5th Lord because of concept art and the symbol you see in his horse cart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJfGJTL3A08
My theory is that the Duke is part of some other secret society, he must get around if it's implied he knows the Merchant from RE4, who could be part of the same secret society.

I read something earlier that said there were no plans for any DLC at the moment, obviously that is something that could change but with how Capcom handled that for RE3 that means they could just be looking to REverse as the future for support.
One of my complaints is I don't think we got to see enough of the castle, a side story DLC centered around the castle with expanded, never before seen areas would be cool, it could be about one of Lady Dimitrescu's servants trying to escape.

I just finished Village yesterday and feel the same way about that game, to be honest. Every zone was trying to bring a different kind of horror and as soon as I'd adjusted to the new area it was already gone. Overall I think the Factory was my favourite area in Village, I'm a big fan of the rusted, unsafe, loud and dangerous industrial areas like the Disposal Facility in RE3 and the trains that run from the Nest facility in the original RE2 and Outbreak

It might be genuine autism but I didn't really feel like I was playing an RE game until the last factory area of Village, otherwise the game felt like a weird mesh of Alien: Isolation, Silent Hill, F.E.A.R and Outlast.
The Castle is devoid of serious enemies and you just run and evade the daughters/Lady Dimitrescu, very much an Alien: Isolation feeling but without the panic, despite the similarity to the REmake2 Mr. X mechanics it just didn't get me stressed in the same way, I was more often than not just annoyed that I was stuck in a corridor and needed to wait for her to grab me and toss me over her shoulder to free me.
The House was probably the most panic inducing part of the game for me that's only because they took my weapons away and made me feel defenceless, like how Outlast only gives you a camera and nothing else to defend yourself.
By the time I got to The Reservoir I was kitted out like fucking John Matrix on his way to rescue his daughter and walked through their with enough explosives to level the village myself, I can't even say that part was any kind of horror or panic inducing.

The Factory was good old endgame Resident Evil stuff to me, had a great time, felt like someone had been watching Tetsuo: The Iron Man and Cyber City Oedo.
Then there was the Chris stuff and the final boss fight. Honestly, it felt like F.E.A.R but without the fun gunplay and slow-mo.
Overall, 5/10. The story is whatever it is and the gameplay is fine if a bit slower than I'd like, the side-missions/treasure hunting/actual hunting are just things to pass the time and give you something to do while you traipse through one end of town to the next.
Oh and final complaint for the bonus autism point: The game gives you so much ammo that you might have to leave it on the ground unless you've upgraded your bags, I prefer the older system of having to scrape by with as little ammo as possible and putting one or two rounds into enemy legs to let me run past them. The older games punished you for killing every zombie you see, Village encourages it. I can't talk too much shit about that mechanic, though, because I suppose that's been the way of things since RE4 now and I still like 4.
None of my friends have played it and they probably won't so that means you guys have to listen to my shitty review of this game.
The Factory is a lot of fun, way better than the final boat are in RE7.

Heisenberg is so based, such a likable villain, which applies to most of the villains in the game.

I too got heavy Tetsuo: The Iron Man vibes from his creations, in particular Tetsuo II: Body Hammer.

They're hot, tho. :tomgirl:

D's just dumpy and tall. Her daughters are the cute ones, of course you'd feel bad killing them.

There's an old Japanese website I got linked somewhere that has all kinds of female replacements for Leon in REvil 4; Claire, Rebecca, Jill, Sherry, Moira, even Manuela Hidalgo for some reason. Is that something you'd be interested in?

oh, I'm aware of 3getu841, big fan of his work.
I just liked that Claire mod because she looks closer to her DSC renders. I always found the in-game model weird, they don't even look like the same person

Ah, I see, I see. I actually just recently went back to that site for the first time in years; Village made me want to replay 4 again, go figure.

Do you happen to know if there are any good Rebecca mods for 5 or 6 currently? Preferably ones that replace Chris/Leon/Jake etc, rather than Sheva and Sherry?

Check RE modding boards, it's a pretty good source.
Nexus mods has trainers for RE5 and 6, so you can swap models with these.

About damn time somebody tried their hand in making mechanical body horror nowadays. Tetsuo is THE stuff to look for inspiration on if you want body horror with a machine twist.

Hell, I'll say it now, Heisenberg should have been the main antagonist, and we shoulda fought more of his fucked up creations. I want more cyber zombies and weird mechanical shit please!
