I'm playing RE4 again.
I'm noticing how hard it would be to remake it in the style of REmake & co. There's just too many guns, too many chapters, too many spy gadgets, too many enemies, and too many cumbersome items. Along with the Merchant who, like the Duke, can only be rationalized as some sort of deity, which fans are unhappy about.

Speaking of lore,
where is it? Sure, it introduces las plagas, but it doesn't further the overall story. Wesker and Ada are involved with New Umbrella, but they dissolve their ties by the next game.
Everybody knows how RE4 is several projects sandwiched into one. I have a feeling (though I can't prove it) that the village was designed last. Certain areas, like Chapter 2-3, look haphazard and almost prehistoric in design. Yes, this is a medieval village which in unstuck in time; but some areas look like a steampunk refinery while others look like Jamestown. The castle and the island have a better sense of continuity.
Last, and this is a really minor point, would it kill them to add a stock on the cobalt shotgun when Leon upgrades its capacity? This speaks more to my autism than the game's flaws, but it takes me right out of the action when Leon loads two shells into a gun which carries five. If I had any talent as a modder, that'd be the first thing I'd fix.
