Capcom apparently used photographs from a 1996 photo references book for the game textures and the author is suing

I mean... This WAS meant to be a reference book. If somebody recreated a pattern based on her photos, would be they violating copyright as well? Also while Capcom didn't ask her permission, they also didn't steal any of her high quality images and merely used those ripped from the disc (low quality).
Just asking if she really have a case here (unless she can copyright a floor?).

Wait wait wait wasn’t there a RE4 hd texture project and they used the images from this book and not Capcom? Reason being the screenshots of the game’s textures are way too clear to see. RE4 never had that texture quality in original Format by a Long Shot.
Edit: I’m dumb for not reading further than the opening.
Well Capcom let’s see that money going places.

I still need to play RE3. I never got around to it because physical copies are jumping in price and I'm not much of an emulation guy. It's on the PSN for pretty cheap though so I think I'll get it on there.

So I guess for me it's gonna come down to either 1 or 2 and I don't know what to go with. 2's got way more polish and far better production values, but I like 1's location and overall level design a little more. I think it depends on my mood. If I want a more quiet, lowkey game I'll go with 1 and if I want a more Dawn of the Dead-esque experience I go with 2.

EDIT: dammit I forgot about REmake 1. I guess I had just the PS1 games on the mind. That one's my favorite by a landslide.

Question for all the hardcore Resident Evil fans, which one of the old "Classic Resident Evil" games is your favorite?

Mine is probably RE3 with RE2 in an extremely close second.
RE3 followed closely by Outbreak. As I've said before, the urban setting, where something so familiar and tame is turned into a shambling nightmare is where the series shines the brightest at.

I remember being kind of disappointed with RE2. Running though the streets and coming to the precinct: "Huh I wonder how long I'm going to be here until I have to go back out and explore" and then never leaving left me feeling a bit cheated.

so "Julie" is apparently a teenager who just graduated high school and...welp, I honestly don't like bullying kids.
Seems like another victim of woke parenting and tumblr cult.
No, Julie, you're not a lesbian, you're a boy, it's normal for boys to like girls, please stop taking those hormones, I thought you hit your 30s already...

I find it very weird that someone with a tranflag would also retweet ColdOnes, does she(?) not know the history of Anything4Views and MaxMoefoe?

Speaking of genetic monstrosities do you think RE would benefit from adopting a more Cronenberg style of monster going forward? I like the original zombies, dogs, spiders, tyrants etc but I've not seen a monster design in an RE design that I've liked since RE4.

I love the 1.5 design of G-Birkin

Speaking of 1.5, notice how this looks like Uroboros?

I’d say there’s been monster designs I’ve liked after RE4. The revenants were pretty good.
I like the revenants but aren't they just Iron Maidens from RE4?

Definitely see Uroboros , yeah, there's also some similarity to classic Godzilla concept art and movie posters in the 1.5 art.

I’d say RE3 as well. It’s the only one of the originals that’s superior to the remake imo.
My vote goes to RE3, as well.

These games are more padded than an asylum. I hate having to juggle keys or backtrack to unlock doors. Leave that to Silent Hill.

RE3 is fun for the same reason Dino Crisis 2 is fun: increased focus on action. Your brain focuses on dodging, rationing ammo for Nemesis, and crafting better weapons. Catherine Disher (Forever Knight) provided one of the better Jill performances. She did an interview with Crimson-Head podcast; you might want to seek that one out.

This was probably purely a fan rumor, but there was a rumor that RE4 would have you play as an Umbrella employee, possibly HUNK himself.
Im surprised Hunk hasn't been used more. Aside from his one part in RE2 He barely has any relevance in the lore afterwards. He stayed on with umbrella up till code veronica at least and then become a big boss style mercenary I think.

This neat little doom mod, is the closest he's ever been to getting his own game.

Remember being really excited for RE7's ending because I legit thought redfield was hunk. Still think they should have gone with that twist, it would have been interesting if silly.

And now I want a crossover where Doomguy invades Raccoon City during another outbreak where Umbrella tapped into the satanic to force their research forward and just wrecks shit and you have to avoid him - not that he'll kill you, but narratively you're shitting your pants - and the zombies until the finale where you realize he's not a rogue zombie, but just a very angry man. Then you help him punch the final boss so hard he tears asunder reality to enter his world again and you just stand there thinking, "Did this happen?" among a pile of corpses and destruction.

It's not too late to do a spinoff game from Umbrella's side*, because one weird omission in this series is we've never seen Umbrella's actual HQ corporate building in Racoon City, we've only ever seen their secret labs, what did their main office building look like?

Hell, is there any reason they can't reuse Spencer castle as a setting? It was only glimpsed in a cutscene in 5, right? Despite initially being the entire setting of 4, a lot of wasted potential there.

I remember that rumor that the "Chris" we saw at the end of 7 was HUNK, but that's only because Capcom fucked up Chris's face, they honestly need to patch 7 with 8's Chris lol.

*Umbrellas Corps does not count.

Operation raccoon city really was the closest we've been to a legit umbrella game.

Did anybody notice a change in personality between RE2 and the remake? I heard he was more slightly more compassionate towards his men. Although I haven't finished it just yet. I just like the idea of him being the "master chief" of Umbrella.

The "Not a hero" dlc was delayed so long past the due date, I wondered if they changed him to Chris after everyone guessed it was Hunk. The face was such a close enough facsimile it could have worked.

I was really kinda hoping they would do it too.

(Outbreak's unreleased model looks way different, but its not canon.)

Capcom is weird about giving Hunk his own game. It must be one of those bizarro Japanese business culture things where the customer wants thing but the company just refuses to do it for reasons. Just like Final Fantasy 7 remake, no one wanted a FF 7 sequel, they just wanted the same game with updated visuals and improvements to gameplay issues. Or, Capcom not releasing Monster Hunter on consoles and PC until very recently. Or an MMO Pokemon game. Etcetera and etcetera.

The closest we got to a Hunk game was Operation Raccoon City and Umbrella Corps (shudder).

Man, I really need to play this game. I am disappointed that I have never actually played it and yet, it looks pretty good (Gameplays). I just don't know which one I should play first.

I wonder if it was really supposed to be Hunk in RE7, would have been cool, but I find it way more likely that Capcom simply fucked up Chris's face, it was the same awkward period where they were still learning how to do faces in the RE engine, same deal with the weird faces of Leon and Claire in RE2 Remake.

The Japanese, as much as I love them, can be weirdly anal and obstinate in really weird ways sometimes.

When they get it in their head that something has got to be done only one way or something simply can't be done, that's it, they just won't do it no matter how much it would make sense.

I've always been interested in a lot of the concepts in Resident Evil 1.5 in general.
Elza Walker is a really cool and sexy design, but from what I've seen of 1.5 Racoon City and the police station didn't have a "gothic" enough vibe, everything looked more modern and too generic, I can see why they changed gears to give everything more of a unique personality.

However it would be cool to be able to play it just to see what it would have been like.

What I've always been way, way more interested in are the two early versions of RE4, the "fog" and "hookman" ones, I can't complain too much because the changing of RE4 lead to us getting Haunting Ground and I wouldn't want to trade that game, from what I also remember RE4 was originally supposed to be the end of the series and despite it's ups and down I'm glad it kept going, but it's the kind of thing where I would absolutely love to be able to slip into an alternate universe and see what those would have been like had they been completed.

Hell, I'm of the mind that's what the upcoming RE4 remake should be, the remake continuity should be seen as it's own separate timeline and RE4 should be a "what if" showing us to see what the original game would have been like instead of a retelling of the Las Plagas story, of course we know that probably won't happen, but hell, couldn't that still work as some "what if?" spinoff?

From what I understand with RE2 and RE3 Remake you can't necessarily consider them "canon" with the mainline series as there's some contradictions, so why not use that as an opportunity to retell the final showdown with Umbrella and Wesker?
