Retro games and emulation - Discuss retro shit in case you're stuck in the past or a hipster

The Sega Genesis version of Shadowrun has yet to be surpassed. I've spent countless hours completing many playthroughs over the years, both on the original system, and through an emulator on my PC.

I wish like hell that we could get a modern, AAA-caliber SR game, (ideally very similar to Cyberpunk2077) but I don't think it will ever happen.

n64 emulation is such a mess that someone jumped straight to making a recompiler for N64 games to skip straight to potential PC ports
This is beyond hype, I have always found N64 emulators to be shit at worst and okay at best and being able to play any of my fav games without the jank that comes from this emulators is a game changer

I was about to post this one too. This is amazing, I hope it doesn't go silent like most of those decompilation port projects.
I also hope this spirit extends to other consoles too, such as PlayStation and PlayStation 2.
Also, this was born out of desperation due to how bad the n64 emulation is.
Beat me to it you cheeky fucker. Was/is GC emulation gimped in a similar way? Or would Dolphin be superior to something like this? It just has me giddy for TP on PC.
Dolphin is still considered, in tier lists-type of talking, the God Tier of emulation.
I was also taking about how Duckstation isn't exactly the greatest emulator due to it's lack of plugins, which alone rule out possibilities for TAS or other stuff, when some retard came around telling me that "just because it's open source, it doesn't mean i should be able to modify it." with this mindset, it's no wonder the OSS scene is such a pozzed shitshow. Truly, the glowies' finest hour

This MM port is still in its early stages in terms of features but it already includes a lot of quality of life tweaks like equipping items (transformation masks and ocarina by default) to the Dpad and an optional autosave. Even though it's one of my favorite games I do wish they focused on another N64 game first, considering the fact that MM already has a decomp project at its final stretch with its own Ship of Harkinian-esque PC port on the horizon. Banjo-Tooie is the other one that's a work in progress but it runs great on Xenia, even if it would still be great to see a real port of one day.

I already mentioned how I wanted to see a Star Fox 64 port, but there's a couple others that'd be great like the Mario Party games. It'd be amazing to see the minigames and boards from 1 and 2 ported into 3 with all of that game's features

Played an hour of MM with the recompiler and holy shit I'm never going back to N64 emulation ever again. It literally just werks.
I seem to have hit a snag trying to comple the N64 Recompiler because i want to try other games with it.

cmake is telling me "config.cpp" doesn't exist in the src folder even though it does, so idk what thats about.
Any advice on how to actually use this thing once it's compiled? These sorts of devs always have a crippling fear of documentation and precompiled binaries.

Even for fully compiled things... I tried RetroBat for the first time today and had to google how to point it to my rom-directories.

Nope,

Then in another

Admin: "Don't do that."

Then I had to google how to uninstall it.

The fucking mandatory intro was annoying as fuck as was the thumping shit-techno it pumped out while in the GUI. Whoever recommended this piece of shit should have their hands chopped off. It's somehow more annoying than RetroArch.

RetroBat has the single most pretentious devs for anything I've seen in my entire life. They constantly go out of their way to be as insufferable as possible, and don't you dare imply that any bug or questionable design choice isn't completely your own fault. If you want to hate the very idea of online communities, just look at their Discord. It's not even just one or two outspoken devs either, the entire team is like this.

But as the guy who constantly shills it on the farms, I can vouch for the program itself being heavily customizable. Open retrobat.ini and set EnableIntro to 0 to skip the intros (or replace them with your own if you really want). Download a better theme from the built-in menu and either replace it with your own music in \emulationstation\.emulationstation\music or just disable it. Use symlinks to point the rom directories to your actual folders (Link Shell Extension makes this easy if you don't have it already, and it's a useful program to have in general).

While this emulator is impressive as shit and should put nintendo to shame that an autist made a better emulator than they could. How much is everyone betting on this guy near'ing out.

Is there a reason why this can't work on more obscure consoles/systems? Like if it worked on old Mac software that'd be great but those games had all sorts of weird code. There's some work in that direction like Pomme but in general computers are more complicated because of a variety of configurations and external code.

One wonders why there's no such equivalent for Saturn...

The answer is always autism.

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask tickle the tism more than anything on the Saturn. They're "classic."
To be fair, I would have expected someone like the fighting game autists to work on something similar for the saturn since it was the 2D fighter machine to have. Not only are the home versions better than the arcade ones (Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Darkstalkers 3 being the big two examples since they have more characters), but there's other fighters on the saturn that either nobody has played before (Outlaws of The Lost Dynasty a.k.a. Dark Legend) or are EXCLUSIVELY for the Saturn (Final Fight Revenge, Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers), and FBNeo can't play those since it can't do the Sega ST-V board.

Instead, everyone on FightCade2 is focusing their efforts on PS1 compatibility, because "muh Tekken"

N64 is leagues more popular than Saturn, and much more research exists for N64 hardware, especially thanks to the Mario 64 and Zelda decomps providing insight into how these sorts of ports can be possible in the first place. It's really not complicated.

Two Dollars is correct, which is why I mentioned the word "classic."

You're right, but PS1 was leagues more popular in the West than Saturn ever was, so Saturn doesn't get that fixation. You won't get parasocial validation to the extent you would if you do something for the Saturn compared to PS1.

See also, all the work on Earthbound.

been replaying Super Mario Galaxy on Dolphin with the HD texture pack, Dolphinbar and a real Wiimote and Nunchuk. much like with what the person said about Majora's Mask and the recompiler, it just werks. Makes Mario 3D All-Stars feel like even more of a fucking rip-off now that I know how easy it is to get essentially the exact same experience for completely free.

As well as Wii games ever worked, at least. I'm still pissed at those red and blue floors in Galaxy 2 all these years later - mapping something that insta-kills you if the motion controller doesn't register your shake correctly with split-second timing was such bullshit.

No one has made a clean-room decomp of EarthBound or other games in the series, which is weird given the autism in the community, and especially the game's faults, notably how when you have two or more things following Ness (Paula, Jeff, teddy bear) and lots of enemies on screen it will dramatically slow down.

Lmao what? I thought everyone was pleased to see the back of plugins, because they only made sense in the days before VCSs like Git became popular.

Yeah I tried to get it to work myself but I'm not good at this sort of thing. Once it's rolling I really want to give Star Fox 64 a spin, I'm used to its measly 15fps but it can be so much more. The 3DS remake is pretty good but emulating that game is utter dogshit
120 FPS, HD textures, and full flightstick support.

I am on a PS3 mood. Does anyone knowns about a good guide on how to jailbreak an original model PS3 and a Slim one?
